Push it! I am sick, sick, sick.

Wednesday, April 02, 2008

I feel like I'm dying. Okay, maybe that's a little melodramatic, but yesterday afternoon my throat started hurting a little. I thought it was just normal with the weather fluctuations (we're supposed to get some showers this week), and went on my merry way to work out.

I weighed myself and found that I lost 4 lbs from the week previous! (A pound or two came from me taking off my gym card lanyard that had my car keys on it - HAH!) I'm officially at 30+ lbs lost! Woo hoo!

Okay, so, energized, I boosted my TreadClimber work out with some additional intensity and the machine read 275 cal after 15 mins (plus 2 mins cool down). My face was lobster red, and my neck was sore (I was swinging it around to my music a little too much, I thought), and my throat still hurt and was swollen. I took NyQuil and Tylenol PM last night.

This morning NOT ONLY do I have an official sore, swollen throat (and glands), but I started my cycle. GEEZ!

Today I'm still going to walk 1 mile at 3:00, but then I'm going to rest at home instead of going to the gym after work. I need to pay closer attention to the clues my body sends me. PLUS, I can NOT be sick this weekend. My nephew has his 5th birthday, and a couple of my friends have theirs... It's so packed that I already have vacation scheduled for Monday. I don't want to spend it sick.

AHHH the sore throat! Whenever that happens to me I go into protection overdrive! Being sick blows.
Congrats on the 30lbs! You are sooo hardcore! I'm in awe!
Is anyone out there doing this with you, or are you going at it solo?

You may want to take a day off. I had the same symptoms (sore throat) on Monday. I took the day off and rested and ate light. Mostly liquidy soft food, took OTC meds and slept! The next day I felt so much better. Still tad bit sore but mostly just a cough. I pushed myself that day to do a little treadmill and again today. I'm working it out of my system.

I am one of those people that dont' get sick very often too.
Take it easy...my 2 cents. One day won't kill you!

Be a fish! Drink more water! A How To:

Wednesday, March 26, 2008

I drink more water when I have some near me. Plus, if I can refill a novelty bottle, I drink even more. I just got this Icelandic Glacial Spring Water (33.8 fl oz!!!). It's tall enough to hold a lot at once, yet slim for my tiny bitty hands (they're small), and the opening is petite, like a smaller water bottle.

This is the biggest bottle I've had so far! I was using Aquafina's 20 oz mostly, and then just last week I purchased a bottle shaped like a flask (in honor of St. Patrick's Day), called "Liquid Salvation". That one was fun. I went to a birthday/St. Patrick's Day party last Friday and kept refilling the flask with water. I ran around saying that I was drinking IRISH WATER. It was fun, plus I got less crap from my friends for not drinking alcohol. (Half of them thought it was filled with booze anyway.)

Okay, so does anyone else do this, or am I just a freak?

(Oh, remember, if you want to try it out, or refill any water bottle: Most plastics used for water bottles start to break down after awhile. It's probably not safe to refill the same bottle for more than a week or two. But it's great for recycling!)

I love drinking water so that's not a biggie. I am trying to cut down on the Diet Coke. We'll see how that goes. I average 1 a day at work but at home maybe 2 or more.

I recently bought the new water bottles that have the center that you put in the freezer, so you can then have it cold without trying to jam square ice cubes into it. I hate plain water, since I grew up on a farm that had a spring fed deep well and that water was great. We used the cistern water to baths and that is what tastes like city water to me. We never drank it, because it ran off the house roof and wasn't for drinking.
I drink GREEN TEA when it is cold weather, as I like it warm. It reminds me of eating at the Japanese restaurant where they bring the tiny cups and tea pot with the Green Tea. Otherwise, I put LEMON in my water, or LIME Juice. I go to Walmart and buy their GREAT VALUE brand, which is the exact same brand as the "Real Lemon" but about 1/2 the cost. I know Walmart's GREAT VALUE Brand is all first rate, because when the Peanut Butter was recalled, they announced on the news "SKIPPY PEANUT BUTTER and GREAT VALUE" were taken off the shelf because the factory had contamination.

I used to be one who thought it silly for people to buy drinking water in bottles instead of using the tap at home! But I found a water that I really TASTED a difference in, and love it. Target's brand, Archer Farms plain water......I love it. And the nearest Target for me, is an hour/15 mins. drive! And I think whatever motivates a person....if it's that brand of water...a funky cool container....cute straws........cool colors.......I'm all for it! We only live once....if all it takes to make me happy is a cute glass or lime green straw then that's a small price to pay!! lol

I definitely drink more if I have it within reach! I used to refill water bottles but read so much bad stuff about it that I stopped. I am not convinced it is all that bad to do that though. We have a water dispenser on our refridge so I figure just refill a glass.

What I do that is sort-of along the same lines as you. I have to have a "pretty glass" (colorful) with a bendie straw. Somehow it feels more glamorous. Kudos to you for resisting the alcohol when out with friends. I haven't mastered that one yet. (probably because i don't want to) but I have cut back a LOT since being on sparks!

I have an Aquafina 1 liter bottle that I refill at least twice a day while I'm at work. I won't let myself leave for the day until I've drank it up twice. So I've DEFINITELY got my 8 cups of water in before I even get home for the evening. Everything after that is then just a bonus!! Plus with a big bottle like that, it has a big opening for my big mouth, AND I don't have to go running to fill up as often just because during the work day I don't have much time for that. I just never thought about telling anybody else to do it that way. WTG!!

Ooh, disappointment.

Tuesday, March 25, 2008

So, this week instead of again dropping far more weight than I expected, I gained 1 pound. I'm sure part of the difference is because I (mistakenly) weighed myself after working out the previous time. Then I read an article about that today, and made sure I did it BEFORE my cardio.

Even though I knew that I needed to lose weight more slowly (I don't want baggy skin.. blehck.), I was still disappointed.

So--it's time to focus on OTHER goals. (This is not a cop out.) Here's my plan. I will think more about my goals and post them later.

-I will weigh myself in 1 month, instead of this crazy every week deal.

-When I do, I will expect little change, but instead look for change in my measurements, strength and flexibility.

-I will work on extending my cardio sessions. I'll shoot for 10 minutes on the treadclimber each day this week and focus on getting stronger.

-And, maybe this coming weekend I'll actually plan what I'll eat and fit some aerobic exercise in.

    Remember a couple things....
*weigh yourself right when you get up and go potty.
*if your increasing your workout....you need to increase your food...not alot but maybe 50-200 calories depending on how much you are going to increase your workout. Your body needs the energy and if your not feeding it to workout its going to store things. Trust me on this one.
*MEASURE MEASURE MEASURE...don't just rely on the scale.
*EAT YOUR PROTEIN......this helps with your muscles too.
*WATCH the salt.
*drink 1/2 your body weight in water. I can drink 120-150 a day. You may pee alot but think of all the bad things leaving your body.
*Don't get yourself down. Everyone gets to a point like this and it won't be the last. Your body needs to adjust and maybe that's what point your at. Keep doing what your doing and soon your body will just say "ok fine I will drop the lbs.".

Hang in there!! You can do this!

Don't be disappointed. You are doing GREAT. I am at a standstill myself. Since my cruise, my body has been uncooperative. But we will beat this! Hang in there and don't worry. You are already beautiful...inside and out.

I was always told to weight yourself in the AM after you've done all your business etc and before you get into the shower. This will be when you are at your true weight...I refuse to weigh myself weekly due to the disappointment. I also hate how some scales can fluxuate, so always use the same scale if you're going to track your progress that way. I would def recommend tracking measurements VS weekly weight in general. There are always those water weight days that could make you think that you've set yourself back and you really haven't. It sounds like you're doing great to me. Keep up the good work!!

Well, don't be too disappointed. What type of cardio are you doing?

Oh, I understand that disappointment all too well! And that is why I don't weigh myself at all. But that is what works for me, and it doesn't work for everyone.

I do measure, but just my hips & waist. I try on my "skinny" clothes. And I also measure my blood pressure.

Bagel Magic

Monday, March 24, 2008

How do you untoast a bagel?!
Step 1: Toss overtoasted bagel into a zip top baggy.
Step 2: Leave in fridge 2 to 3 days.
Step 3: Remove from baggy.

You'll have a soft and chewy ex-toasted bagel! TA-DAH! I'm glad I held onto the onion bagel that I burned Friday morning. The burned parts are more mild, plus I could pull them off if I really wanted to. I hate wasting food, so I'm happy. Geez, this makes me sound cheap.

(giggle)

Bellydancing for Wimps

Thursday, March 20, 2008

It's on its way today from Netflix! I'm hoping this will have some basic moves. It'll get me closer to my goal of taking a bellydancing class!

~WOOT WOOT!~

Yesterday I didn't go to the gym, but I did get my "goal" cardio minutes in elsewhere.

I'm having a hard time eating ENOUGH calories. I know I don't want to eat under my target nutrition, and I'm not trying to, but every day this week it's been that way. I WANT to make healthier choices. And I want to make it a habit. I'm eating more things, more frequently than ever before, and it's still under. The last thing that I want to do is add caloric intake to my new habits, and then get stuck when I need to trim them out. :S I might turn on the menu and just try to stick to that.

I have similar issues with not eating enough calories. I'm getting full and eating stuff i like and adding it up I'm below my target. I never would have guessed that would be possible.
