Well, thought it needed a catchy title.
So let's start on Saturday when it was lightly snowing (more like just blowing someone's dandruff around) and it was like 30 degrees out. I got all bundled up and jogged for 3 miles and even managed to average 13 min miles. Then I walked 1 more mile for good measure. Then I went home and defrosted.
Then on Sunday afternoon, it was perfect. Sunny, maybe 45 and just a lovely day. So I got all dressed and started out. Did my walk around the block to warm up and then off I went. Got about 1/3 of mile in and something stupid in the distance caught my eye. So I wasn't watching my feet. I tripped and fell over just a small bit of concret build-up on top of the pavement in an area I walk and jog every week for months now. I scared up my hands, knee and elbow. A passing car stopped to check on, since they had seen me fall. The passenger got out and helped me up. I was able to walk back home and start licking my wounds. The whole thing was so annoying. I really wanted to enjoy the weather yesterday, but instead I came home and was grouchy and whiny all night, though those that know me well, may say that sounds like most any given night.
Anyway, lots of work to do today at the office, but I wanted to post about my fun fun weekend. LOL!

So I thought I would outline my story all the new users to see... hope it will inspire just one person to keep using Sensa and work with it to change your life!

That is the pounds lost each month on Sensa... but that is only the half the story. Below I will outline the changes in my life as Sensa claimed me.
Month 1 - I choose to eat out less often, since I could go home for lunch. I chose to eat off smaller plates, drink my water, read food labels and try to serve myself "serving sizes.'
Month 2 - I choose to take the occasional very slow walk around my block with my children. Meaning very slow and very rare.
Month 3 - I choose to join the Sensa Forums and found the Fabs! I choose to join SparkPeople for food and activity tracking. I started trying to use my Wii Fit more to get a little cardio in on my lunch hour.
Month 4 - I was choosen as the 2nd Moderator for the Sensa Forums! I started noticing major changes in my eating habits. I even dropped milk from my daily breakfast routine, and I hadn't even been playing to do it. It just happened. I haven't dropped dairy altogether, I just don't drink milk much anymore, but still cook with it and eat plenty of cheese and other dairy items!
Month 5 - I started working out with my Wii regularly and got EA Active and started my first 30 Day Challenge (15-20 min workouts every other day). I didn't lose a lot of weight that month, but I lost inches. So please... always take measurements when you start working it out. You may not see your progress on the scale, but that doesn't mean progress isn't being made!
Month 6 - I started my 2nd 30 Day Challenge (20-25 min workouts every other day) on my Wii. I lost a little more weight and more inches. At the end of Month 6 I had won the Fabs Biggest Loser Contest! Thank you Sensa!!! 37.5 lbs lost in 6 months!
Month 7 - I was a little burnt out on my Wii and school started and life got really busy, so I just focused on my eating and such and still lost weight. Thank you Sensa!
Month 8 - I added walking to my life. My work place started a Step Challenge for 10,000 steps a day. I rarely could make 10k a day except on the weekends and even then it was hard. But I kept with it. I also took myself off anti-depressants sometime that month. I was only walking and eating and of course sprinkling Sensa. I also started the monthly Challenges with Deb from Georgia. We started with only working on our Cardio mins and used points to track our progress.
Month 9 - I added a new toy to my motivation tricks. My mother purchased the BodyBugg. You wear it on your arm and it gives you feedback as to how many calories you burn each day, how many steps you take and how active you are. You track your own food intake and can program your weight loss if you keep up with the tracking and are honest. What I found I really like about the Bugg, is just that each day when I plug it in, I can see exactly how hard I need to work to meet my goals. I don't meet them everyday, but even with not meeting them, I am still way more active than I was before. The 2nd Challenge consisted of keeping the Cardio and adding Water intake. We had a number of new members joining me and Deb this month. It was a lot of fun!
Month 10 - My Sensa/BodyBugg combo is hard to beat. I was walking a lot, but still having a little trouble meeting my burn and step goals. Since I work at a desk all day and have to get in most of my activity in the evenings after work, it is hard, but not impossible. For the 3rd Challenge, we added Fruit/Veggie servings to the mix and our little following grew. At this point, between work, family and my exercise time, I had to step down from being a Moderator for the Sensa forums. It was hard to do, but looking back, it was time for me. I am still here for anyone who needs me, but I had to give up being here officially to focus more on my goals.
Month 11 - The holdidays were here. I lost weight and gained some over the holidays. And even though I gained, I still lost overall for Month 11, so I couldn't complain. I also learned how easy it is to fall into bad habits again, just 1 week of unhealthly eating could undo almost a month's worth of weight lost. And I wasn't even eating unhealthy portions, I still used my Sensa faithfully, but the calorie/fat dense foods took their toll none the less. The 4th Challenge month we opted to keep the same as the previous month to help each of us over the holiday stay consitent with our new habits. I also started to notice that my walking was getting longer and longer and time was getting to be more of an issue. Being gone walking for 45-60 mins each night or every other night was a long time and it was darker and getting colder. So I decided to take some advice I had been given to try a Couch to 5 K (C25k) program. A nine week program where you go from not being able to jog/run for only 30-60 secs at a time - to 30 mins of jogging/running. I started this program the week of Thanksgiving.
Month 12 - A new year for a new me! I am not quite 2 weeks into a my 12th month on Sensa. I have been keeping up with my C25k program and last night I jogged for 28 mins. I only have 1.5 weeks of this program left and I will be able to jog for 30 mins. I won't be covering 5k in 30 mins, I am jogging way too slow for that, but I will build speed and endurance slowly as the year goes. I also found a new game for the Wii (Just Dance) that is making exercise fun... since it isn't an exercise program at all... techinically, but it is a workout! Hence my 2.5 lb loss this week. I rarely that lose that fast. So, here is to the new me and the new year and all the new and great things to come! I also am averaging over 9000 steps a day this year... way up from my 3000-5000 steps per day back when I started walking in Sept! Everything comes in its time.
I just wanted to show everyone my little story, so they could see I wasn't a success overnight and I wasn't doing anything extraordinary to get here. I was just improving little by little as the year went. I went from a size 24/26 to a 14/16 and lost roughly 70 inches too. But again, it hasn't happened overnight... it happens because I make it happen and I keep coming to the forums and my friends for support and encouragement. The fact that I have inspired others is inspriration back to me to keep going too. So that is my story and I am stickin to it!

Ok, so I am not a dancer or even a remotely decent dancer... and I have cheezy taste in music. I will listen to the Jonas Brothers and Hannah with my kids and not even bat an eyelash. But I love this new game for the Wii. It is called Just Dance. It has a ton of hits of different time periods... you know the songs, either you love them or hate them really. But that isn't the point at all. Put this game in and shake it all for all your worth in the privacy of your own home and watch the calories burn! I can prove this too...
New Year's Eve is when I met the game at a friend's house. I didn't really want to dance in front of anyone at first. So we let the kids play and it was hillarious fun to watch 4 - 7 year olds shake it and even funnier to watch my 2 yr old beat them at the game. It is a game. Up to 4 players can dance at one time, kinda like Karoke for dancing and/or line dancing. Just do the moves on the TV. Anyway... back to my proof. As you may know, I use the Body Bugg which can tell me how many calories and steps I take over the course of the day and it can tell me how many per each hour of the day. So I am going to lay out 2 different days for you and let you decide.
New Year's Eve
Party started 7:00pm
Before 7:00 I had burned roughly 2000 calories and reached 3500 steps. Not a great set of numbers really for my daily targets.
After 7:00-12 - I didn't start playing game till probably 9pm, since I mentioned we watched the kids, ate dinner, etc. But between 7-12 I burned another 1100 calories and almost 9000 steps! That is a lot!
Yesterday - 1/4/09
Regular work day for me, took Shellbee to Brownies, etc. At 8:00 I break out the game. Before I started, I plugged in the Body Bugg to get an idea what I needed to accomplish to reach my burn goals and step goals for the day. I was at 1900 calories roughly so far and 2800 steps for the day.
Between 8-10:30 roughly... I burned roughly 700 calories and over 6000 steps! Now I didn't Just Dance this whole time either. I did it probably a full hour out of that time frame and I got the kids ready for bed and few other mundane things, but generally the majority of the credit still goes to the game and exercise it got me doing.
So even though Hubby hates the music, I will keep playing it on my off nights from jogging to keep my activity levels up. The kids love it and us girls can all do it together. Even the little one! She wants her Ducky icon set up for her each time and generally her request is play to Hot Dog song... which is really Who Let the Dogs Out... which really annoys Daddy, but he can't help laughing at her skill during the dance! She is completely competive if she will stick out the whole dance... she wonders off a lot, but always comes back.
So I think if you like Jazzercise or any other dancing form of exercise, this game is for you. It is kinda a Chick game, but so what. It also has some suggestive movements, but not every dance or anything. It is my current workout fav. I am not even going to bother getting another fitness game until I get bored with this one!
