Do you like Easy Spirit Shoes? They're having a great sale!!!

Monday, May 23, 2011

I love Easy Spirit Shoes.

I have many pairs of their "Traveltime" Clogs.

I was looking to replace a pair in the color combination of: Turtle Dove.

So I went to their website today: www.easyspirit.com
and was pleased to see that they did still have that color in my size - ON SALE!

Originally priced $59.00 ~ I could order it today for $39.99. And they are offering FREE SHIPPING, too!

I had to go and look to see if I could find a "coupon code" to lower the price further...I DID! I found a code for "an additional $10.00 off sales items."

My replacement clogs will cost me $29.99!!!!
(My original pair in this color were: $44.25 - back in September of 2008!)

So, if you like Easy Spirit Shoes...check out their site...and maybe save some money. Free Shipping & if you use this code: "ESALE10" ~ you'll save an additional $10.00!!!

Woohoo!

Have a great week!

You will love this -- I took NINE pair of shoes on vacation. Then I had to waterproof them all once we got there. Because I didn't want to smell up the room, I sprayed them in the hotel hallway (classy huh?) and let them dry under curtains at the end of the hall. Thank God there was almost no one else on that floor. If someone had swiped them, I would have been devastated.

Too funny!

Love this; thanks for posting. N.

"The 10 Commandments of...Healthy Eating!"

Thursday, May 19, 2011

Actually the real title is:

"The 10 Commandments of Dieting."
According to Fitness Magazine; June 2011 Issue ~ By Alexa Joy Sherman.

As I read this article, I changed "dieting" to "healthy eating" in my head & for this blog. I don't ever want to diet again! I just want to eat healthy and not obsess about food! Period!

These are great points!

Do I follow these Commandments?

1. Thou shalt eat only when hungry.
2. Thou shalt eat a healthy breakfast.
3. Thou shalt eat only foods with ingredients thou can easily pronounce.
4. Thou shalt focus on thy food.
5. Thou shalt eat every three to four hours.
6. Thou shalt track every bite.
7. Thou shalt ask the server to pack up half thy meal at a restaurant.
8. Thou shalt shop only the perimeter of the supermarket.
9. Thou shalt eat thy fruits and vegetables.
10. Thou shalt have 25 grams of fiber a day.

#1 I am still working on.

#2 Has become a way of life for me!

#3 I really try to do this one, but do need more work...trying to eat less processed foods ~ more foods in their natural state.

#4 I really am working on "Mindful Eating" and focusing on my food is a big part of learning how to do that consistently.

#5 I tend to eat "The 3 Big Meals" each day: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner ~ with 1 snack; so I don't do this one, but maybe I should try it.

#6 I have been pretty good at this one since joining Spark People. It really has made a difference too!

#7 I very seldom have my restaurant meal leftovers put into a box. I try to order smaller meals and just eat them there at the restaurant.

#8 I do still shop the entire store; but understand that the fresh, natural foods are in the perimeters of the grocery store.

#9 I really have learned to eat my fruits and vegetables since joining Spark People.

#10 I added this goal to my daily food tracker this year (25 grams of fiber per day) and I still struggle to get enough fiber each day. A real work in progress!

How about you? What do you think of these "Food Commandments?"
Do you follow them? Do you find any of them easy to achieve? Difficult to achieve?

Maria, thanks for posting this! I particularly love that this is 'shalt's, not 'shalt not's - that really is the difference between eating healthfully and dieting, isn't it?
Like MISSMELS, I may print this out as motivation.

    What a GREAT post Maria!

I pretty much adhere to most of these, surprisingly! I, too, still shop the whole store...but am mindful of nutritional labels & ingredients. I try to eat as wholesome as possible! I also struggle to get my fiber in & have now incorporated eating a 1/2 cup of fiber one cereal in the evenings! I know it sounds silly but I'm getting in the fiber numbers now...& I'm getting a boost in the calcium dept w/the added milk! (another area I'm struggle in). A benefit for me has been that I feel more satisfied as a result of eating the fiber in the evenings! Go figure!

And that means LESS snacking at night! emoticon

Thanks again for an awesome post! emoticon

I think this is great! I have a little trouble focusing on my food sometimes because of eating often when I am standing up at work...a bad habit...as well as eating with children...can be very distracting!

I also have to add...
Thou shall stop eating once full!

Another one I have a problem with! emoticon

11 Months with SparkPeople and 48 Pounds Thinner!!!

Tuesday, May 17, 2011

Yesterday was my 11 Month SparkVersary.

I joined Spark People on Wednesday, June 16, 2010.

Since that day I have lost 48.2 Pounds! (Spark rounded my initial weight down by half a pound ~ but I'm counting it here today! LOL!)

Spark People set my goal that day to lose 49 pounds.

I remember thinking that was a reasonable goal. It would take work: healthier eating and exercise - but I COULD do it!

The big question - always in the back of my mind - was: I CAN lose that weight, BUT can I keep it off?

Can I learn to live a life that will support that weight?

About 7 years ago I lost weight by walking more and eating less - I thought that was a very healthy approach. A co-worked and friend of mine, also lost weight during that time. We each wanted to lose 50 Pounds. She was 10 pounds lighter than me...and we both lost 50 pounds...and we both gained some of the weight back.

In hindsight, we decided that we each had lost 10 pounds more than we were able to maintain with a reasonable lifestyle. And when we 'failed' to keep off the entire 50 pounds...we just let the weight creep back on.
Stinkin' thinkin' at it's finest!

This time, this time with Spark People and with all the tools, information and support...I have decided to make 49 Pounds Off my Goal.

I would love to lose another 8 pounds.

But can I keep it off - over the long haul - without making myself crazy?

I need to ponder these questions. I need to figure this out...over time.
Maybe I will lose a little more...or maybe not.
49 Pounds will be a major accomplishment for me.
I did it nice and slow. And in a very healthy way.
Now to continue to live that healthy life style, each day for the rest of my life.

So, next month - on June 16, 2011 - I hope to report that I have reached my Spark People Goal of 49 pounds off.
As of this morning I have 1.3 Pounds to go.

But more importantly - for me - I hope that I can report in a couple months that I am still at my goal, living and enjoying my healthier lifestyle!

Thanks Spark Friends for all your support, inspiration & motivation!
I wouldn't be where I am today without your encouragement!

~ Maria

Indoor Raspberry S'More Review

Sunday, May 15, 2011

In my blog yesterday, I posted a recipe for a "Indoor Raspberry S'More."

So day I made them using:

1 Dove Dark Chocolate Promise Candy ~ 42 Calories
1 Cub Brand Marshmallow ~ 23 Calories
1 teaspoon Gedney State Fair Raspberry Preserves ~ 17 Calories
1/2 Serving (1 Full Cracker) Honey Maid Low Fat Honey Grahams ~ 70 Calories

Total Calories: 152.

Review:
Nice combination of flavors.
They were a little bit too sweet.
Did I say 'too sweet?"
Yes, the raspberry preserves, the marshmallow, the dark chocolate & the honey graham cracker ~ all together were pretty SWEET.
I might use just 1/2 of a teaspoon of preserves next time.

Nice built in portion control ~ because I only made and ate one. And that satisfied my sweet tooth pretty well.

As I mentioned on your page, I made them too. I didn't find mine too sweet, I think for two reasons. I used sugar free raspberry jam and the crackers we have here are not graham crackers so they are not as sweet and kind of wheaty (if that is a word) so the balance was nice. Patrick, who has less of a sweet tooth than me actually prefers these biscuits over grahm crackers because they are less sweet. They are similar to those big round ones you get in the Carrs box of assorted crackers. Two of the square biscuits I used equal 66 calories...I wonder what the calories on those round crackers in the Carrs box are...

...In honor of my latest blog I also made my s'mores topless in order to save on a few calories! :D

Again, thank you so much for the great idea! I like that they are easy to control the portions too!

Recipe ~ Indoor Raspberry S'More

Saturday, May 14, 2011

Here's is a sweet & simple recipe I got from Fitness Magazine ~ May, 2011 Issue, by Dawn Jackson Blatner, R.D.

The best way to satisfy a chocolate craving...

Indoor Raspberry S'More

Spread 1 teaspoon raspberry jam on 2 graham crackers (don't break the crackers apart). Top with 1 large marshmallow and 1/2 ounce of dark chocolate. Microwave 10 to 15 seconds, until marshmallow begins to melt.

150 Calories per Serving. Enjoy!

Don't deny yourself chocolate. Reseach suggests that indulging in a little bit can help control your cravings for it.

Satisfy your sweet tooth with dark chocolate. It's made with more antioxidant-rich cocoa beans and less sugar than milk chocolate.

Look for bars with at least 60 percent cocoa.

I agree. If I deny myself totally, I end up binging. This sounds yummy. When I first started this journey, I religiously had 1 ounce of dark chocolate per day paired with three prunes, 1 cup of 1% milk and 1/2 ounce of almonds. Incredibly filling snack that satisfied my sweet tooth. I think I should get back to that to cut my sweet tooth craving, but with my new work schedule, I don't have an appropriate time to eat a snack like this.

We just had S'mores the other day. The addition of the raspberry jam sounds wonderful. The kids would really enjoy it. We don't get graham crackers here but I have fund some little square biscuits that are similar. It is a rainy day here...maybe I'll make them in the oven since I still have all the fixings. Thank you for the great idea!
