My 90 day Insanity/P90X hybrid program.

Wednesday, April 06, 2011

The last 3 months I was doing my own hybrid version of these 2 workouts. Instead of the P90X Yoga and Plyo, I subbed in an Insanity video (along with my normal kickboxing class 2x a week). I haven't done the final fit test for P90X yet, but I did do the Insanity fit test.

These are my results (remember, I only did 2 videos a week for 12 weeks):

Exercise - 1 minute per move 1/1/2011 3/27/2011 Difference
Switch Kicks 110 /124 +14
Power Jacks 58 /61 +3
Knees 112 /112 0
Power Jumps 36 /53 +17
Globe Jumps 10 /11 +1
Suicides 15 /19 +4
Push Up Jacks 25 /34 +9
Oblique move 63 /76 +13

I can tell you that after 12 weeks of P90X:
I went from 93 pullups (6 unassisted) to 101 (26 unassisted) during the Legs and Back video
I went from curling 15lb weights to 30lbs
I can do 100 (real) pushups
I can do the harder versions of most of the moves, such as lifting a leg during tricep dips and have had to add weights to moves to make them harder (weighted sneaky lunges!).

My weight throughout the process hasn't changed, but I see a lot more definition especially in my arms, shoulders and back.

All in all, I'm pretty happy with the end result. I think I got a lot more out of the workouts this time than the last 2 (probably because I actually wrote everything down this time!).

I just got the second P90X video series and I can't wait to try that one out, but not for a couple of weeks - I'm enjoying an unstructured workout regime right now!

I did it. I broke down and did it.

I joined a gym. Well, I joined our local Y. I went to Zumba with the BFF last week and we also went to her son's pool party there and I was sold. I know, you're thinking 'so what?". Weeeeellllll...

I HATE the gym. I've hated it forever. I like to workout in my PJs. I like that I know the people at kickboxing (if not by name then at least by face). I'm SUPER-DUPER cheap and didn't want to pay the monthly fee.

BUT, (or BUTT if you will)....

I figured each Zumba class was $10. If I did 4-5 classes a month plus the use of the pool with the rugrats, not to mention Cycling, Body Pump and the free childcare- WELL HELL-that would totally be worth it! Plus, we get a nice discount because hubbs is a cop!

Which brings me to the gym. BFF called me and asked if I'd like to go on a gym date with her. I already lifted today, but went anyway just to get outta the house without the kids (I'd actually taken them swimming there this morning. Gettin' my $$ worth).

The place was mostly empty and we did back and shoulders on the extremely nice and visibly new equipment. Then we hit the sauna.

QUE THE ANGELS - Ahhhhhhh emoticon

This may very well be my home away from home....

Ahhhh I love how you and your bff work out together! It's so motivating to have a buddy, and makes the time fly by. I used to work out with mine but now we are separated by hundreds of miles :( So do you still hate the gym? Zumba is awesome! It got so packed at my gym that now they issue wrist bands and only those with the bands can take the class. People line up an hour before it starts to get their band. Crazy!

SSSWWWEET. See I belong to PF and its $10. You get what you pay for however- only cardio machines, weights- no classes. SO- since I essentially get that for free, may explore a SECOND gym for the classes. I do enjoy SPINNING and may be open to attempt ZUMBA myself. Glad you rocked it! WOOO HOOO

Oh that is so nice. I wish I could join a nice gym. It's so nice all the things they have available that you don't get at home. We have a really nice Y about 45 minutes from where I live. If it were feasible for me to join I sure would - especially to go swimming.... AHHHH - I am jealous... Enjoy it.

Thanks peeps! I probably won't be using the gym all that much (we have a lot of equipment at home hence my hesitation), I mostly wanted to hit up the group classes and the pool/sauna. That and the kids activities are abundant and mostly free!

Sounds great. I have to get back to the gym. I too like to exercise on my own in my jammies. But I feel great once gone to the gym. I go early when there is only a vast few of us. Thats it I will go back tomorrow.

The key to long-term success is to take it in moderation and share with a workout buddy (which you have). It is new and exciting now. Don't overdo it and get sick of it later down the road. Good luck.

Wow, cool! I'm still very much in the anti-gym camp, but I've given it some light consideration lately. With my new equipment at the house, it's not in the cards at this point. The Y is expensive, glad you got a discount and if you get out there a lot, it sounds like you'll get your money's worth. We had a membership at the house a few years back, I think we went twice. Cancelled!

Mornin' Sparkies!

Happy St. Patricks Day! I'm irish through marriage, so I'm calling it a holiday ;) We'll be celebrating tomorrow with a slow cooked corn beef in beer, colcannon and soda bread. I will be eating salmon and asparagus!! LOL!!

I don't have a whole lot to talk about - I just want the points, so I apologize for this blog being totally random and all over the place.

First thing. Workouts.

I LOVE Zumba! I can't believe it's taken me this long to try it! It's like I'm 21 and out at the clubs again (minus the drinks, dark lighting, clubbin clothes, and sweaty dudes - well actually there were some sweaty dudes there...). Also, Kickboxing last night was really good. This is surprising because I was NOT feeling it when I got there. None of my normal partners were there. I was tired, you get the idea. I ended up working with a new kid (it was a bag class so he didn't have to hold pads for me) who actually had some technique. I schooled him though. He was trying to keep up with me and ended up throwing up. Yeah, I felt bad for him, but it's nice to know I can blow the doors off a 19 year old guy emoticon Insanity and P90X are still on the menu 5x a week also.

Food. I've been back on the tracking wagon and the grazing has been WAYYY better. Plus, it's been over a week since I gave up nuts and nut butters for lent and I'm happy to report the shakes and night sweats have subsided nicely. I've been doing more cooking too, which helps keep the grazing at bay. I posted a bunch of stuff on my other blog if you are looking for healthy recipes:
www.mommycooks.wordpress.com

Family. Hubby has pneumonia. He's a bit better and has gone back to work after being home for a week. Thank God. I love him, but it was like having a 3rd kid to take care of! My Mom is doing a little better too. She needs to get one more biopsy and an MRI and then should be starting radiation and chemo late next week. All of her doctors are super nice, we feel very comfortable with them. My Dad's legal issues continue, no visible end to that yet. My kids are awesome - healthy, happy, and SLEEPING!!!

Well now I've updated you on my life. Hope this didn't bore you to tears.
Have a great St. Paddy's!

So glad you like Zumba - isn't it awesome? I don't even feel like I'm working out because it is so much fun, and for me to say that about exercise is quite something. LOL

Oh no, Officer M has pneumonia?? Glad he is doing better though.

My thoughts are with you and your familiy during this difficult time with your mom. emoticon

First of all I am glad your mom has great doctors - That helps in this situation..I hope she does well with the radiation and chemo. I know she has a long road ahead of her and pray for her to have healing.
Second - I knew you would love Zumba - Isn't it so much fun. I have it on my Wii. It is like being out in the club without all the bad stuff huh.. I always loved dancing when I went out with my friends so I totally enjoy it.
Wow girl your doing Insanity and P90X ---- GO GIRL
Happy St. Patty's Day
