Beef with beef, response from cub

Thursday, June 20, 2013

Here is part of the response:
"Animal welfare is an important issue to Cub Foods, our associates and our customers. While we do not directly engage in raising or processing animals for our stores, we are a purchaser of these products and believe it is our obligation to ensure that each of our suppliers meets or exceeds government regulations pertaining to the humane treatment of animals.

At Cub Foods, the safety of our customers is a top priority. Cub Foods complies with all local, state and federal regulations regarding food safety and requires our supplier partners to do the same, including regulations on the use of antibiotics in farm animals. In addition, we have a comprehensive food safety and quality assurance structure in place throughout the company to ensure that were protecting the health and safety of our customers.

We continuously work closely with the appropriate regulatory and government agencies, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), to ensure the food in our stores is safe."

They also gave me some additional contact information. Overall, it was a pleasant experience dealing with this company. They were quick to respond, even if it was a blanket response and did not really address the question asked. They said they would pass on my concern.

My Beef with Beef

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

I am currently reading "My Beef with Beef" by Rip Esselstyn, who is the author of the Engine 2 Diet, which is a plant based diet. Then I get an ad from Cub Foods that announces I would not have a beef with their beef. The reason they give is because they have a butcher on site.

Really? A butcher who packages the meat for you makes it better? So, I sent them an email telling them the absence of a butcher at the store is NOT the reason I have a beef with beef and I would like to know how their suppliers treat the cattle and what they feed them.

HA! I wonder if I will get an informed answer from them or not. I am already on my second email with the Customer Service.

I'll have to look into that book. I eat mostly a plant based diet. I don't eat beef and most pork. I still eat poultry which I've switched over to organic until I'm ready to fully give up meat. It's not who cuts the meat at the store. It's the whole process before it gets to the store that bothers me.

How do you like your book so far? I am looking for some books encourages me to happily convert to plant based diet style of living. Thinking about getting this Meat with beef book or Knife over Fork. Not sure which is better.

Pony express

Monday, June 17, 2013

Not! I needed to have some letters post marked today, so I decided to run to the post office. It made me think of the pony express and I thought of my run as such, except without the pony and without the express. emoticon

It felt good on the way there, but on the way back, I forgot to cross the highway where the road was, so I ran on the ATV trail. which was sandy and had small rolling hills. I went up and down, up and down. Plus the sun was getting a bit warm by this time. I ended up walking a bit more than I planned when I started out. But I am OK with that.

Also, this is day 22 of the Runners' World mile a day Challenge.

We both placed 3rd in our age/sex division

Sunday, June 16, 2013

My granddaughter came close to her goal time 30:43, she is wanting a sub30. I was not close to my goal but I spent the day before out in the sun for abut 6 hour planting and weeding. So, I was not really expecting a good time. I crossed the finish line at 33:22. This race I usually do not expect to place because of the competitive runners that usually run this one, but for some reason they weren't there. Good for me. emoticon

I once came in 2nd in a race because there were only 2 people in my age/sex division. That made me the oldest woman in the race. I was so proud.

It still counts!

Good for you and good for your granddaughter!

I can see the resemblance. Congratulations to both of you! The competitive runners were there. Your blog shows two of them!

Just sit back and think about the great accomplishment this really is. You both have trained and worked hard. Both of you beat everyone that was home sitting on the couch.

You also have a terrific bond with your granddaughter. Thanks for sharing!
