I missed my goal time by 21 seconds, but improved my time from last year. It was a hilly trail run and hills and I do not get along. There was one hill where I seemed like I just shut down and did not have it in me to run up that thing. Fortunately, I kicked that thought out of my head quickly. My mantra became, "Hills are my friend. Hills make me strong."

The best part of the race was a woman congratulated me afterwards and told me I ran a good race and she tried to keep up with me. It made me feel good that I was her chosen one to follow because I always pick someone in front of me and try to keep pace.

I already have my game plan for next year's race: I am buying a membership to the place where it was held and am going to add hill workouts each week. This will also get me ready for that trail run I am planning in October.

My 2 mile goal...

I started to run about 4 years ago and saw an Army fitness chart when I was working out at a gym. One of the fitness test is a two mile run. I set a goal to run 2 miles in 20 minutes. That was about 3 1/2 years ago. Every now and then I set out on a two mile run and attempt to make that time goal. This morning was one of those times.

20:05 --- oh, so close. I had been doing it around 22 minutes. Maybe next time...

    I am in the army and get to look at that chart twice a year (for the past 22 years or so, counting college). The PT test, like the scale, is not a perfect fitness measure, but it is a good indicator. Keep working at it and you will get below 20! I have been working on my running a lot over the last year and when I ran this May, I brought my 2 mi time down by about a minute for my best 2 miler in years. Keep it up!

Help!!!!!!

I do not know what is going on with me, but my eating habits are becoming horrendous. I am eating things I know I should not be eating (things like fried foods, candy, donuts etc.) I think it started with a donut. All of a sudden, I am back to my old eating habits. What gives?!

I need to refocus and get back with healthy eating habits. So, I am doing the runners' World Summer challenge to run 1 mile everyday from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Hopefully, that will get me thinking about eating for fuel and health again.

try thinking, "a donut (or other indulgence) is fine, after I get my 5 freggies and water today" by the time you do that, you won't want the donut,

    I always try to remember that there's a big difference between bad eating and bad eating habits. Yep, refocus is the solution. Being aware that you CAN turn it around is a great first step!

    I hate it when that downward spiral starts! A few things that have helped me: blog about it (check), plan my meals a day ahead to make sure I have snacks, etc in my calorie range, and make a list of possible pitfalls then write out how you will handle them. Planning ahead is my best bet at staying on track! Good luck turning this around!

    I'm struggling, too, both with eating and slacking on exercise. I've managed to gain 4 pounds in a matter of a couple weeks and I need to get them back off NOW! I think part of the problem is the horrible, gloomy, depressing weather. It seems to have zapped my motivation. It's June1st -- good time to start some new goals and get back on track! Let's DO IT!
