I Tried Jeff Galloway's Easy 10k app

Wednesday, December 19, 2012

I tried the Easy 10k app yesterday and had a strong run. I was late in getting started and did not take the time to check out all the features. I happened to miss the mile per minute pace setting and after my workout I realized it was set for an 18 min/mi.

No wonder there were so many run/walk intervals. My workout was longer than I planned because of that, but it was a good workout. I actually ran a bit faster than I had in the past and was able to maintain that pace on all but two of the run intervals.

The first was when I heard, " Now you are going to run 2 miles"; I did not know if it was to run the full 2 miles or the if the run/walk would continue so I slowed my pace a bit. The other was the last one because I thought there must have been a glitch in the app and the workout was going to go on forever! I was way past the planned mileage and I needed to be somewhere else.

But other than that, I loved using the app. I do so much better when I have a voice telling me what to do. I usually use Todd Lange's (Running Mate Media) or Motion Traxx's podcasts. I cannot wait to try the app outside and see how and if the GPS will work.

romuh gninnur (running humor about running backwards)

Saturday, December 15, 2012

Sometimes, after a run I'll attempt to run backwards just to use different muscles. I found this article about running in reverse. I had a chuckle when I read Dr. Daily's comment on his conclusion about those running backward and thought to myself, "yep, I'd be in that 760%."

I'm pretty sure I'd eventually end up on my butt at some point in my running backwards!

I think I'll stick to going backward on the elliptical. LOL I know I'd be one that would bust my butt trying to run backward.

    Haha!

It's a little (little!) less dangerous/stare-inducing on an elliptical or treadmill.

He told me I don't eat a lot of candy...

Thursday, December 13, 2012

My hubby went to town yesterday and brought me back a candy bar. OK, it was a good candy bar: Green & Black's Organic 85% Cocoa. He said he thought I'd enjoy it with my coffee in the morning and since I don't eat a lot of candy he thought it be a treat.

"I don't eat a lot of candy"? Who has he been living with these 30+ years? Granted I have been buying these types of chocolate bars for my chocolate fixes, but he kept eating them so I have been stashing (as in hiding) them upstairs by my computer.

I like these candy bars because I do not eat the whole bar once I open it, but I do have some issues with other chocolates, the cheap kind that is filled with lots of stuff to make you eat more. Fortunately, I have become selective in which of those I now eat because I have found that the more I eat whole unprocessed foods the less I enjoy those cheap accessible candy bars. As a matter of fact, I saw a package of my favorite chocolate covered cherries, but they were not in dark chocolate so I left them on the store shelf.

So, since my hubby told me he thought I don't eat a lot of candy means I must have cut way back on my eating that junk. Now, if I can stop eating potato chips.

I also hide a great chocolate bar, and savor a piece or two each day. We chocoholics need our fix. Now, I have cut way back eating potato chips and when I do I only have a few. emoticon

I could say I don't each candy "often", but seems when I do, I do eat "much", because it's hard to quit. Now that I think of it, though, the good, dark chocolate is easier to use moderation with than the cheap stuff that makes you want to eat it till you're almost sick! A good observation. PS - Hope he never finds your stash! :)

Yay for eating the good stuff! And resisting the bad.

As for the potato chips, have you tried veggie chips or veggie sticks? They're baked and not as bad for you as the greasy potato chips and they don't even taste half-bad.

That is good chocolate and a nice gift and compliment :-) I know what you mean about chocolate; I used to eat milk chocolate and now I never do- it's always dark now.

Nice! The chip thing is a tough one. I love the rice chips and the organic corn chips from Costco. If I do eat them I have to portion them out and put the bag away. I could seriously eat the whole bag without thinking twice.

30 Day Shred Level 3 - it is a bust

Monday, December 10, 2012

All right, maybe it was because I did it after I come in from shoveling snow for 2 1/2 hours and I was tired. But some how shoveling the snow seemed more like work and not a workout. I needed to do something that would make me feel good, you know, to give me a mental lift.

The workout did that but I injured my wrist back in May, I overstretched a tendon. It is slow healing. It felt better until I went shopping for a holiday gift for my mom and moved a hanger on the clothes rack. Now it feels like I am back on square three (it is not as painful as when it first happened)

Level 3 had too many exercises where I had to support myself with a my wrist bent. I made it through, but do not think I will attempt to do it for the 10 days. I need to find another routine.

That really is one of the worst feelings.

Agreed about modifying using elbow planks. You could also try holding dumbbells or using yoga blocks to keep your wrists more neutral. OR if you're a complete masochist, knuckle it! (I get wrist pain occasionally from work -- massage -- and this is typically what I do, but I wouldn't recommend doing it on a bare wood floor, lol.)

Try modifying it by using your elbows. It will still give a challenge with all of those plank posititions where your legs are moving in and out. Good luck with recovery.

Come on Spark People ...

Monday, December 10, 2012

I am already logged in and my broswer slows so that a "Join Spark People" ad can pop up.
Now, that is annoying.

Not a good way to start a Monday morning with the first -0 temperature of the season.

Hope I can shake this crabby feeling soon.

Ow-that's cold. Maybe that's what had the computer moving slowly. I know mine has stopped loading a few times which is frustrating, too.
