Falling down is not a failure...

Monday, May 28, 2012

My grandson is learning to walk. I am amazed at his determination and persistence. He is still unsteady on his feet and can only take a couple of steps at a time before he falls down. Sometimes he will pull himself back up and try again immediately and other times he will crawl to wherever and whatever grabbed his interest at the time.

He pulls himself up, turns away from whatever he was hanging on to, steadies himself for a few seconds and then takes one step forward. Sometimes he will fall immediately and other times he is able to take a few steps before he falls. But never once have I ever sensed that he has a sense of failure when he falls. That is so awesome and there is a lesson that I need to learn.

The best thing to see is the sense of accomplishment he has whenever he actually makes to his goal of the moment. Falling down is not a failure, but part of the learning process.

I have a new PW

Monday, May 21, 2012

Pw - personal worst. MY 5k time on the race this weekend was the worst I ever had so far. It was so hot and humid that after the first 1/4 mile I knew I was not going to have a decent time. So, I listened to my body and ran/walked accordingly.

On the positive note, I just know that my nest race will be better. My next race is a half of a half trail run on JUne 9th. This will be a personal best for me because it will be my first time doing a trail run.

By listening to your body, you were the smartest runner. Last year, I went into the hospital because I didn't. I also found that 5K distances can be measured long or short at times. The course can be slow or fast due to flat road running, trail running, or dealing with hills and bridges. Hence, your time will reflect accordingly. I love to run against myself for PBs but the best one is that I finish. I will always celebrate the fact that I can run. Stay positive and all the best on your next race!

All of them can't be PRs. At least you finished and listened to your body. Great job!

I surprised myself...

Saturday, May 12, 2012

I went to a benefit charity 5k run today and I crossed the finish line at 31:54. emoticon The race was not chipped timed, but I was so happy to know that I can finish a 5k in less than 33 minutes. Now If i can shave a minute or two off the race I am going to run next week.

My daughter ran the race also and she finished at 42:05. My granddaughter asked her if she won and my daughter said "No, way!" I corrected her and said, "Yes, you did because you crossed the finish line."

Great job! I just did my first half marathon today. After I recover my main will be to do a 5K in sub 30 but my PB is 33. So you've inspired me! Thank you, and have a great race.

5k season is now upon us...

Friday, May 11, 2012

Well, I sat down and wrote the checks for some of the local races I want to do. Since I trained for distance rather than speed for the half marathon, my time for the 5k is about 4 minutes slower than last year. I feel like I am starting fresh now.

MY first 5k of the season is May 19th. I have been running about 34 minutes on my trial runs, so my goal is to come in under 33:00.

Wish me success.
