I heard it was going to rain today, so I decided to go for a run in the morning. I was thinking about skipping the running class if it did rain and I wanted to make sure I got some miles in.
It was sunny and in the upper 40s this morning, but it felt warmer. It felt so good running (with a few walk breaks) that I kept on going after my planned time. I ended up with a 6.59 miles run/walk.
I will say that although I have not gotten faster I am able to run for longer times now. I love it when I am going down the road and come to the realization that I am actually running. Awesome!! Three years ago I would have never thought that possible.
It still did not rain in the evening hours, so I attended the running class. We met at the track and it was speed work. I am still really slow compared to everyone else but they all seem to ignore me and I just do my thing. Afterall, I am not competing against them, I just want to improve my stamina and running time. It is me time and I do enjoy it.

Assignment was to run for 40 minutes. I succeeded! .
Again I was lagging behind the rest of the class; but I do not care about that because I am not competing against any of them. My competitors are myself and the clock.
We were told to turn around at 20 minutes. The 20 minute mile mark for me was 1.75 miles. I turned around and realized I was now the leader of the pack. Hey! My imagination went wild - I was winning the race, all other runners were way behind me.
All in all, it was a good run. I kept looking at my Garmin Forerunner to check my pace and noticed that I seem to slow down mid-run. I think that is something I'll need to work on as I do these distance runs.
My total run distance was 3.54 miles in 40 minutes

It was a bad workout for me. Insomnia the night before and I was awake at 1:30 am. Then had a full day of housework, running errand and 2 1/2 hours of hauling wood uphill. It was a prescribed burn somewhere in the area and the air was not of good quality; so, I had difficulty breathing.
The work out was for speed. We started with a 4 lap warmup, then jog the corners and sprint the straightways x4, cool down was a 4 lap. Though that was not a cool down for me, so I did a 1 lap walk for my cool down.
I do not think that I will be able to keep up with the rest of the class. I just started running about 3 years ago and since I am probably about 25 years older than most of them I expect that I will be slower. I could go into the 101 class, but I feel that has too much walking. Plus I want to challenge myself and get used to pushing myself to go faster. As long as the instructor does not mind me lagging behind, I'm fine with that.
My total workout was 3.28 miles.

I was almost disappointed. I joined the advanced class because I am hoping to increase my speed and stamina. I was expecting it to be like a class, you know, with a teacher and students. Instead it was go out on this road and run for 40 minutes.
So, off we went. I managed to stay with the group for about 5 minutes. Then one by one the group left me. I brought my ipod nano with my Nike+ sport kit and managed to jog 4.06 miles. I had forgotten my earphones and so that was my first run without music blaring in my ears. I found that it was not a bad experience.
I ended up jogging with someone with an injured knee so I had some company part of the way. Not sure if I should brag about being able to keep pace with an injured runner, but the company was pleasant.
When I came home, my hubby asked me how it went and I replied, "If I can run faster, I might be able to run with the rest of the group and maybe find a running buddy." I shall see what happens.
Today is rest day and tomorrow is speed workout. Ha, I could not keep up with a jog, I wonder how I will do. Good thing running is an individual sport and I am only competing with myself. Here's to a new PR by the end of the class.
Thank you for reading my blog and I hope you have a wonderful day.
