What are you wasting your time on that _____ for?

Friday, August 02, 2013

When I was 14, I used to write. A lot. I loved creating worlds. Using my characters to express my emotions. They stories were about kids, like me. Gay teenagers who wanted to find someone and somewhere to belong. Of course, not being out, I couldn't show my work to anyone. Then one day, I wrote a science fiction story. I was so very proud of it. I took it to my father to show him. He looked at my folder, and said, "What are you wasting your time on that $hit for? It's never going to amount to anything."

To me, at 14, that meant my father telling me I was never going to amount to anything. For years I stopped writing. Then one day I met someone who encouraged me to not give up. To keep going until my dream was realized. I present to you the cover to my book.

This post has a dual purpose. One: I'm very excited that something I wrote is actually going to be a real, honest to goodness paperback book with MY name on it.

Two: To show you that you should never give up on your dream. Only you define it. Don't let others do it for you. If they don't support you, find someone who will. You're VERY much worth the effort.

Will

I believe that our parents (however well-intentioned or not) have their own blinders on...and only see the reality that (up until now) has been presented to them.

Some are more visionary...but many are limited by what their parents, their friends, or their social group did.

Many times you will have an artistic child born to a pair of sports nuts...or a military child born to a pair of artists... in both cases, the child's reality (desires) are completely opposite from the parents' reality. Which can make growing up difficult in both cases.

I think it shows a level of maturity in the child, when they accept that their reality is different AND continue to go forward with it. And a new level for the parents when they realize their child can be (and is) successful in that different reality.

Congrats on making your dream come true with your new book.

Congratulations! Good for you. Life is what YOU put into it and can't listen to what others tell you. The most important thing is what YOU think of you. Very proud of your accomplishment.

Best. Vacation. EVER!

Thursday, March 28, 2013

We never go anywhere on our vacation. In fact, we rarely leave the house except for maybe grocery shopping or to let the dogs out.

Why was this my best vacation ever?

I found out that not one, but TWO of my stories are going to be published this year. The first one is called 500 Miles. A short story about loving someone in the military and what happens when that love comes before Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

The other is a young adult novel entitled "Pitch". The most awesome and amazing thing about this is that it's going to be an e-book, a paperback, and (if I read the contract right) an audio book.

So who needs to travel far and wide to have a good time? I had a great time just staying at home.

This has been an amazing day for me...

Monday, March 18, 2013

Today I received a contract to publish my story "500 Miles". The editor, who is apparently a pretty tough lady, said it was touching and made her cry.

Then a friend of mine sent me this lovely gift to congratulate me.

Wow. Did I screw up.

Thursday, March 07, 2013

Even though I've been using SparkPeople daily to track my food, still I've screwed up (a lot). Not really sure how or when. I stay under calories nearly every day, but for some reason still picked up some of the weight I've lost.

So it's back to basics. Find out what went wrong, why it happened, and see what I can do to get back on track. Keep your fingers crossed.

I swear, pounds are like predators; you can shake 'em for a while, but if you let your guard down, they find you.
Going back to basics is a great idea. I think might even have to revisit the book, too.

Are you eating healthy foods?? Sometimes its not all about calories but what you are eating. Believe me i know. I'm great on exercise but suck on the diet.

It is a fact that weight can fluctuate up to 5 lbs a day. Drink more water to flush sodium; thereby reducing water retention.

My first public story has been posted!

Wednesday, December 26, 2012

I recently posted my very first public story, "Nuttin' for Christmas". The story of Eli who must save the man he loves, Tommy, before it's too late.

This is a young adult story, there is no sex and should be pretty much age appropriate for anyone thirteen and up.

If you wouldn't mind leaving a comment at the blog page, even if it's to say don't give up my day job, I'd truly appreciate it.

(Be warned: This story is unpolished. I have not sent it to anyone to have them check for spelling, etc. I think it should be okay, but just in case. Also, it caused a couple of people to tear up, so keep that in mind, too.)

Thank you for your time!

OMG . . . that is a fantastic story. Went thru a box of kleenex reading it! Well, there should be a kleenex rating for it. Definitely a "four-boxer!"

Excellent story. Sure, it's always alright to keep a day job, but don't give up the writing!

Hope you had a fabulous Christmas. Wighing you peace and joy for the holidays and the coming new year!
