Adventure Cycling Green Moutain Tour

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

Just came home from the Green Moutain Tour. 424 miles in the Green Moutains of Vermont. Mostly followed the Adventure Cycling Assocation Green Mountain Tour maps. Made a couple of unintentialy route changes as the loop should have been 360 miles.

The great thing about cycling vacations is that you always come home feeling like you've accomplished something when you've come home. Unfortuntely, the leaves did not start to change but I couldn't have order better weather or scenery along the way. Got to see deer, turkey, porcipine, blue heron and other water foul along the way.

There were just 3 of us on the trip so there were no crowds to contend with along the way. Vermont and New Hampshire are very bicycle friendly areas and it was nice to see other loaded tourest along the way. Normally don't see that that but I believe part of the route we were riding is along a common US coast to coast route.

Will need to start looking for another ride for next year. If one thing this ride taught us that you need to do more upfront planning when you go the unspported route.

Approaching Year Anniversary

Friday, August 19, 2011

I'm rapidly approaching my year anniversary of my weight loss. Since last year the weight has floated as high as 10 lbs over and only once below my weight loss goal. Would prefer it stay within +/- 2.5 lbs but suspect my goal weight is rock bottom of what it should be.

Also hit another major milestone, I just took my youngest off to his first year of college. It was hard when the oldest left but even harder now -- the house is so quiet. I know that he will do great and that both are off to do wonderful things.

Looking forward be getting active again now that my husband is recovering from back surgery. He should be released to full activity in the next 3 weeks or so. We actually might be able to get in a few fall bike rides in after all. Now that the temperature is moderating that would be very nice. I'm ever so thankful that this helped and hopeful that is issues are solved.

Quotes at the Bottoms of Co-workers Emails

Monday, April 04, 2011

I usually don't pay much attention to the inspirational quotes some people put in the footer of their emails. One did count my eye "Your actions are speaking so loudly; I can't hear your words."

If more people would actually pay attention to how their actions contradict their words, and work to align their actions with their ideals, the world would be a much better place...

Spring Break

Wednesday, March 23, 2011

Had an awesome time on Spring break last week. Lots of outdoor activity and hiking the scenery was awesome - Hoover Dam/Lake Mead, Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, West Rim Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Zion.

Was not able to do everything we wanted to do because North Rim of Grand Canyon and Cedar Breaks were still closed for winter, a big DUH on my part, but at least that was caught before we tried to get there.

Learned a that a trail description of "tricky rock scramble at the end" was more than I bargained for. Also, learned that fear of heights is a fickle phobia. I had to make myself do the "tricky rock scramble" and my husband and son had no issues. Yet when it came the clear skywalk over the Grand Canyon, I waltzed right on and looked at the interesting view. While hubby and son had to make the long hard walk. On the scramble, it was all it could do not to imagine the broken bones with a slip of foot, yet the bridge didn't bother me because it can hold 10,000 lbs (no issues there).

On the tricky rock scramble a 20-something made my day when I encouraged her that she could do that if I did it and she replied -- No way, you are in way better shape than I am.

All I can say is that all of these parks offered awesome scenery and were all very different. I just love going out west, I just need to remember to go a little bit later in the year so I can do more without the snow.

I will try to get some of the pictures uploaded soon.

Apprehension

Saturday, November 20, 2010

It has been a couple of months and I 'm still staying at my goal weight but the holidays are so hard. Going to be traveling for Thanksgiving and it will be a struggle to stick to good food choices. Then there is the difficulties of having all the holiday parties, pot lucks, food at work. Makes you want to become a hermit for the next two months.

Did horrible on calories today but did get a good long hard walk. Will try to do better tomorrow.
