My brand new NSV – I’m cleaning up NOW

Tuesday, October 08, 2013

No really – I’m cleaning! I have not been able to clean my house for over 6 years. My hubby took care of it….well…he cleaned the middle and kept it looking ok. It really needed a deep cleaning. And purging!!!

I have been de-cluttering since Saturday. I’ve thrown away 8 big garbage bags of stuff and have a couple of others sat aside for a yard sale. And I’ve only done 2 and half rooms! I am slowly working my way around the house. I am for the most part using the Fly Lady methods and doing it in 15 minutes tasks. You’d be surprised what you can accomplish in 15 minutes when you don’t have to set down to rest every two minutes!!

I’ve also been able to start helping cook and clean the dishes. I wasn’t able to do that for a very long time. My husband James had to take care of me like I was a baby. I couldn’t help him at all. Now I CAN!!!!! It has been so satisfying to clean the house. I’m sure I will get tired of it eventually and then wish I didn’t have to clean but for right now I am simply enjoying doing it and watching my house become a comfy and welcoming home once again!

Saturday is house cleaning day my Mom said long ago. And I just feel like staying here on the internet. . . . . but I'll set my timer 20 minutes to do a start on just picking up. . . . . then if I wish come back here with washer, dryer & dish washer hummin' (We have it so much better than our Moms had it!) and on & on until I feel that thrill of accomplishment. You Spark People really rock! God Bless!

I hear you loud and clear. I have only lost 20 lbs and already I am able to do a bit of the housework to take some of the load off hubby. We moved in last week and there is soooo much unpacking to do and I am able to help! It does make me proud and happy. I still want to spend some time talking to you, but as you can imagine I am up to my eyeballs in boxes, literally! LOL. Have lots of fun discovering your home again.

That is the way I tackle clutter too; I usually set a timer for 20 minutes, and tell myself I only need to work on it for that time. Sometimes I do quit after that time, but other times, I feel motivated by what I have accomplished in such a short time, that I just keep working on it for a little bit longer.

Land sakes alive!!! What a coo and a MAJOR NSV!!! Now you and your hubby can clean the house, do dishes, and even cook, side by side. What a neat way to spend time that you never had before, together!!! I actually feel like I'm going through this with you, as I've been there. There is still some cleaning I'm not able to do, because of my leg, now, but we're working on that, too.

My Story

Tuesday, October 01, 2013

Note = this turned out to be a long one – but I really put my heart into it.

A friend of mine… Letha_ ….Says that “Becoming fit and healthy is my full time job and Spark People is my office.”

The first time I read that on her page it just stunned me speechless. I LIVE this statement. I am disabled and therefore do not work outside the home anymore (I worked for 19 years). I spend hours a day on Sparkpeople. I spend 2 hours a day most days working out. (chair aerobics) I spend hours responding to the teams I am a member of and the three teams I lead. I spend from 5 or 6 am in the morning to when my husband gets home at 5pm on working out and Sparking. I do of course have to take time out to take care of my Daddy who lives with us and is fighting small cell lung cancer. That takes a bit of time but my Daddy is worth it. All the time I spend on Sparkpeople is ME time. I love every minute. I realize that most people simply cannot devote that much time to Sparkpeople or their workouts, but for me it simply works. It does not feel like a job to me, but I spend as much time as I would a job. (But no job I’ve ever heard of lets you sit in an easy chair when sitting at the desk gets to be to much LOL) My husband is completely supportive of the time I spend on here. He is very proud of the progress I have made. As of today I have lost 79 pounds this year. I am aiming for 100 lost by years end….I may not make it but I think I will come dang close. 21 more pounds to go and 91 days left to do that in – that’s 0.23 pounds a day or 1.61 pounds a week. Since May I have averaged a 10 pound loss each month so I believe I can keep that up with all of my wonderful friends support. You know – I do this for myself, but it has taken on a life of its own. When I feel down or don’t want to workout the first thing I think of is how far I’ve come and how I don’t want to let myself down. But the second thing I think of is all of you! You’ve all supported me the whole way and with such care and enthusiasm that I could not stand to let any of you down!

I also cannot stand to let my Daddy down. He is so proud of the weight I have lost. He tells everyone that he got sick so I could get well. Even though I started losing weight at the first of the year, it was going slowly and I was not exercising. (At least I was back on Sparkpeople – I’ve been a member since 2006 just never really tried before this year) Daddy got sick in April and in May was in the hospital for 3 weeks. Two of those weeks in a hospital about 2 hours away from our home. My husband James and I went down the first week to stay in a motel to be near him, we had to make sure we had a ground floor room because I couldn’t do stairs very well, and we had to take my mobility cart to the hospital every day because I could not walk from the parking lot to Daddy’s room. I told my James while we were sitting in the hotel room that I was going to have to do something serious and quick because my Daddy needed me. I HAD to start walking to help my Daddy.

Now I walk everywhere, I can stand up for more than just 5 minutes. There are so many things I can do now. Simple things that most people take for granted like taking a shower….James had to help me because I could not reach around everywhere. That was a huge NSV for me the day I realized I could simply go take a shower! Others, like crossing my legs, putting my socks on, putting on a pair of pants without having to sit down to do it. Fitting in chairs that I couldn’t before. Seat belt in our white car fits me without an extension now (red car still needs extension – very short belts!) I can play with my dog again and she loves it. I can help James put away the groceries, heck I even get to help shop for them now that I can walk around the store. (this is huge for me because I am agoraphobic but am working with a counselor and my James to be able to go in public places.)

Well, I’ll close my book now! Sorry this ended up being so long. Thanks for reading
Hugs to all of you my friends!!!!!

Embracing the changes we need for a healthy lifestyle takes time and it also takes up a lot of room in your head. I spend a good part of my day reading about nutrition and healthy habits. Your NSVs sound thrilling to me. I have mine written in a notebook and numbered, and after a year I'm on 110. It's a great pleasure to think of them, note them, and look back on them when I get discouraged. I hope your success inspires you to know that you're worth it, every single exercise minute and every single healthy choice. Best wishes to you for continued success in mind and body.

Kathy I know exactly how you feel. I used to weigh 340 pounds then I lost down to 304 and that took me a couple of years because I was just doing it here and there. then I found spark people and I loved it. I spent a lot of hours on it. Then a couple of years ago I got two cancers and had a series of operations I lost 90 pounds and could tie my own shoes. Hubby had to do it before. I cried the first time. I could walk without holding on to a shopping cart. Then came chemo and the steroids and I gained back 60 pounds. I was so mad and frustrated that I had lost all that weight and then because of the steroids gained so much back. After I felt better I came back to spark and all my friends. some were still here and some were not. But in all the time I was gone they sent me letters and cards. I will never be able to thank them enough.
Now I have been in remission for 2 years...I thought it was 1 a while back and then realized it had been 2 already LOL. spark and all my spark friends are again helping me to get back on track.
You have lost an awesome amount of weight. I am so proud of you . One day I will be able to say that too. hugs, Pam

Finally!!!!

Wednesday, September 25, 2013

I made 350!!!! I can now weigh on my balance scale without adding the extra weight to make it go over 350!!!!!

And another thing I accidentally discovered yesterday – I can cross my legs! I actually put my foot on top of my opposite knee. I haven’t been able to do that in years!!!! Figured it out in the Doctors office when I was trying to put my sock back on! LOL - Kept doing it at home and making my husband come look and see! LOL. Now I can actually do the last stretch in Coach Nicole’s resistance band video!

I hope you are all well and I want to send an extra thank you for all of your support. I always try to respond to each of you individually, but I may miss someone someday so please know that every note, comment, goodie and good wishes are highly prized and appreciated by me!

Congratulations on hitting a milestone and on the leg crossing! I am a bit jealous as I can not cross my legs. Seems to be something that I should be able to do, but with bursitis in one hip and the sciatica plus always having "tight" hips, crossing the legs is a no go!

    Kathy,

Oh how grand the smell of success is!!! I'm right there with you. I was almost to the point, where the doctor's scale wouldn't handle me and my MORBIDLY OBESE body, so I understand where you're coming from. Just to not have to put the big weight to the higher number!!! OH MAN, WHAT A RUSH!!!

So, you're doing something that I'm not able to do, as of yet, which is crossing your legs. Again, what a CUE!!! You deserve every NSV that you've gotten, and every time you conquered that SCALE, TOO!!!

One day, I will be able to cross my legs, and that will be another one of my NSV!!!

emoticon girl, let's go get em!!!

Be blessed,

I think a lot of us can relate to not being able to cross our legs (see our feet when we look down, taking stairs SLOWLY because it hurts so much, and a lot of other things) so we can really say a heartfelt congratulations! When I put my socks on I have to grab the bottom of my pants leg and pull my leg up onto my knee, I can't just do it by myself. I have trouble with my shoes too, some of it is because of arthritis though. I recently discovered elastic shoelaces and they're great! They make tie-up shoes into slip-on's but the elastic keeps the shoe from being too loose once they're on.

First day of Fall and goal dang near met!

Sunday, September 22, 2013

Ok – so I didn’t make my summer goal – but I only missed it by ONE POUND!!!!!! I lost 35 instead of 36 pounds since summer started. YYYYYAAAAAAHHHHHOOOOO!!!!!!!
emoticon emoticon emoticon

It’s also been 7 months today since I quit smoking!!!!!!!
emoticon

The equinox brings autumn on September 22, 2013 at 4:44 P.M EDT. So actually it is not fall yet as of this posting.
emoticon

It is the summer's great last heat,
It is the fall's first chill: They meet.
–Sarah Morgan Bryan Piatt

Now it is time to make a new goal. I will post this on my page as well. My next big goal is to get to 100 pounds lost. I would like to do this by the end of the year. So this is my New Years Eve Goal. As of today I have lost 75 pounds. I need to lose 25 more to make this goal. This is less than I had to lose for my summer goal so I fully believe this is doable.
emoticon

Happy Fall Ya’ll

I have started walk away the pounds but won't be doing any today as my legs are still tired. I must have really worked them more than I thought at the Y earlier. I will also lmake a goal for the new years eve. I will make it that I will also lose 25 lbs by then. Here is to you and I will follow your lead emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

emoticon On the emoticon too! I'm sure that by now you can feel it in your lungs how much better it is, especially when you're exercising. (I quit smoking over 9 years ago, and I've not had the burning lung sensation during cardio for as long as I can remember.) emoticon
