Non – Scale Victory! Measurements!!!!

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

I’ve lost since July 3rd, 2013 =

3.25 inches from waist

2 inches from my hips

¼ inch from my neck

thigh stayed the same (not sure why)

½ inch from my calf

1 inch from my upper arm

5.75 inches from my band size!!!!! (WOW- I knew I had to order new bras – stretch ones - but I didn’t realize it was that much! I just thought my bras were old and stretched out)

I haven't had any measurement changes in a long while
but love hearing about yours. Yea, new bras, that will
be fun. I still pop the plastic rings on sexier bras, so
sturdy ones still in my drawer until some other day.

Did you “hear” me – I said I FIT!

Ok – now where did I fit – LOL

I fit behind the wheel of my husbands 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle! I didn’t fit the last time I tried. Last summer we put a new engine in it (bought it one piece at a time…literally)
While hubby was getting everything the way it should be he needed me to sit in the car and rev the engine…well, I couldn’t do it…I couldn’t fit. I had to stand outside the car and push the gas pedal with my cane. It broke my heart because when we were first married he let me drive his “baby” down the road and I fit just fine. (Now it is not road legal – it is a drag car – so I can’t take it down the road but I am happy just sitting in it!!!)

Unfortunately I still don’t fit behind the wheel of our black truck. I tried it last night and my leg won’t go under the steering wheel, but I am closer than I was before! Hopefully I will be fitting in it again soon. When I do, I will definitely post about it!

Hi Kathy, I don't know you, but stumbled on your SPARK page while visiting a friend's page, to thank her for a goodie of flip-flops. Saw that she had given you a pair, your picture looked like me. We are in about the same place. Only I am older, and it is working slowly toward my goal.

But you are doing emoticon ! So I just wanted to stop in and tell you how phenomenal you are! Keep up the exercise!

I'm saying a prayer for you, and sending wishes for strength!

Now your will really start noticing the
weight loss. We are so bloated at first that it
takes a lot for us to notice. I don't expect
to see much of a change till I have 50 off
either. It is fantastic to see your rings
getting loose ...shoes getting to big ...and
even clothes that are starting to hang like
the were made to. It must be so nice to see
your top hang and not snug as a glove.
I can't wait for that to happen.

How exciting it had to be when you fit in
your Chevy. Is that your hubby in the picture?
I have no doubt that your going to fit in that

50 pounds gone!!!!!

Sunday, July 21, 2013

Well here I am, 50 pounds down. I can tell a tiny bit by looking at my pictures but not a whole lot. But my clothes are getting looser (this is a real accomplishment since I have worn the same clothes for many, many pounds – everything I have is stretched out!)
My rings are looser and I am now wearing several that I haven’t been able to wear in years. My shoes are getting looser. I have more energy – I am exercising over an hour each day now…it feels great! I will be glad when the pictures show a more dramatic loss, but I am very happy with the changes that I CAN see and feel.

I understand, as a big girl, it just takes more loss to really see a difference. I think I am losing weight in my back first as usual. The last place I gained is the first place to lose from. Seven Days to Go - How often to weigh?

Tuesday, July 16, 2013

How often do you weigh in? We are all told repeatedly not to weigh too often…that it will discourage you. I find just the opposite is true for me. I weigh every morning. It keeps me honest. See, when I only weighed in once a week I would always say that I had 7 days to go, and I would end up sabotaging myself…there is even a poem written about it…I don’t know who wrote it, but I found it years ago and have it posted on my personal website...

Seven Days to Go
That piece of cake I saved is near one big slice;
I have no fear,
besides no pounds will even show,
'cause I've got 7 days to go.

A day of shopping, to the mall we go
for a burger special, it's cheaper you know.
I'll walk it off, I have no fear,
6 days to go, no weigh-in near.

I think I'll skip my lunch,
a devil dog is what I'll munch,
tuna's getting expensive you know,
beside I've got 5 days to go.

For breakfast, one egg, toast and juice,
kids left their pancakes, oh what's the use,
with inflation, to waste is a sin.
Besides its 4 days till I weigh-in.

For breakfast I'll just have coffee today,
maybe I'll lose more that way.
For supper a little extra I'll eat,
3 days before those scales I meet.

Boy this weekend is really rough,
restaurant menus are really tough.
I'll work this fried shrimp off, have no fear,
in just 2 days it'll be clear.

Now my nerves are really a wreck,
I might as well eat, oh what the heck.
I'll take two ex-lax late tonight,
1 day to go, it'll be alright.

Day to go
I can't afford to eat, no way.
Six trips to the john might save my day.
I gained two pounds, wouldn't you know?
I guess I didn't have Seven Days to Go.

Now I don’t have cheat days…I am accountable every day. Does the scale fluctuate? Of course it does, but I have learned what a normal fluctuation is for me. This method will not work for everyone. Some people simply can’t handle weighing in every day. That is fine. But for me, I have found this works best for me. I do not track my weight on SP everyday as the fluctuations would look rather silly and it would not be a true measure of my weight. I wait until the scale shows the exact same thing for three days in a row before I will log it. Some times this means logging it in every 3 days…sometimes it means not logging for a week or more. Again, this is what works for me.

I am not saying everyone should try this. BUT – if you have problems with cheat days and the “7 days to go” problem, then maybe you should give it a try.

I weigh a few times a week unless I forget. I use my wii board.
If I get tempted by DH bad food he brings in, I get on the scale to
remind me of my goals.

If I think my tummy skin is looser I get on the scale like this
morning. I wasn't planning on it till Monday.

DEBBIE84 7/19/2013 10:17PM

Love the poem. I also weigh myself every morning and do much better with daily weigh-ins. It not only keeps me accountable, but I stay right on top of my weight so that pounds don't creep back on. If I had done this for the past few years I would not have regained 50 pounds that I lost in 2006. I don't let slight fluctuations in my weight bother me because they are normal.

Love your poem! I always need accountability so I weigh every day. I only record the weight when it changes, unless I'm in a challenge. I now have a better understanding of how my body works, and the effects of too much sodium.
Even when I'm at a plateau, I try not to be frustrated by the numbers by using other measurements (BP, body measurements, and energy levels). It's so interesting to read how people manage the scale numbers for themselves.

Great poem, thanks for sharing! I too weigh myself every morning (and sometimes at night to see how I fluctuate throughout the day) but I only log my weight once a week. I don't allow myself any cheat days and if I eat more than I should I make sure to work out harder to help burn off the excess calories.

I do, however, need to get a better scale. The one I have not is kind of erratic when doing weights. I always weigh myself multiple time and take the weight that shows up the same 3 times in a row. I can step on the scale 6 times and get 4 different weights LOL. One time, I weighed myself and then my boyfriend weighed himself....I got back on the scale after him and it showed that I gained almost 2 pounds in the matter of a minute....stupid scale. So as you can see I need to invest in a new one.

Have a great day! emoticon

I weigh myself each morning, but I only log once a week. I do take a free day each week and after 2 + years of this I know what to expect the following morning. The daily weigh in let's me see that I made more good choices the day before than bad ones (as long as there's a small loss anyway). And since I do have the free day, each day should show a loss as I lose the weight of the free day and then some.

Nice Kathy - love the poem - I used to weigh in everyday in the beginning ( for me ) because I was inactive due to leg injuries for two years prior . So when I was able to move the weight peeled off and I was in ecstasy and it did hold me accountable. Then when I started to plateau , I would get frustrated with the scale not budging emoticon and decided that I would concentrate on NSV and emoticon for a week or two then hit the scale and broke the plateau , that was awesome. Now I weigh myself every three days . Guess everyone is different that way . Hugs K

    I really loved the poem...

I weigh in once a week or even every other week. If I weigh every day and I see that my weight went up, that's when I say 'Ah..what the heck' and risk giving up. By not seeing my weight fluctuate and seeing 1 to 3 lb drops a week works for me. It actually keeps me honest and more motivated to see how much I can drop on the next weigh in.

Also, I have changed my weigh in day to Friday morning since I am really good Monday through Friday. (Sometimes the weekends get away from me and I don't want to see a slight weight gain after the weekend.)

Thanks for sharing.

Wishing you a wonderful day! emoticon

Well…just thought I should check in. I’ve now lost a total of 46 pounds….will soon be 50 lost! I am working out everyday and encourage you to check out my shared trackers for exercise ideas if you need to add more exercise to your routine.

You know – I used to think that the best part of SparkPeople was the trackers. I do love my food and fitness trackers. But I’m finding out that the best part is the PEOPLE! This is new to me because I am very introverted and have high anxiety. I stay home as much as possible and avoid crowds at almost all costs. But here at SparkPeople there is no “crowd” just individuals interacting on a one on one basis. I’ve met some of the nicest people in the world here on SparkPeople. I just love to open up my email and see all the notifications from SP…it always makes me happy.

So here is to you – ALL of my friends - old ones, new ones, and ones yet to be made – you have all made an impact in my life and I cherish each and every one of you
