Bubbles

Monday, June 24, 2013

Sunday June 23, 2013 was a good day. Woke up about 7, ate my breakfast then worked out for an hour! Then my hubby and I went shopping. Went to Magic Mart first and I actually walked around the store!!!! Did not have to take my mobility cart with me. It was a very freeing feeling.

Next we went to Kmart. I did ride one of their mobility carts there. Old habits die hard I guess and I was very tired from Magic Mart. Bought 3 new beautiful shirts for $5 a piece!!! Don’t want to spend too much on clothes right now as I am losing pretty good and my clothes are starting to get loose on me. But I was so pleased to find something pretty that actually fit.

When we came out of Kmart I realized I needed to use the restroom. Should have gone in Kmart! This Kmart is in a mall and I had to literally walk 5 minutes to the bathroom. But I was so pleased that I could actually make the walk. I could NOT have done that just a few short weeks ago. My workouts are making such a difference.

Now – about those bubbles – my husband and I are both just a couple of big kids at heart and he saw some bubble solution in Magic Mart. Well – he actually bought a big bottle of it! We sat in the car in the parking lot blowing bubbles!!!!!! Felt like a kid again. It was so much fun! Got home and played some more on the back porch – my dog didn’t know what to think of me! LOL

That was a fun trip! I loved those bubbles too. I should get some. My cat would have a fit!! I'm so proud that you are losing weight so well - fantastic.
I see that you belong to a chair exercise team. I don't, but I have four DVD's from Stronger Senior Chair leader Anne Burnell. I really like them. I get around fine but exercise a lot to DVD's. I don't feel comfortable walking on the street so walk to Leslie Sansone DVD's or in my back yard. I don't drive anymore either. I think I've pretty much answered everything about me on my page, but if you have any questions - just ask. My problem isn't weight - I weigh 115 - 116. I just want to stay limber and able to get around on my own.
Hope you have a super week. emoticon Nancy emoticon

I quit smoking 4 months ago today

Saturday, June 22, 2013

Wow! 4 months! I'm so glad I quit. It has made a huge difference in my life! Especially since my Daddy was diagnosed with lung cancer. He has needed me and I don't think I could have helped him if I was still smoking. I have been actively trying to lose weight since January but wasn't doing any exercise - I started doing exercise when Daddy got sick and now I can walk him into the hospital and doctors offices with little trouble. I even walked around the grocery store and I haven't been able to do that in years. It is also nice to not have to worry about going outside to smoke while I sit in the hospital with him while he gets his treatment. I am very lucky in that I have not had one crave since I quit smoking...before when I would quit it would be really bad...this time I know it is my forever quit! I am vigilant though - I know I am only one puff away from two packs a day.

I have applied the same determination to my weight loss and my new eating plan. I had to start watching my food intake when my sugar went wacky. I have been a diabetic for years but it was always well controlled with pills. Now I have to watch my carbs like a hawk or my sugar will shoot up. This of course has the added benefit of weight loss. (yes I know low carb is hugely controversial but my doctor has me on this eating plan and watches me closely and I am healthier than I have been in years)

This whole journey started with one day that my cigarettes made me really sick...I vowed that day to change my life so that I wouldn't die young like my mother and brother did. I may still get cancer one day - Daddy had been quit smoking for 20 years and still got it - but at least I know I have tried to make myself healthier.

I am so proud of my new friend. My husband quit 3 1/2 years ago and it was one day at a time. I really admire you for dieting and stopping smoking at the same time. emoticon

emoticon emoticon Congrats on stopping smoking! It is SO addictive, like legal crack. I never smoked, but I have friends and coworkers (I'm a nurse in an Emergency Dept) that smoke. I just look at them in amazement (as I eat the pizza one of my co-dependent friends brought in). Sigh ....

Great job! I quit many years ago but remember how hard it was when I did. It does really make a difference in how you feel. Unfortunately it also makes food taste better ;) I remember I gained 20 lbs when I quit but managed to get that off since I was able to exercise more. I just changed my habit to exercising instead of smoking :) emoticon

My Friday the 14th

Saturday, June 15, 2013

Was it really the 14th or did somebody slip in a 13 on me!?

Went to hospital to get blood work for Daddy and see if his white count was ok. While we were waiting on results - hubby called and said Daddy's radiation Dr was trying to get a hold of him so I called him from the hospital - they are starting radiation on Tuesday the 18th and Chemo on the same day, right after the radiation.

While we were absorbing the news that we now had concrete plans of what was going to happen and when - we got the results back from Daddy's blood work......
low white count AND low hemoglobin! had to have a simple shot for the white count but had to have blood transfusion for hemoglobin. 2 units - three hours each. But they had so much trouble finding a vein on Daddy that the doctor ordered a picc line to be inserted so they did not have to fight to find a vein each time Daddy needed blood drawn or given or the chemo given. Procedure was supposed to take 30 minutes - took 2.5 hours because they had such trouble finding a vein to put the picc line in! Then they had to start the blood. Daddy got home at midnight.

anyway - I got my workout in - I've made getting my workout each day a priority - no matter when I have to do it - I am going to do it!

Another interesting day

Friday, June 14, 2013

Interesting day yesterday!

first off I had to take Daddy to the hospital for a shot for his white count and a Pet scan. We got to the hospital at 11:40 am and did not leave until 5 pm! I had lunch at the hospital and ate some chicken strips. A few more carbs than I am used to but it was the healthiest thing I could find and did not raise my blood sugar too much. (can't eat salads because they have too much vitamin K and I am on blood thinners)

Then as it got closer to 5 pm I called my husband to let him know that he might get home before us. He proceeded to tell me that his mothers house was broken into again! She is not living there due to a previous break in that scared her bad. She moved into a trailer owned by my aunt. This time the thieves took everything and what they couldn't carry off they destroyed. There had been some pictures left on the walls and they broke the frames and ripped the pictures! They stole everything - even the refrigerator and stove! and last but not least.... they stole the steel doors off the porch and front door! We found all this because a neighbor called us and said there was a truck stuck in the driveway spinning its wheels. The cops came and the people were gone but they had the truck towed. But the cop said all he could do was give him a warning for trespassing because there were no stolen items in the truck at the time - they unloaded the last load and threw it over the railroad tracks. and they couldn't even give them a full ticket because we didn't have no trespassing signs posted! oh well - maybe God will get them. My poor mother-in-law doesn't know yet...we are going to tell her about it today - she is going to be terribly upset - there were still things in that house that mattered to her. - not to mention they stole my husbands transmission that he had setting in house!

anyway - I still got my work 0ut in and did not resort to smoking (I have been quit since Feb 22, 2013.) So it was a good day health wise!

WOW - you are really doing awesome especially on the smoking and staying on track. If you cannot do anything about the situation, then messing up your life probably won't improve things. If you improve your health, then you will be able to deal with the realities that keep dumping manure on you more easily and effectively. Prayers for you and your mother-in-law. When people do stuff like that, it often comes back to haunt them later. I am so sorry you have had so much stress on you lately.

That's a lot of stress! Good for you not smoking! And great job getting your workout in! Exercise will definitely help with the stress! I hope your mother in law does ok with the news...jerks. Karma will get them.

Good luck!

What a wild day!

Tuesday, June 11, 2013

Started off well....got a good nights sleep - that is becoming more common for me since I got me new cpap machine!

Had been up about 40 minutes when we got a phone call saying that Daddy's white count was low from the chemo and he had to go to the hospital to take a shot (has to do that the next three days as well). Well, Daddy had already left the house headed for Walmart - so I called his cell phone and caught him at the store- while I waited for him to return I checked out Facebook...A good friend of mine and his father - both fell off the their roof yesterday! The father is fine but my friend broke his back! He is now at a bigger hospital than local and they are probably going to do surgery.

Now - after going to the hospital with Daddy - shot went well - Daddy's phone rang when we got into the house...it was my husband, his mother never made it to her hair appointment this morning. So after having a neighbor check and make sure she had left the house - she had - I went on her normal route and could not find her anywhere - this went on for three hours. She finally shows up at my husbands work - she had went to Walmart!!!!! arrrrgggghhhh

Now - after all this - the phone rings while I am typing this - it is my husband saying that his truck - blew out the transmission- lovely....

so I'll leave you there and I'm off to go get hubby

hope everyone else's day is going better than mine

oh - I did get my workout in!!!!!
