Snow again!

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

We got hit with another big storm today. I did not make it into work today. The road that I live on was almost impassable, and the major routes that I take to work were closed. The last time I measured, we were at 15 inches, and it was the last one that I was able to get before the snow started drifting. I shoveled for 3 hours today, trying to open up the porch, and get around the cars. I had to have my husband pull the tractor up so that I could fill the bucket with snow, because I could not lift the snow up anymore. The piles are above my head now that my hubby cleared the driveway.

I am sitting here listening to the wind howling, and to go out now is almost impossible. The wind is just whipping the snow around. Tomorrow is going to be another day of cleaning up. Wonder if I am going to make it into work again tomorrow. They still had not plowed our road at 8:30 this evening, there are ruts now in the road, but I do not feel comfortable enough driving my hubby's truck to risk it if it has not been plowed. I may end up working a double on Friday to make up for the people who had to stay today to work for me.

I will try to get pictures from this storm out tomorrow. Still want to take some more!

I am very tired from all the shoveling and walking around I did in the snow. Going to get into the jacuzzi and get ready for bed! Have a great night all!

I measured 15 while it was still snowing yesterday, and the dog kept barking at the wind last night. Glad I did some shoveling yesterday, but my garage is snowed in, and the car is in the garage! It will be several days till I get it all dug out!

Wow, I keep seeing on the news what these two storms are doing in the US northeast - hopefully this will be the last for you. Am looking forward to seeing the pics though. Wolf Blitzer went out on the balcony of the CNN Washington office at 5:00 p.m. tonight and there wasn't a car or a person to see anywhere - unusual for "rush hour" - I don't think you're the only person who stayed home!! Take Care - just think of the muscles you are building doing all that shovelling, but watch your back!!!

I can't wait to see your pictures!! Snow can be so pretty!! And yet so darn frustrating!! I am glad you chose the safe option when it came to driving!! Stay safe and warm!!

I keep dreaming about the beach and the feeling of the sun on my back!! Of course, slathered in SPF 5000!

I was at work last night when the snow started. By the time I was supposed to leave for home, there was about 4 inches of snow on the ground. Not too much, but I have a Saturn, not very good in the snow. So the guy relieving me for the night came in early and says it's not too bad out there, get home before it gets worse. I called my hubby, his cousin was just at our house to pick up his daughter, and said that the interstates weren't too bad, but once he got to the road to our house, he made the tracks. My hubby said if I could make it to the restuarant at the end of our road, he would come pick me up.

So I went back and forth for a while, should I just stay at work, or try to make it home. I decided to try to make it home. What a mistake! I did ok on the roads by work, I ended up behind a plow, which made driving not too bad. Wish I could have talked the plow into staying in front of me the whole way home! LOL! Then I got out to the interstate. Not too bad for most of the way home. There were tractor trailers on the road, and they were aggressive last night. One passed me on the right, and I am still trying to figure out how he did that! Then about 3 miles to my exit, I spun out. 180 degrees one way, then 180 degrees the other, and then 180 degrees back again. I got the car to stop, and was lucky enough not to cause an accident or hit anything, and stayed on the road. Got to my exit, and could feel the car slipping again. Didn't spin out again, but kept going slowly. Made it to the restaurant, and called my hubby and he came and got me. I kept telling him, I should have just stayed at work!

Got up this morning, and went and shoveled snow for 3 hours. I am feeling that now! Took a shower and got ready to come into work. I have my hubby's truck, which has 4 wheel drive, and what a difference. I was able to make it out the road I live on (it hadn't been plowed yet) without any trouble, and once I got to the interstate, they had it clear, it was just wet! PennDot did a great job on the interstates, just wish they could get to the secondary roads a little faster.

The storm dumped 15 inches at my house. The kids loved it. I will post snow pictures tomorrow if I get a chance. I still have to go and get my car from the restaurant parking lot. Hopefully we will be able to do that tomorrow.

Wow, spinning out like that must have been scary - glad you weren't in an accident because of it! 3 hrs. of snow shovelling - now that's exercise and probably some sore muscles as well. 15" of snow - Bobbi - you can keep it, sorry. We are so fortunate we didn't get a snowflurry - cold, but with son. Take Care driving!!!

I have a little 4 wheel drive Tracker, loveing the security it gives me in the snow. There is only about 8-10 inches at my house, and I just shoveled a wide path to the mailbox and one to the garage.......I can get through the back driveway at the garage with the 4 WD, should I have the need to go anywhere. I susre do NOT miss needing to get out to go to work,
Splash had a hoot in the snow, and tonight I don;t know which one of us is more tired!

Sunday Jan 31

Sunday, January 31, 2010

Wow, today was a very busy, active day for us. We got up this morning and went to church, then after church, we stopped at Arby's for lunch, then headed to the car show. We spent 3 and a half hours walking around and climbing in and out of cars. It was so much fun, and not a sales person to bother us. I was able to really look at some of the vehicles that I have been considering, and have taken a list of 40 vehicles, and now have narrowed it down to 7. I have not test driven any of these cars yet, I think that I will wait until August to do this, closer to the time when I am going to get my new car.

After coming home from the car show, we ate dinner and off to bowling I went. I did pretty good tonight, and our team took 3 games.

So I did not get to do a bootcamp workout for today, but since it was a cardio workout, I think I had that covered today!

Sounds like a great day. I am going to be looking for a new car soon also. But I am going to be looking at conversions or a mini van.
What did you eat at Arby's? I always have a hard time figuring them out

Bootcamp Day 28

Saturday, January 30, 2010

Whew! I did it!!!! I did the required videos everyday, and even managed to get some exercising, even the days that we did not have to do any. As I have said before, I have not seen a big difference on the scale, but the way my clothes are fitting from before the beginning of the month is proof enough for me that this works! Unfortunately, besides the scale, I did not take any before pictures or get any measurements. I am going to do this again for the next 4 weeks, following the same videos, this time getting a before picture, and measurements.

I even got a chance to go out shopping today, what a frustrating event that was. I am between a medium and large pant size, and ended up getting nothing. The large pants were too baggy and didn't look right, and the medium were just a little too tight. Why is it that everytime I go shopping for clothes, I am in between sizes? Oh well, even more incentive for me to do this again next month. Maybe when I go out next month, I will fit comfortably in the medium pants!

I like what you all are talking about with the 10 minutes a day working out. I see a personal trainer 2x per week, but between those days, I find it hard to get motivated. But I know I can do 10 minutes. I need to drop 35 pounds to feel better, so I will work on the consistency that Bobbi has had. Way to go, Bobbi!

emoticon on accomplishing your goal. I too completed the work out. I have actually been workout for 34 days straight. That is my goal to do at least 10 minutes of exercise a day.

That's one of the things that inspired me from reading the book, how Chris committed to doing 10 minutes exercise a day. When I first heard that when I joined SparkPeople back in 2008, I couldn't quite wrap my brain around that. But after reading his story, I decided to try it. It has been 34 days and yes I feel a difference in my body, also.

Thanks for the idea to keep going with the bootcamp. However, I think I will redo one of the other bootcamps I did last year. The best to you.

Way to go, woman, and I love that your shopping frustration is egging you to continue on, not stall in frustration! You must be feeling a positive difference if you feel ready to continue on for another 4 weeks. I hope you feel amazing, and see those lbs start to drop soon. You know your metabolism is shifting into overdrive!
