Kicking up the strength training ! !

Thursday, August 13, 2009

Hey everyone it has been awhile since I blogged but I am still on my journey to getting healthy.

I am one of those people who enjoy strength training. A long long time ago I date a man who was a personal trainer and he introduced me to the weights. (I feel in love, with the weights that is LOL LOL)
I use to work out at the gym with him all the time and he would have me lifting weights like he would. For awhile there I was really buffed, but not a good buffed. I got to a point where I could not put my arms down and my chest was very hard. It was very uncomfortable but I felt strong. Well I stop the weight training then the rest is history. I was in a motor cycle accident and had broken my clavicle, fractured my shoulder blade, and yes a bunched of ribs.

After that I would just dabble with the weights but with this new journey I am on, I am back with the weights. I started lifting 10 - 15 lbs but it didn't feel like it was doing much. So I continued to add more and more weights.

So now I am lifting anywhere from 75lbs on the chest press to 112lbs on the rowing machine. I am excited because I would start the strength and only do it a day or two then I would be crying to my sister that my (old broken) bones hurt.

With this new healthy life style I am not having that problem anymore. I am doing higher levels on the ETD, lifting more weights eating better and enjoying many things I haven't in a long time. Once in a while the old broken ankle still hurts but I just keep trucking on.

So guys wish me luck on my new direction on my journey. I want to get strong enough to do a marathon, not sure how far but I know I want to complete one.

Spark on....... emoticon

    Wow, that's great.

Weights scare me a little bit. My muscles build up really fast, which, at my current size, doesn't help -- I can't find shirts that will fit my arms properly!

Keep up the good work!

I think that it is truly amazing what you're doing--I'm still in the beginner stages of strength training as I was always under the impression that you first had to lose the "fat" by cardio (so I've been killing myself on the treadmill) BEFORE doing weights...maybe I can incorporate strength training and see results quicker? P.S. Keep up the GREAT work!

My first "Run The Gates"

Sunday, June 07, 2009

Hello everyone,

I competed in a thing called "Run the gates". It is a five mile course with a bunch of hills set up in two sections of a town called Levittown in Pa. (Snowball gate and Forsythia Gate). It benefits four agencies that provide service to adults and children with disabilities. (4 for the future) I did a Wog (walk Jog walk).

It took me 1 hour and 33 minutes to do it. I think it took so long to do the five miles, because someone put a bunch of hills in the way LOL LOL.

About 4 1/2 miles into it I was all alone on the course and I started thinking OMG what have I gotten myself into. I rounded the final curve and I could hear the music playing from the finish line, then I saw one of the helpers out on the road and he said "you can do it", you're almost there.

As I was doing the Wog there were people sitting out on their lawns giving out water, spraying the runners with water or just cheering you on.

I am looking forward in doing it again next year, hopefully I can do it faster and have the company of my sister Dottie. Dottie was kind enough to stay with one of the young ladies and walk with her while I pushed myself to finish the course.

Until my next adventure

Weigh in Day! ! !

Tuesday, May 26, 2009

Hello everyone,
Today was weigh in day and I lost 1.5 lbs. I am surprised due to all the little indulgents I did over the holiday weekend, I did manage to stay in my calorie range except for one day I went over about a 100 calories.

Today back on track with my work outs. I am going to the gym today and doing some of my missed weight training, and of course the ETD. When the weather gets nice I will be back out riding my bike or walking in the park.

On another surprising note I took clothes out of my closet and NONE of them fit. They are all too BIG ... Too BIG not too tight anymore WOOHOO.. So you know what that means I have to go shopping and I hate shopping.

Until the next weigh in

Wish me luck.

1.5 more pounds - GONE FOR GOOD!

Isn't it great fun to try on clothes and have them not fit because THEY'RE TOO BIG! Gotta love that!!!

Keep up the great work, Meliss!

Love,
Kath
