As I continue this weight loss journey I made a promise to myself when I turn 50 I wanted to do a half marathon.

I had planned on completing that in April but was unable to because on my 50th birthday I slipped on ice in the parking lot at my job. well that landed me in a cast for 13 1/2 weeks ( torn/sprained and strained ligaments in my ankle/ foot) well that didn't leave me enough time to train for the April dead line.

After I was released from workers Comp I started training because I was determined to accomplish this goal.

I found a half marathon locally Penny Pack Park (Philadelphia)That was October 26th 2014 that gave me enough time.

I continued to train had a little bump in the road with my 87 yo mother but continued training.

Every time I would get to the 11 mile maker I would start in my head

I can't do this I can't do this. But I would push through. I would finish around 2 hrs 50 minutes.

So here it was race day weather was great lots of people ,fun music and I thought to myself what the heck was I getting myself in to. My goal was to finish in 3 hours

well to my surprise I met a nice group of people on the path that were fun and they helped me with my pace.

I am proud to say I finish ALL 13.1 miles in 2 hrs 31 minutes













I have learned never to say I CAN"T

UPDATE

Well Sparkers, I know I have been MIA for a bit, but I haven't neglected my body. I have been eating healthy, I've been working out as much as I can. But there was a little wrench thrown in my program.

June 3rd my 87 y/o mother fell and broke her hip/femur. She was hospitalized and had surgery to repair it. After surgery she went in to a rehab and progressed very well. She did so well she was released after 20 days. well 2 days before she was released mom didn't feel well, she ended up with a STAPH infection that landed her back in the hospital. While in the hospital she needed a second surgery to remove the infection and the infected skin. She was on high doses of antibiotics for another week.

Well it is July 8th and she has been released to come home. She is doing fabulous you would never know she broke her hip.

Now I can get back into my normal routine Thank goodness all is well

A little awkward at first!

For the past few weeks I have been extremely busy with work, school, getting in my work outs and just regular family/house stuff. I noticed I've been eating very fast lately, Not something I normally do. I was reading an article, (can't remember where or by who)

The doctor recommend to eat with the opposite hand he said it makes it feel awkward slows you down lets you enjoy your meal and helps you to not over eat.

Gave it a try and yes it slowed me down and it did feel little awkward and I noticed that I didn't finish all my meals

    That's never worked for me! My fast eating has a lot to do with my dad. Yes I can legitimately blame him. I still can remember the family being out to eat and him finishing first and demanding everyone hurry up because he was ready to go!

For months and months I have been on the straight and narrow eating very healthy, drinking all my water. I have been exercising faithfully at least 4 times a week training for a half marathon 3/30/2014.

and I enjoyed ALL 210 calories Ok back to the grind tomorrow! ! !

    You can incorporate these things in your diet if you make sure you keep within your calorie range. Glad you are not beating yourself up and just moving on!!
