It's been a while!

Friday, October 11, 2013

Hi!!

It seems like it's been forever since I've been on here!
This summer has zoomed by, and December is right around the corner. (Have you noticed in stores there's already Christmas merchandise out? It's crazy!)

Anyways, my friend gave me the idea of starting a blog, to post book reviews and such, I also want it to be an extension of my sparkpage.
I think it's taking me a while to get started because I have no clue what to name it!
I'm not a creative person, so I was wondering if you guys could help me come up with a cool name.
Should I just name it after my sparkpage? (WhyWeight552)
or I was thinking -Blog a Book
lol
but that makes it seem like it's just for books.
I think my blog will be a little bit of everything.
Any ideas would be so great thanks so much for your time and help!!

~Renee

Memorial Day Race

Monday, May 27, 2013

Happy Memorial Day!

No I didn't compete in a memorial day race, but I did get to watch on the sidelines before the parade began.

And let me just say it was so cool seeing people of all ages in the race- young, old, middle-aged, really little.
It was so inspiring to see them running!!
Plus it was a gorgeous sunny day outside.

emoticon

I was like, I have to do this next year!
I also want to walk in our thanksgiving race this year as well
I have always wanted to be in a race and I think it's about time I actually be in one instead of continually saying I want to be in one.

5Ks here I come!

How about you guys?
Have you ever been in a race?
How was it?

Doctors and Weight

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

Here's a cool thing I learned today from my doctor's appointment: even doctors struggle with their weight!!!!

Let me explain.
So last summer I had a follow up doctor's appointment and I lost weight, and my doctor did also! I asked how he did it and he said he cut out his late night snacks-he lost 20 pounds.

Fast forward to today.
It was my 4 month follow up appointment from January, and I lost a couple of pounds (the best part was that my doctor said to focus on the positives- it's better than gaining weight!)
I was just telling my doctor that this weight thing seems to be a never ending cycle for me-up and down, doing good one day and then bad the next.

He told me that it was the same for him!!
He lost those 20 pounds, then winter came so he didn't run/jog outside as much and stress arrived so the weight kind of slid
but now he said he's back on track

I love that because it shows that this weight loss thing really is a struggle-even for doctors so we can relate to that.

One thing he taught me was to find out your problem areas, and work on them.
For me it's soda- so he said to change from regular soda and 'drink all the diet soda you want'

He said at first it's hard, but then it becomes a habit and then you realize 'it's not that bad'

there's sooooo much weight loss advice out there-it can be overwhelming! (I say that a lot)

It's really finding out what works for you
and that leads me to another thing

my grandpa thinks that I need to go to weight watchers meetings to lose weight (sorry if I mentioned that before)
I'm like, I don't think so!
I did this before-on my own
he can just teach me what he learns in the meetings and I can look at the booklets he gets every week
I mean I understand where he's coming from- the whole accountability factor and counting points, but I just don't want to pay money for that when there's sparkpeople for freeeeeee!
I'm telling you I just have to take more advantage of this site

btw, how do people lose 100+ pounds in less than two years????
it's amazing!!!

So...
let's start focusing on the positives!

It's nice to have doctors that understand. I have way too many that don't. They say eat healthier, exercise it will come off. For years I struggled with so much stress, and no time for me, all I could do is eat healthy and keep up with the kids. I would lose 10 pounds just to gain in back within 2 weeks. They told me I wasn't doing it right. Way to go for you. You can do it, just believe in yourself. Be persistent. *HUGS*

As a Dr, i can tell you we are always wondering why people think we have some magic quick fix. If I did, do you think I'd be overweight/obese? It's work and I refer lots of patients to Spark ( i like free). Great job on your weight loss!

thank you so much for all your wonderful comments and support!
I do have a great doctor he's super understanding and helpful!
and I know he's human of course, but I guess it's easy to expect people like doctors and such to not have struggles with their weight because of their profession but it's true that it's a struggle that we can all work out!

There are many people that struggle with weight who are in the medical profession. Knowledge is nothing without putting it to good use. Congrats on your weight loss! Cutting out soda is a must, it is poison, the diet version is full of chemicals.

I am an Intensive Care Unit/Recovery Room Nurse, so I am surrounded by MDs every day at work. Some I even count as good friends. I can assure you with 100% certainty the doctors have the same weaknesses and temptations as the rest of us. Many just do not want to show weakness or vulnerability. It was really good that your Doctor shared his struggles with you in order to help you.

One of the main reasons why I joined sparkpeople and not weightwatchers - it's freeee!

Also I think weightwatchers is complicating things with points - calories are on every packet there is, pro points will not - so I'd rather count calories.

I love it when you have support and help from your doctor. Mine encourages me. Like you I don't see paying for something when you can get it free and this program gives me more things than I ever dreamed of. Little changes like given up soda or trading it for diet can make a big difference . Hooray for you.

You are so right! I've done weight watchers and it really isn't any different than this overall. However, this is better because you aren't constantly looking for low point foods light on WW. I eat healthier foods because I am not worried about their points.

What a blessing to have a supportive doc. There's nothing like going to a doc that advises weight loss when that person is clearly having a problem. Of course I won't judge as to why. It's the principal.

I agree, that we all have to find what works for us. What I fight every day is to be consistent with it. If you are only consistent 5 days a week and not 7 you will not move very fa from the weight you are. That's my struggle.

Great blog, thanks for sharing

Hmmm, what keeps me motivated. Well, I used to be 230 lbs and now I'm about 60 lbs lighter. So whenever I don't want to get up and exercise I just think or say " You can never go back " meaning, I will never be that weight again. This gets me out of bed. You just have to keep moving forward!

Also, I stay motivated by trying new things such as new activities (hiking/swimming) or new foods. Sometimes I'll buy a magazine with a low calorie menu plan in it and follow it for a week. This way I'm trying new foods and not getting in a rut.

Long term weight loss is so hard! I've been trying to lose the last 20-25 lbs for the last 5 years. :( Sometimes you are up and sometimes you are down. (either in weight or in spirits!) You just have to keep going!

Can you cut out some pictures that are motivating to put in there too? I'm a visual person, so a picture can really speak to me. If I see a photo or picture of someone about my height, size, age and build who weighs my goal weight, a simple photo can give me that BOOST to stop with the bad habits and to press on! Of course you can always find more than one photo or magazine picture.
There's my tip of the day to you!

I probably have seen 10 MILLION weight loss stories a day (obviously exaggeration lol) because they def. keep me going. When I don't wanna work out or when I'm dying of "hunger" lol I'll look up weight loss success videos on YT to see and hear about people's transformations and I'll look at the success stories on Spark People and it just makes me feel good about myself and this journey that I'm on. So keep doing that.. I def. will because it works for me :-)

Also another good motivational tip is if you don't feel like working out.. put on your workout clothes anyhow. It pretty much always works to get me to do a workout because I feel like I'm already half way there :-)

Counselors get paid to tell clients to do self talk- which is affirmations as if you already lost the weight .... journey lifestyle statements made in your own voice recorded,,,

is actually perfect... to literally listen to the sound of your own voice saying what the new you would say to the old/current you

excellent emoticon please do it
