Ignorance is not bliss

especially when it comes to eating fast food
and the past two days, I have
and I'm going to be completely honest with you and tell you what I ate and how many calories I ate just from that fast food and let me tell you, it's not good!

I'd always eat fast food and not even think about what I was choosing. If there was a choice, like if someone was buying it for me then why not get a large of everything?? I didn't care, I just wanted fast food because it's cheap and good.

Here's what I ate at Wendy's yesterday:
10 pc spicy nugget: 470 cals, 31 g fat
Large fry: 530 cals, 25 g fat
Large Chocolate frosty (why do they have to be SO good?!?!) 600 cals (!) 16 g fat
Total: 1,600 cals and 72 g fat
that's pretty much all my calories in one sitting plus about 3 day's worth of fat grams!!

and today at Burger King:

Spicy Chicken sandwich: 460 cals and 29g fat
Medium fry: 410 cals and 18 g fat
Oreo Sundae: 440 cals and 12 g fat
Total: 1,310 cals and 59 g fat!

Looking up this information was a total eye opener!
I think I just have to stay away from fast food altogether because it's not doing me any favors and plus I'm eating too much and on top of that for some reason eating fast food makes me want to eat even more junk food when I come home, it's crazy!

And this is not an excuse, but for both times I ate those meals I was really hungry, so lesson learned: when I'm hungry I must stay away from fast food and pack and eat healthy snacks, or make better choices at these places if anything.

Good bye fast food and hello to making better choices from now on!

emoticon hi healthy choices, how are ya? it's nice to meet you!

Good for you to be brave and look at the numbers. Planning ahead is key. Maybe get excited about "shopping online for the healthy meals and snacks you can get excited about. Then go to the store and buy it. Prepare things to get into snack size ziploc bags so all you have to do is grab it out. If you are already hungry and faced with having to prepare it, it may knock your resolve down.

The more you eat healthy, the more you want it. Your tastes will truly change! emoticon

Today I

Monday, March 11, 2013

wanted to come home and pig out on UTZ BBQ chips
I was thinking about it at school
I came home and went upstairs and thought it over
and then I went downstairs to the kitchen
I had me a nice bowl of spinach salad with some lite Italian dressing- and it was good!!
Progress is being made, even by one simple choice!

emoticon you know you want those chips
emoticon eat the salad, it's good for you and tasty too!

Today I listened to the little angel on my shoulder

What's in a name?

All right I thought I'd share what my username means
I wanted to come up with something meaningful
when I was on sparkteens, my username was 'TBLlover429'
standing for 'The Biggest Loser lover'
I mean, I do like The Biggest Loser!
But my username 'WhyWeight552'
why weight (like why do I have to be overweight? Sometimes I wish God made us all with fast metabolisms! lol but I know it's all on me for my weight problems)
but also
why wait?
why wait for a right time to lose weight?
and the 552 number stands for a Bible verse from Isaiah:

Isaiah 55:2

New Living Translation (NLT)

2 Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength?
Why pay for food that does you no good?
Listen to me, and you will eat what is good.
You will enjoy the finest food.
(taken from http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?searc

I like the part that says "why pay for food that does you no good?"
it's so true!
why do I pay for fast/junk food that's only going to make me feel worse and get me fatter and make me tired and unhealthy??
or why spend my money on food that won't give me strength?
but the second part says to 'Listen to me'
listen to the Lord, and by that reading His Word
that's what's so awesome about the Bible because it has everything!!!!!
I recommend reading it :)
also read the whole passage of Isaiah 55, it's pretty cool!
I plan on posting this verse in my room to keep encouraging me; I hope it encourages you too!

emoticon emoticon emoticon healthy food gives us strength!

There is a documentary on YouTube on obesity where they take a very slim woman and her very fat friend and the fat friend is SURE she has a slow metabolism and her slim friend can eat everything she wants and that is why she doesn't gain weight. They test ALL of their urine and fecal matter for a week in a top lab and what they find is that the obese woman actually has a HIGHER metabolism than her friend, but that the slim woman really doesn't eat near as much as the fat woman, who apparently ate at home at night where the slim woman at a lunch they had together stopped after having half of the LARGE sandwich and didn't finish the rest. The slim woman ate like that all the time.
So, the documentary was really interesting.
On youTube is "THE MEN WHO MADE US FAT" and that is a really good one to watch. Not the same as the first one but has LOTS of good information.

Hmmm . . . I enjoy going walking, but usually I like it a lot better if I have someone to walk with. I would enjoy knocking a tennis ball back and forth. Because, I'm not very good at it, I wouldn't call it tennis. lol I'm sure there would be a lot of other things I would enjoy, but I have to be very frugal right now. I'd love to know what I can do with a little one in tow. If he goes walking with me, there are a lot of stops because he is not interested in walking. Last week, the kids and I grabbed a small ball and kicked it around outside. We would see who could run up to it first. First one to the ball got to kick it as far as they could. It was an excuse to run around and a little fun competition.

I wish I could see that series, but we shut off our satellite. I'm glad actually. We do have channels that we can pick up with an antennae. We have been watching a lot less tv and that is cool by me. I do miss the History Channel and others like it, though.

You live, you learn

Friday, March 01, 2013

This is just a random thought that popped in my head but you know when you look at weight loss success stories of people (particularly those who lost a lot of weight) you wonder: "how did they do it? how did they get there?"
because they always looks so amazing in their "after" pictures!

But it always boils down to one thing: eating less and moving more.
How simple!

But here's what I learned from when I was losing weight:
when you eat less and exercise more, you lose weight

when you eat more and don't exercise, you'll gain weight

I know, I'm repeating stuff that we've heard our whole lives
but that's it
and it seems so simple when typing it
but then you realize
there's a heck of a lot more to weight loss than people realize!
like staying motivated, or planning, or consciously deciding what you're going to eat
it's a whole lot of mental- is it all psychological??
I don't know
I overthink too much sometimes

But of course there's more to everyone's weight loss journeys
so here's more about what worked for me:
setting small weekly goals (and accomplishing them!)
thinking positive thoughts, like "I've got this!" and "I can do this!" and "I'm on the right track!"
weighing myself every two weeks (there's something about seeing the numbers going down on the scale)
trying new foods and recipes (it's fun!)
not eating fast food so much, but when doing so choosing healthier foods
drinking water and only water!
also initially cutting out pizza, reese's, and coke altogether (I felt so accomplished!)
journaling- my food, when I exercised, what I did because when you look back you can see how much you've grown and changed, and it makes you feel good about yourself
walking and then jogging and even going for bike rides
also just realizing that this was a journey- it wasn't going to happen overnight and it would take time

I know, it's like "well if you did that then why aren't you now?"
I could use my own advice! lol

I just started overeating and not exercising and then BAM all the weight piled back on and then some more and I just blew it- blew everything (sorry I know I've said this stuff before)

but here's what I'm going to do differently- really get into this journey
taking before pictures, making videos, journaling, posting inspirational quotes and pictures in my room, getting more involved with all that Sparkpeople has to offer- and it offers a lot!

Because when you live, you learn
