Unfortunate Gain.

Thursday, July 19, 2012

Well, I weighed in today at 148.0 lb. I am up 3 lb. from my low weight since starting this challenge, at 145.0.

I read a good book last night that really put things into perspective. I am not going to let this get me down! I fell, but I AM getting back up today. Dusting myself off, and starting over.

I wanted to tell on myself for accountability's sake. So, now you know. This is the last time I will go that far up in the wrong direction! I will be back at 145 in no time.

Let's hope the 3 pounds can just be a natural part of your rhythm and/or some muscle gain?

Day 25-26/51 - Food and Fitness Blog/Revisiting my Goals.

Monday, July 16, 2012

I am not going to get into why this weekend wasn't great, but it had much to do with yesterday and the most-of-a-large-pizza-eating contest that I threw for myself. I never eat this much pizza. I was sick from it. I wanted to throw it up, sick.

In other news, I am now over HALFWAY toward the trip in August. I have a mere 25 days, including today, to fit into the infamous dress. I haven't tried it on since I have lost the 8-9 lb. yet, but I know it doesn't fit. Especially since I am now back up to 137.5 from last night's pizza fiasco.

Saturday we went out to eat and I ordered a salad, thinking I was being good. What came to the table? A monster salad with half a pound of chicken and at least 1 cup of shredded cheese, if not more. I ate half. Used some regular ranch, but not much. The good part? I tracked it all to the best of my ability and was at 1, 445 calories for the day. Not too bad. I was maintaining at 145-ish and now I have blown it.

What does this mean? I am going to revisit my goals to remind me of why I need to rededicate myself toward this challenge. I am halfway done and I am not where I want or need to be.

July Goals for Days 27-51:
- Keep drinking 2 ViSalus shakes per day, and eat one SENSIBLE meal for dinner
- Stick to my calorie ranges rigorously
- Drink plenty of emoticon
- Weigh myself daily to make sure I am staying on track
- Try on the dress again on day 50 and see if I can even wear it
- Exercise daily, even if it's only for 20 minutes, it's better than nothing! emoticon
- Get to my goal weight for the wedding.

So, what is my goal weight now? I know I will be back to 145 from the weekend pizza-binge soon, like, within 3 days at least if not less than that. I didn't really eat 10,000 calories to gain a literal 2.5 lb. So say I am at 145 by day 28, I still have 23 days to stick to my diet rigorously. That's a bit over 3 weeks. At 2-3 lb. per week, I can reach 138 lb.! I am pretty sure I fit into that dress at that weight or a few lb. less than that. I do hope I can squeeze into it!

On that note, I am going to take a nice walk to get some exercise in. Today is a new day! The weekend is over, and it's back to work I go.

Isn't it crazy once we realize just how much we gain from the junk! I had this same problem over the weekend of my graduation party (and the week that followed because of left overs!) You are determined so just keep at it and it will all fall away again. Don't beat yourself up too badly.

Ok, let's shift the focus for a minute. Try looking at the strength training and cardio exercise as a way of reaching a "size" goal, instead of a "weight" goal. Keep drinking your water and make sure you're getting enough calories so you don't cause your metabolism to grind to a halt. (meaning, don't cut calories to compensate and account for your exercise on your fitness goals so your calorie range is accurate).

Exercise and staying in calorie range is going to get you where you wanna be. You might also take measurements now so you can see some non-scale victories. Fitting into that dress is more important than weighing a certain weight.

Day 24/51 - Food and Fitness Blog.

Saturday, July 14, 2012

I did OK with food yesterday, but for dinner, I ate a Big Mac. Now, I thought it was the healthier of the sandwiches, but oh no! I was wrong, big time. It is one of the worst. I would have been better off ordering the quarter pounder with cheese. I let myself get too hungry at work and therefore, I spontaneously ordered it. I have never had one before, and it tasted SO GOOD. It seemed worth it at the time. It did, however, put me over my sodium for the day (my goal is to be under 1, 500 mg) slightly, and on the upper end of my calorie range. To top it off, I went over to my mom's and she handed me a Mike's Hard Cranberry Lemonade, which is 220 calories! If not for that, I'd have said it was a good day. I drank it, but I didn't even want it. I am over alcohol. It isn't worth it, really. I may take a cue from HELLO118 and start drinking Bud 55 calorie or some other light beer ON OCCASION.

ViSalus shake with 1 c. strawberries
1 cup milk, skim
Banana Energy Charge health mix-in

ViSalus shake with 1 cup strawberries
1 cup skim milk
Orange Everyday Defense health mix-in

.5 oz muenster cheese
1 sargento light string cheese
.33 oz. walnut halves
1 cup strawberries, sliced

Total Calories - 1, 448
Carbohydrates - 164 g
Fat - 48 g
Protein - 79 g

emoticonExercise: I got up last night around 8:40 PM and decided I needed to break my no-exercise streak. I walked 40 minutes, 2.15 miles at 3.2 mph. I pushed myself to go farther than I normally do outside, since it was cool for once.

All in all, not too bad. I woke up hungry and slept terribly. To my credit, I didn't eat the top bun of the 3 pieces of bread of the Big Mac. My mood today is tired, but hopeful...I know I will be OK as long as I *just keep trying.*

    Hey Whitney!

Guess what the important thing is that you learned? You know now not to let yourself get that hungry. I would suggest putting some almonds or an apple in your purse. If you're hungry before dinner time, fending it off with something healthy will also aid in your making better choices out.

As far as the alcohol goes, it's too easy to say yes. This is exactly why I started drinking a light beer. I can easily include that in my day without going overboard. I know you'll figure out what works for you. I mean, the other night, you ate at Red Lobster and did so well with one glass of wine. Yesterday was an off day, today is a new one! emoticon

P.S. Great job with the exercise! :)

Today is a brand new day. Yesterday is behind you forever.

I think your exercise yesterday is just what you needed. Exercise helps me clear my mind and be able to see everything in a more positive light

I know what you mean about alcohol. I put it in the same category as soft drinks--Yeah, that drink would be really nice, but I'd so much rather have a ________________ with those calories. Have a great weekend Whitney!

Day 23/51 - Food and Fitness Blog.

Friday, July 13, 2012

ViSalus shake with 1 cup strawberries
Banana Energy Charge health mix-in
1 cup skim milk

6 almonds (1/4 oz)

ViSalus shake with 1 cup strawberries
Orange Everyday Defense health mix-in
1 cup skim milk

Sargento light string cheese
Quaker Weight Control oatmeal, Banana Bread flavor

Red Lobster "Create your own Feast"
- Garden salad with 1/2 serving red wine vinaigrette (light)
- Steamed broccoli
- Steamed snow crab legs
- Wood-grilled fresh salmon
- 1 small glass of chardonnay

Total calories - 1, 239
Carbohydrates - 119 g
Fat - 26 g
Protein - 60 g (it was more like 100 g, but the nutritional info. from Red Lobster only looked at calories, carbs, and fat, not protein when I looked the info. up)

Pretty good! I am going to say really good because, for me, it is really hard to resist anything when going out to eat. I normally think, "Well, I haven't been here in so long..." or "We don't go out to eat THAT much, so I can splurge." In all honesty, we do go out to eat more than we should. We hadn't gone out for a while, and then we started eating out all the time. It is really hard to be healthy when eating out all the time! I didn't even want to go out, but since I got a gift card to Red Lobster for my birthday last month, I said "OK."

We ended up having a nice time, and it was the best meal I've had there in a long time. All in all, a good day!

I have also tried to cut back on eating out. I did really well for several months. Gradually, I'm eating out more and more. I don't really trust the calorie estimates. There is too much variability in the preparation. Also, so much sodium in most restaurant food. I agree with you. There's so much temptation to eat out of plan.

Your choices at RL were great! You definitely deserve your birthday treat!

Making Healthy Choices.

Thursday, July 12, 2012

We went out to eat tonight. Usually this derails me completely, and it was Red Lobster. Luckily, I detoured my husband from Golden Corral - there aren't many healthy options (besides salad) there at all.

I opted for the "Create Your Own Feast," and chose the wood fire-grilled salmon and snow crab legs, steamed broccoli, and a garden salad with light red wine vinaigrette. I did have a small glass of wine, but I chose the lower-sugar chardonnay instead of my go-to moscato.

I really enjoyed my dinner. I ended the meal without eating any of those damn "Cheddar Bay Biscuits" that are horrendously bad for you. and without tasting the butter-and-cream sauce my husband tried to force upon me. I drank two big glasses of water, too.

All in all, I had a good time and didn't blow my diet! Calories consumed today after this Red Lobster feast? 1, 239. Not too shabby, if I do say so myself!
