I finally beat through the plateau I've been struggling with for nearly a week! I am at 139.5 lb. this morning!
I am so happy. I hope this will be the start of a nice, downward trend. I had actually gained a pound since I was 140.5, so I went back to 141.5 and stayed there for several days. I am now 139.5 lb and I feel so good. I strayed on Atkins when I was sick, hoping the carbs would soak up the sickness! But that didn't work, plus it stalled my weight loss.
This IS going to be more like me this summer! This time feels different.

Well, I am back on track with Atkins. I feel all better from my recent bout with the flu. I even feel up to exercising today! I have had several days off from work, and I feel rejuvenated!
I went out to dinner last night and managed to avoid the plate of bacon cheese fries (and I have had them before - they are so darn good) and other fried things (think: onion rings and cheese sticks). I had a burger with no bun, with cheese, and a nice sized salad with 2 tbsp. ranch and a sprinkling of cheese. I mashed my burger onto some napkins to sop up most of the grease. My husband ate one with the bun, but it looked like a dang waterfall coming out when he cut it in half. Grease burger! It tasted good, though!
It was really easy to eat out on Atkins. That is so great! I also seem to stay within my calorie ranges, despite what I am eating!
I had a dream that I ate two cloves of garlic, raw and cut up. I woke up and taste garlic. The burger taste is still here! Yuck. I have brushed my teeth twice since I ate it. At any rate, I think I may opt for a chicken salad next time.

Well, I haven't made a blog entry in several days. I have had some kind of stomach flu (yay, it was amazing). It has been horrible! I went off Atkins a bit, like eating 80 carbs for the past two days, and now I am better today. I am back on induction. I didn't gain weight, even though I had a milkshake yesterday. I was so sick yesterday, I was afraid to eat anything! Luckily, after about 9 pm last night, I am seemingly better. I will see what happens when I eat solid food.
I have some time off work, so that is good. I don't have to work until Thursday. I really needed the time off - I have had this flu thing since last Thursday, and I worked during a couple days of it and it was terrible.
Well, that's all I got! Have a great week, everyone.

This is day 5 of Atkins for me. So far, it is still going great! I beat my 4 day limit on sticking to a diet. I have officially entered into day 5, baby! I haven't strayed in this period, and that is a personal record for me for the last several years.
I am trying to up my fiber intake each day by including higher fiber veggies. I am eating more fresh veggies than I ever do! I realize I was getting all my fiber from grains -whole grains, but still, grains! I was struggling to get even 5 grams in the first couple of days. I am up to 10 grams now just from 2 or 3 cups of fresh veggies. I read more online and, apparently, after the 1992 book I have, there were two more and now the followers of Atkins are counting "net carbs" instead of straight out carbohydrates. I can subtract the fiber and end eating more than 20 carbs per day, as long as the "net carbs" are 20 or less.
Only 9 more days of "Induction" left. I am already down 5 lb! I am officially back to my original highest weight! Hah, but seriously. I started the 5% Challenge at 146.5 (and just weeks before, 149) and I couldn't shake it all this time. Now, PRESTO! 5 days later, 5 pounds lighter! YAY!
Oh, also, yesterday was officially my 2 week anniversary of quitting smoking 100%!

Starting on March 17th, the first week of the 5% Challenge has come to an end. Today is the start of week one. Things I have learned over the past week...
I CAN stick to my diet! I thought, after so many attempts and failures, that I was almost a lost cause. Then, I started my new job and found "Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution" book in the break room last weekend. I have successfully completed 3 days and have embarked on the fourth without straying off the diet. I have also somehow found the energy to walk every day, despite having felt so tired from work before this week.
I CAN lose weight! I am down 4.5 lb. so far, and this is only day 4. I have lost 7 lb. since reaching my highest weight not too long ago.
I AM changing my habits! I feel my resistence muscles strengthening. I am resisting the peanut butter cookies I made for my husband (not hard, I don't like cookies), the Nickle's donut twirls that are sitting in the kitchen (I hate donuts, but these things are like the crack of donuts and the exception to my rule of donut-loathing), and the carb-laden foods in the pantry. I am eating more vegetables than ever!
I am not going hog-wild on bacon and whatnot, but I am certainly eating whatever I want, when I want, according the the rules of the diet. I am concerned about the egg cholesterol and whatnot, but I plan on returning to the doctor to get my blood drawn at the conclusion of this diet to see what kind of impact the increased fat has had on my cholesterol and other measured aspects. I have a poor result to compare it to. Despite my relatively "healthy" eating all of these years, I have followed the standard lower fat, higher-carb form of dieting for my whole life, and how has it worked for me? This is the first time I have really committed to a low-carb way of life. I tried South Beach for like a day or so, and couldn't do it. I have passed my usual fail-point, and I am so motivated about it!
I am rethinking my goals for weight loss. Dr. Atkins wrote in the book that the "ideal" weight goals for someone my height and frame are less than I considered attainable. But now, having tasted initial success and feeling more motivated than ever, I feel like I can really attempt to reach a goal from a past weight that I know I looked good at, and with my smaller frame, I should be able to be comfortable at. I will see how this progresses, but I am reaching for the stars! Or, the (Starfish, my Spark challenge team!).
Another benefit of this diet and my new job are that I have eliminated alcohol easily. I have been so busy and also now, alcohol is not even ok in moderation on Atkins, and I don't even miss it! I have been drinking a TON of water, and I feel so much better!
Wish me luck and continued success, and good luck to you all on your healthy endeavors
