Week 12- A Real Baby and Belly Shots

Friday, January 21, 2011

Happy Friday All!

I have to say that after the terrible week I had today has been a breath of fresh air. I found out some terrible stuff about my family's past this week which has truly shaken me to the core. Basically for the past week I have had trouble sleeping, eating and just getting on with my normal life because my mind has been consumed with this other stuff. Being miserable because of the family stuff made me realize how unhappy I am in other parts of my life as well. Nothing that can't be changed but just frustrating to take a look at your life and realize it's too short to spend time so unhappy. I am moving forward though and think I will be able to make some changes soon that will improve my outlook!

Today started great though which is why I am so much happier. Firstly the snow that they called for did not come! Thank goodness, I don't know about all of you but in Baltimore people can not drive in the snow. Not that I am being snobby but I didn't grow up here, I grew up in Pittsburgh where we get much more snow. Not only do we get more snow but they clean it up so much faster. Anyway so no snow which was nice, meant the commute was easy and in general no one was fussy. It also meant I could wear cute clothes and not ugly snow boots! Not only did we not get snow but Tom and I had a follow up appointment to get an ultrasound this morning. Since I had a subchorionic hematoma early on which caused spotting they wanted to make sure that everything has since healed up. It has thank goodness! This morning we got to see our little SweetPea. I know I can't be the only woman out there that thought for sure there wouldn't be anything in there. That's been one of the biggest struggles I have had with being pregnant. I don't look or feel too pregnant so I always doubt that I am. Weird right? I can't be the only woman though because I read in all these books that self doubt and feeling of unrealness is common. Regardless we saw a real baby in there this morning. Not just an egg sac like we saw last ultrasound. How different it is to see a human head and hands and legs. Wow and we are still early. I can't wait till further ultrasounds when they are so much detailed. Baby looks good and was even moving around for us. In one of the pictures it looks like they are sucking their thumb! So cute.

Pregnancy is good so I can't complain too much, especially since morning sickness has almost completely ended. I have been getting headaches on and off but not too severe that it's worth complaining about. My only other symptom is cravings. Right now all I want is SUGAR. Seriously I have been with Tom for 7 years and in all those years never did I have a Slurpee but now I can't get enough. He thinks it's funny and weird but I think it's annoying. I miss healthy veggies and fruits but all I want to eat is Skittles and Slurpees! Blah

Other than the ultrasound life has been quiet. Home renovations are still going on. Tom is painting and looking at flooring and all that jazz. Basically I pick out paint colors and furniture and that's it. Pretty boring on my end but I'm not complaining. A girlfriend of mine from college is also pregnant and due a month before us. She and I have been comparing pregnancies and she has been showing everyone her belly shots and has been asking for mine. I finally caved in even though it scares the crap out of me to have people judge my belly. Even after having lost 120 lbs I never had a flat tummy, I will probably always have excess skin unless I tummy tuck and I am ok with that but I just didn't expect everyone else to see it. I'm going to post them here because I know most of you are not as judgemental since you are going through it yourself. It's a lot different when you put it on facebook for people you haven't seen in 5 years to see! Anyway I leave you with ultrasound and belly pics.

Hope you all are gearing up for a great weekend! Anyone have any plans? Share your favorite candy or sweet with me so I know I'm not the only one who loves em!

You are so pretty! and adorable with that cute lil baby bump. I am sorry about you being stressed out with family issues. It must be awful trying to deal with everything and then have that curveball thrown in. Things will be ok, don't worry. Wishing you the best!

Aww!! Both the baby and your baby bump. Girl, your stomach looks great. I don't see the extra skin you speak of. We are our own worst critics. Be proud of how awesome you look. You will be so happy that you took 'bump' pictures. I know it's small now, but it's fun to have something to compare against once you really start growing. Congrats on everything!

You look amazing! You've lost 120 pounds?? Your tummy looks really good! When I had my son I didn't really believe I was pregnant until about 15 weeks. I never got sick, never felt weird, nothing. It wasn't until my fat pooch turned round and somewhat less jiggly that I started to believe it. Even with the ultrasounds and heartbeat scans... I was always so worried. But that's completely normal. You'll feel better when you can feel the baby moving... not too much longer!!! Hang in there and enjoy this time cause it goes so fast!

Week 11- No news

Monday, January 17, 2011

I am a little behind in this, as in I'm almost on my 12th week so I'll just make this quick. Not much has been happening anyway. My morning sickness has gotten much better. It's few and far between and mostly on days when I ate long before bed and wake up hungry. Eating obviously solves that problem so I keep crackers next to the bed and munch before I even get out of bed. I'm really glad that the morning sickness is easing up. It was definitely not the best pregnancy symptom! In other news the fatique hasn't eased yet so I am still exhausted all the time. I talked through that with Tom though and he has been helping around the house more which alleviates some of the work for me! Thank goodness because once Baby SweetPea is here he's going to have to help more, I definitely won't be able to do it all. We finally settled on paint colors and that should be starting next weekend. It's hard when you aren't going to find out the sex because gender neutral can be ugly. We inherited Tom's sisters beautiful crib, cradle and dresser so that's one item on my list that I can check off. We are actually going to pick it up when we go to Pittsburgh next month and bring it back, which is why the bedroom has to be painted! I'll be glad to have that part done. We are waiting until the baby is here to buy bedding. We are picking a set we like for a boy and for a girl and Tom will pick it up before or shortly after we bring baby home. I think that's just about it. I still haven't gained much which is nice even though I haven't been as active as I would like to. It will be nice to get back into a normal routine and feel like myself again.

That's it for today! Hopefully more exciting stuff on Friday after our next ultrasound!

The List

Thursday, January 06, 2011

2 blogs in one day, you guys are getting spoiled. haha.
I'm bored at work, slow season is upon us and I am taking full advantage now because in the next 2 weeks we will hit a fever pitch when I won't even be able to take a lunch break.

In any case, I wanted to write about something we girls at my office have been talking about a lot lately. The List. I hope some of you know what this is without my explanation but I definitely did not when it was explained to me. Essentially The List is a group of celebrities that your spouse or significant other knows you would like to get it on with (and in most cases they have their own list). The premise of the list is that if you came across these celebrities in real life it would be like a get out of jail free card if you did indeed hook up. I guess the probability of it happening are so slim that most people are cool with the list. I knew Tom had women that he would definitely want to be with if he had the chance, I just did not know this was a widely known phenemonen(sp).

In any case I have been asking just about everyone I meet who is on their list and how many it is. I made Tom choose only 5 because I think that's enough but I guess in general most people have 10 and one group I asked had 25! I had a hard time even coming up with 25. So The List can be any type of celebrity- athlete, musician, actor, etc. But they have to be a celebrity, can't just be Joe Schmoe down the block because that crosses into scary territory because that could definitely come to fruition and would be BAD.

So I will post my 10(I had a hard time with 10, I came with up a solid 6 and had to search for a few more.) I'm dying to know who everyone else has on their list!!

1. Ian Somerhalder

Truth be told, I love vampires, I would not complain if he bit me! Look at those eyes

2. Jesse Williams

OK so I have a thing for creepy eyes. His are like unreal! Look at the freckles

3. Penn Badgley

So he is good looking but in a kinda dorky way and I think he would totally be the fun kind of guy to hang out with. Smart, kinda nerdy but would be fun!

4. Ed Westwick

Truth be told I also have a thing for guys who look like they might be bad asses. I don't know if my love for him stems from his bad boy personality on Gossip Girl or not but he also has a wicked accent- major points!

5. Shia LaBeouf

Another bad boy. Look at the smirk. He looks like the type to beat someone up and then come and kiss you right on the mouth. Yes PLEASE!!

6. Chace Crawford

He has typical good looks and that's what I love. Blonde hair, light eyes, how can you not love that? Plus his hair is always messed up and it looks like he had a rough night in bed!

7. Ryan Gosling

So he is not really my type perse. He's good looking, no doubt about that but I can not think of the movie The Notebook without getting hot and bothered. He was so rough but sweet in that movie, yummo!

8. Kellan Lutz

Ok so this pic speaks for itself. Hello abs!

9. Cam Gigandet

Again he looks like a bad boy. He has that smirk that could probably talk me into just about anything.

10. Robert Downey Jr.

Ok so he is definitely a little older than me and my normal age range but you can not deny that he has something about him. He's mega goodlooking, funny and he has a troubled past which makes you see that he is human. I love him!

Ok ladies, there's my list. I hope you guys can come up with a few and share them with me. This was fun to do with my girls at work because it definitely exposed me to some different tastes!

4) Donnie Wahlberg
5) Jonnie Depp
6) Bruce Willis (don't hate on the old guys ok??)
7) Liam Nissan (again, old I know..)
8) David Tennet
9) Colin Firth
10) Josh Duhamel

So I have a thing for action movie guys and British guys. LoL! Is it wrong that I have brothers on my list?

Baby Check in Week 10- Big Changes

Thursday, January 06, 2011

Hi all,

Hope your new year is off to a fantastic start. I know mine is! Tom and I have just been spending more and more time together. I know the time we have left as just the two of us is numbered so we have been trying to squeeze in as much time together as we can. It helps when he works days like he did this week. Next week I'll be on my own while he works nights. It's all for the baby though, he makes more money working nights so I can't blame him. It just doesn't make my night any fun when it's just me and the puppers.

Last weekend we had every intention of starting the baby registry. We went out and had a nice lunch that turned out to not be so nice. It made me so sick that we didn't last more than 15 minutes in Babies R Us. We did spend time looking at car seats and strollers and now have research to do online as far as picking what will be best for our needs. I know there are a million to choose from so I have been asking around about whether to get a travel system or just do separate strollers and car seats. So far the concensus has been to do the 2 separate since the baby will grow out of the car seats pretty fast before they graduate to sitting properly in a stroller. Who knows, I will probably change my mind 7 more times anyway. In any case we will get around to the registry eventually. I know I can do a lot of it online which is nice since the store can be overwhelming. We literally walked around shaking our heads thinking "man we don't know what newborns need". It's funny but something I'm sure a lot of first time parents go through.

Our New Year's Eve was pretty dull. We did our grocery shopping early in the day and then lounged around watching movies. I got Tom sushi for dinner since it's his favorite and I owed him a special anniversary dinner. I laid in bed reading for awhile and eventually passed out at like 10:30 pm completely missing the ball drop. Tom stayed up but didn't watch the ball drop either. It was a pretty lame night overall but I'm not complaining. New Year's Day was spent eating traditional sour kraut and pork(any other PA Dutch out there no what I'm talking about?). Our weekends have been pretty low key which is nice, it gives me time to take naps and catch up on the sleep that I miss out on at night.

The big changes that are coming start this weekend. We are starting the slew of house updates that need finished before the baby comes this weekend. We have to paint the nursery, basement, and kitchen. They are already painted but not how I envisioned so it's time to change them. We also are going to pick out flooring so we can rip up the carpets sooner than later(I will be out of town for the floor demo thank goodness). These are all things that we have been putting off for a solid year now and we realize that these next 7 months will fly by so it's now or never. Tom isn't all that thrilled because he HATES painting but he knows it's necessary so he will do it. The other big change is kicking the puppies out of our bed. They are making it even harder for me to get a good nights sleep and we don't want them in there once the baby comes anyway so it's time to wean them. We are buying them heated beds of their own so that they are comfortable and we are going to try and leave them in our room but they might have to be locked downstairs for awhile to keep them from whining or jumping up. It's hard and I love my little guys in bed with me but it's just too much especially when I wake up half out of the bed because the dog is lying perpendicular between Tom and I on my pillow! I don't think so!

Hmm, what else is going on? I think that's about it for now. There are no belly shots yet mainly because I think I just look chubby and not pregnant. Tom has been taking a weekly picture so we can track it but I'm not ready to share yet.

I am including the big announcement pictures in this post. Like I said not the greatest pics but the thought was there. Maybe next baby! haha

First this was the dummy pic

and this was the surprise pic- notice that pap is completely cut out!

and a totally random picture of a nursery that I think is gender neutral, what do you think?

I've spent the last several weeks totally stressing out over what carseat/stroller to buy. Even once you figure out your own needs, it's still overwhelming. Good luck!

I FINALLY decided on a travel system (carseat/stroller combo) made by Graco, in part because I got it on sale, with free shipping, and employee discount (my husband works for a large, retail company).

That is a really beautiful nursery and I think it's pretty much gender neutral. If it's a girl, you can always accessorize that way later and the same for a boy. But as a basic start, that's great!

2010 Recap and 2011 Goals

Thursday, December 30, 2010

I cannot believe 2010 is almost over. This year has flown by and I still canít believe itís been a whole year since I was married! Crazy. I wanted to recap how I did in 2010 and set some goals for 2011. Obviously weight loss won't be a huge part of this year since I will be spending most of it gaining baby weight but I still think goals are good to have.

First things first- 2010 goals
1. Weight loss- Although I didnít reach my goal weight I did land within 5 lbs of it and I take that as a huge success. Overall between Jan 1 and finding out I was pregnant I lost 47 lbs making the grand total weight loss 123 lbs. Just crazy!
2. Money- We have very little debt left so we definitely met this goal
3. Wife- this got easier once Tom switched back to a normal 7-5 shift and we have more time together.
4. House- Crazy that we just finished the guest room and now it needs redone for a nursery(just paint I hope!) but yes goal met
5. Puppy- We adopted Remi almost a year ago and he and Sophie are the best!
6. Baby- Well interestingly enough our goal was start trying in October and we got lucky! Baby Sweetpea is due early August 2011!
7. Dates- this is a complicated one, we do go out but usually not for anything crazy special. We love having breakfast out on the weekends together just to catch up on the week and have done this almost every weekend! I count it as goal met
8. 5k- ok so not met technically. I didnít run any 5ks just skipped right to the half marathon, maybe in 2011?
9. Housework- 90% of the time we accomplish this, there are weeks where we are busy and just donít want to clean everyday but I can say that we both love having Saturdayís and Sundayís free so we both make weekday cleaning a priority.
10. Family and Friends- We travelled back and forth to Pittsburgh a lot to see everyone, I even went alone quite often so I think I held up my end of the friendships this year!

Now for 2011 is where I spent some time really thinking about what my focus would be for the year. I want health and nutrition to still be a part of my life but not all consuming like it is when you are in weight loss mode.
1. Health- I want the baby and I both to have a healthy pregnancy. I want to continue eating well and working out for as long as I can. I donít want to be number obsessed but want to try and stay within the recommended weight gain of 25-35 lbs.
2. Body after baby- I know I wonít get my pre baby body back right away but I do want getting back to myself to be a priority. I know how good I feel now and I know that I will feel just as good after baby if I make my health and wellness a priority. No rush but just making the time for good food and exercise- maybe running another half marathon in there?
3. Baby ready- I want us to work on getting our house baby ready so that we can sit back towards the end and enjoy our pregnancy. This means finishing the floors and buying furniture sooner than later(we are already looking for a deal on nursery furniture)
4. Reading/Mommy time- I want to make sure and take time for me. I spend a lot of time worrying about others and usually let me hobbies and interests go to the wayside. I want to take back some of the priority and have me time. I also want to set the goal of reading 100 books this year- putting it out there so if you have any book recommendations send them over
5. Finances- I want us to set up a few different accounts for us and baby. I want to start a college fund so that our child can have something for their education someday. I also want to make sure that Tom and I are starting good retirement funds for both of us and also saving money for my maternity leave since my job doesnít offer paid maternity.
6. Husband time- lastly I want to make sure and spend as much quality time with Tom as I can now before the baby comes. I know everyone says how much a baby enriches your life but they also say how it changes your relationship with your husband. Tom is my number 1 and I want to make sure he knows that. I just want us to make sure we spend the next 9 months enjoying our life without kids before it all changes.
I think those are good goals and thinks I can achieve this year. I know that this year has been great but I really think 2011 is going to be the best year yet! Hope everyone else is setting some goals to strive for!

Happy almost New Yearís!!
