NEED TO TAKE TIME FOR ME

Tuesday, August 11, 2009

I rushed so today that I felt that I was going in circles. I got a lot done, unpacked and cleaned every nook and cranny in the house. Hubby came home and said he could not believe how sparkley everything was. Of course, he asked me why there were so many trash bags outside. I told him that I was in the mood to remove unnecessary things from the house. I cleaned and threw away things that I keep hanging onto for some reason or another. Hubby could not believe it. I let go of the old magazines I was keeping for one recipe, the articles on houses that i thought were important etc. It felt good to let go. Now I need to get into the closets and do the same

I did a lot of sorting/throwing away/donating when I moved into this 55+ apartment complex last January when I almost got flooded again at my old place. Now I have to keep going and get rid of my books that I think I will read "sometime". All my bookshelves are overflowing. If they were empty I'd have room for other things. I don't know what it is about books that I collect. Most of them were given to me--old books. I guess I'm just a packrat at heart...........

It does always seem to make you feel better after cleaning everything up. So good for you I think I need a little of your energy.

Good for you! I know it always makes me feel good for some unknown reason when I clean out all the clutter I have. ;-) Take your time doing the closets...those can always be hidden away! ha ha emoticon

DAY OF CATCHING UP

Monday, August 10, 2009

I have been unpacking our suitcases, washing up the clothes that we took with us and putting everything away. We also packed all the beans for the freezer and shared some with a couple of neighbors that are always doing things for us. One lady feeds the cats and gathers our mail while we are out of town, and another is always helping Hubby with projects around our house. When Hubby hurt his back, he has been cutting the yard as this was one of the things that he was told not to do. As he is a country boy he was really excited about getting these freshly shelled. He told Hubby he would be cooking this as this reminded him of his youth on the farm in Georgia. He is unable to work as he broke his back a few years ago and was a laborer and cannot climb ladders and hold out all day doing heavy manual labor. He works around the neighborhood helping everyone out. He is very knowledgeable of plants and has given me lots of advise on my planting. This has help me keep my plants alive as I never really had lots of luck with plants

It sounds like you had a great time doing beans and peas. You are lucky to have good neighbors to help out when you go away.

JUST RETURNED

Sunday, August 09, 2009

We have returned from the visit with the inlaws. We had a great time. It is wonderful to be out in the country were there are no lights at night, just the stars and moon. We picked peas for his Uncle's pea house. I thought we would be shelling them, but we had to pick them out discard all the imature peas, trash etc before the were weighted and sacked to be sold. They have an automatic pea sheller which does what I thought I would be doing. We brought home a bushel of shelled specked butter beans and white acre peas. We have put them in freezer. We enjoy them thoughout the year. We really enjoyed our time away from the city

It does sound like you had a great time. Mmmmm, want to share some of those beans and peas?

My mother was a city girl and when she was growing up, she always got to spend her summers at her aunt's farm; they owned (and still own; though their kids run it now) a fruit farm in Canada. The last time we were up there, I had the opportunity to watch the process and even walked away with some delicious peaches.
