So I recieved the Spark book and started reading it. I really believe in this program and all the helpful hints and goal setting etc. My main problem really boils down to motivation to actually DO it. I can plan and set goals all day long - but it won't matter at all unless I follow it up with true action. So I've decided to slow things down a bit. Instead of trying to do every thing at once and then get burned out - just concentrate on one goal at a time.

Like for instance, I like to have my fried egg sandwich in the morning from the cafeteria at work. It use to have sausage, egg, cheese on an english muffin with mayo and mustard. The calories for that was around 600 calories - almost half my daily allowance. Now I only order the egg and cheese from the cafeteria and bring my own 45 calorie a slice bread and I have swapped plain greek yogurt for the mayo and added sliced tomatos. Now my fried egg sandwich is only 275 calories and it tastes just as good - even better since I know I am saving over 300 calories!

I'm thinking that once a week or once every two weeks I incorporate one new habit or one new goal that I work at making a habit until it is a working part of my life. I'm thinking that my new goal will be that I wont watch tv until 7pm. Right now I get home from work around 3:30pm and watch tv most nights until bedtime. If I wait until 7pm to start watching tv I can use all that time to work on other things that I haven't been keeping up on like practicing the guitar (and practicing the guitar can actually be counted as exercise!) two birds with one stone. The point is not to overload myself with changes - I'm thinking that a long term goal will be to reach 130 by the time I am 50. It would be nice if it happened sooner. I'll just keep plugging along!

So I put a notebook on the coffee table where I usually sit and watch tv in the evening to track everything I eat. I was surprised by my peanut butter snacking. Grrr. I'm going to try to keep track of everything that I eat in the evening and then go back and enter it in the next day since I don't feel like entering it in the evenings. This is really going to help me monitor my bad food choices. Also, I bought the spark book and pre-ordered the new spark book coming out. I am trying to find good swaps to reduce my calories and finding ways to get extra exercise in.

sleep lab

So I went to the sleep lab last night and found out what I suspected all along. I have sleep apnea. I am hoping that once I get that taken care of I should have more energy to get the exercise I need in. It will definitely been nice to wake up rested in the morning instead of constantly exhausted.

I really hate feeling hungry all the time.

    When I first started SP I felt hungry a lot. It is a matter of finding that plan that work, Perhaps 5-6 smaller meals throughout the day will help. I always make sure I eat a piece of fruit within an hour of getting up. A couple hours later we have breakfast. Three hours or so later I have lunch.....three hours or so later I have a snack and than dinner. There are times when I feel the need to have a snack later, but make sure I only have a healthy snack (or none at all). Took to long to get out of the habit of night time eating so I am very careful about that. Good luck to you on this journey to a healthier lifestyle. emoticon

    It is the hardest thing for me. I know the trick is 1) learning to be full on less calories at a time 2) spacing out the food from morning til bed so there is always some fullness in the old belly. 3) doing all this and still ending up with the caloric ration we'd been given

It took me months to get the formula down right. Until I did: I was hungry.

ok. So now it's been 10 months since I've given Sparkpeople.com a try again. I went on the Ideal protien diet and I lost 24 pounds in the beginning but then just maintained my weight for the next four months which did not justify how expensive the food was. It just wasnt' working and wasn't sustainable and I practically cannot look at a salad without gagging. I know that I need more proteins and less carbs but I really believe that Sparkpeople.com has the best diet plan and its free. I know I still need to up my exercise because for now - I'm drinking alot of beer even though I switched to Micholob Ultra. I'm going to do my best to cut down on that as well. We shall see how it goes
