11th April 2012

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

Hi everyone, thank you for all the support that you have given me with all my blogs, it has been wonderful and inspirational.

Well, I was so good over Easter with having no Easter eggs in in the house but i did buy I pkt of hot cross buns. I allowed 1 per day. I did meet my calories each day. I did buy dinner on Good Friday, I bought fish and chips. They were cooked in the healthy, good oil. A small meal really. I di enjoy it and it was cooked to perfetion, not oily at all.

So in some ways I am proud of myself as I only bought 1 pkt of the buns instead of the 2 or 3 I would have bought previously and I did limit myself to 1 per day. no butter or marg. Then the fish and chips, what can I say. I have always bought this on Easter. I did only buy the small pkt. But is this the old me, making escuses. I still did alright on the calories these days because I allowed this. Good Friday because I woke up late I did have a hot cross bun for breakfast/lunch then grapes in the afternoon and then the dinner.

However with doing this I blew my carbs out of the water and over about 3 days I put on 3 kgs. 6lbs. not good. I have lost just over 1 kg now.

Not happy with me for doing this. It still proves I have a long way to go.
It has proved to me how careful I need to be. All the improvements I have made and then I do this. Undone the goodness that I have managed to change.

I can't use excuses because of such and such, I need to do this each and every day.
Otherwise it is just too hard to keep losing the same weight over and over again.

Hi Wendy, I agree with the other comments - if you allowed for the calories in your tracker then you didn't blow it - they are high carb foods and will help to retain fluid - so once that fluid is gone, the weight will go too - it is impossible to put on 3 kegs of FAT in that time unless you are really pigging out and you didn't do that!! Don't put too much emphasis on the daily scales - only compare weekly or even monthly otherwise you will stress about it when it isn't a true indication of your progress. All 'normal' people allow themselves treats and account for it by adjusting other meals - just like you did!! Well done.

I agree with everyone else. Instead of bashing yourself for what you did wrong, pat yourself on what you did right! You did so many things right it made my head spin! If you are concerned about coffee and drinking when it gets cold. I drank hot water this winter. Sometimes with a little honey and sometimes with green tea. Mostly just hot water and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
You are doing alot better than you thought and even though losing those 3 lbs will be hard, you will lose them. Keep eating well and drinking lots of water- hot, cold somewhere inbetween. Keep moving. That's what you have done before. It's ok to do something special on special occations. This isn't supposed to be a punishment but a way of life. In life you can treat yourself once in a great while and not overdo it. You did great! Just keep up the good work and those numbers will go down again. emoticon emoticon

When I went to my diabetic educator, she said I needed more calories to LOSE weight... and my renal dietician agreed. And with our kidney issues, where else can they come from if not from carbs? LOL BUT...

I'm just wondering how much sodium is in a hot cross bun... LOL A single slice of plain white bread has 170mg... and you and I both know, if we think about it, that sodium is more the culprit in quick weight gain that the carbs are! LOL

I agree that you got through the holiday wonderfully well... and I'm glad you recognize that you've improved and are moving forward! Keep up the great work, dear friend!

Just look at all the wonderful folks here who are cheering you on!...

Be well!

All good advice, thank you. I know what you are saying. I am still drinking a ton of water but I am also having more coffee so this is probably causing a problem with retaining fluid. It is cooling down now.

I do think carbs are a big problem for me, as you know a lot of carbs do contain sugar. with increasing my exercises I seem to be hungrier and I am goiong for the carbs. I need the carbs with fibre not the sugar.

I really did get peeved off with myself because it is so hard to lose this weight. From my lowest weight being on Sparks before I lost my computer last year, I have put on about 6 kgs and I am just playing around with the same 2 or 3kgs all the time. Just cant seem to get down to that weight I was before.

I do realise that there is no bad food but I just need to be more careful when eating these foods.

I do learn by my msitakes just going to try harder. I am picking myself back up LOL.

H Wendy, I can only agree with the other comments here. Please don't beat yourself up, (it doesn't help your self esteem) and we all take a detour now and then. I know it is frustrating to go 'backwards'...we are all human though, and I know you will be back on track. You did so much better in your eating this Easter, so that is something to be proud of!

The calories in the food you mentioned does not translate to the weight gain. So the weight gain is mostly due to water retention. Increase your water intake and flush it away. You are doing fine. You managed your food sensibly. I strongly believe there is no bad food and having that mindset is harmful. All foods can be enjoyed in moderation. I am glad you had a nice Easter.

Look forward to getting back to normal, it may be fluid retention. I bought one packet of hot cross buns too.

Wendy you have nothing to beat yourself up about, you just ate the wrong things, how often do we do that every now and again. I bought two packets of the buns and ate 2 at the one time. Wipe that slate clean. You will catch up I'm sure

There's a lot of difference between what you used to do and what you did this Easter. I don't think it's necessary to castigate yourself at all! You ate as a "normal" human being - on a special occasion and in moderation. Above all, you are obviously aware of what you are eating, rather than the mindless indulgence I'm capable of!! I think you did very well. emoticon

Wendy I can't really see anything in your description that indicates that you 'blew it'. I know that you have additional considerations with your diet but within that it's important to be able to continue the odd tradition or two. It's also about living a life after all. It sounds to me like you did really well and I know that you've been doing quite a lot of steps. Our bodies are a bit of a mystery aren't they. I know you've been eating on the lower end of your count - the fact that its only Wed and the scales already show a 1 kg redistribution says to me that there might be something else going on. I can't see that you could accumulate that much fat over those few days but you probably understand all the ins and outs of how your condition affects you where as I'm only guessing.

I climbed on the scales today and have lost 750 grams since Saturday when I put on the 300 - but I've eaten more over that period. I guess patience is the one constant!!

this is the first year i have not had one piece of Easter candy in the house. No one was here so it was easy to do. I did have Blueberry Muffins from Panera Bread. I must look up the calories and pot and phos, sodium in these because they taste to good to be true. So i will probley be a emoticonbaby when i find out the results. You see you are not alone.

Wendy, Please don't let a couple of days off track rob you of all the success you've achieved just this last year. We all slip up from time to time but knowing you you're already back on track and will lose the recent weight gain fast. You've achieved so much so just focus on that and continue to move forward. So what the heck, you might have overdid it a bit but no real damage done except to your mindset, maybe. I believe in you and know you already are healthier for all the good changes you've made in your diet and moving more. Fight on is always my motto. . .

    Sweetheart !! don't beat yourself up .
Just chalk it up to a learning experience and start over ..
I couldn't resist chocolate that my daughter gave us, and the consequence was I am 1 kilo over .
I should have known better but still did it ..
so I am back trying to look after myself ..
I stayed within my calories and thought I could get away with it .. but no !!
We need to eat more protein and less carbs its the carbs that are the killer ...
Take care my sweet friend ... Hugs and Love Susie

Easter Saturday

Saturday, April 07, 2012

What a lovely day after yesterday. Easter Friday was so windy and rough. Not doing anything exciting beside being on here which I do enjoy. LOL.
Doing a lot of sleeping getting over my cold both yesterday and then again today with another 3 1/2 hours sleep. They do say sleep recuperates you. Well each time I get up I do feel a lot better than before I went to sleep. LOL. Just hope I sleep tonight.

I do have intentions for going out tomorrow.

Steps total for 6 days is 44,453. Wow I am impressed with myself. I have set myself a grand total of 200,000 steps in 30 days.

I have set myself a target now that I know I can do over 10,000 steps is that I will do this either 2 or 3 times per week.

I will walk 50,000 steps per week. But like this week I will not get there but it will be 46 or 47,000 steps I am not going to beat myself up over this. This cold has slowed me up but I have to get myself better. This is still an outstanding achievement for me. For a person who used to sit on her ...(you know what) for the greatest part of the day.

I am happy with what I am achieving , I have come a long way but still has a long road to travel. I will get there. I will succeed. I am proud. I am happy

Happy belated Easter. Sorry I never got back to you - you did not offend me. One religion here does not eat meat during lent. I cannot speak for all of the different faiths - but each have their own traditions and sacrifices for Lent.

You take care. God Bless you!

Absolutely awesome, Wendy! Take care not to overdo it, and trust what your body is telling you, so you don't have a setback. You have made so much progress - good for you!

Thanks for stopping by my page! I'm on the merry-go-round of trying to find a medication that I can tolerate and helps with the pain. I tried one that I literally couldn't stomach, so it's on to the next option...it takes the edge off but I am still in pain every day, especially with the need to de-clutter and put the house on the market. The pain makes it such a slow process but as there is no-one else to do it, I have to just work through the pain as best as I can.

Happy Easter everybody

Thursday, April 05, 2012

Happy Easter, I hope you have a good one. Catching up with family and celebrating. I am having a quiet one at home by myself. I will catch up with the grandchildren some time next week hopefully.

I have been having trouble with my Internet for the last few days, finally got this all sorted out today. It is fast again. I will be catching up with my friends on Sparks in the next few days.

I have had a couple of quiet days but today was very busy getting my sons ready to go away for the weekend. I also had my youngest son, his his girlfriend and her son over for dinner tonight so I spent a lot of time getting that ready. I never overate. So I am very pleased with myself.

Now my steps Tuesday I managed only 5643 steps
Wednesday was only 2865
These two days were getting over the last 5 days of great steps

Today Thursday wait for it. 14, 543 steps.

I wonder how this will affect me. LOL.

On top of all this I got a cold, the flu is going around here. I think it is the changing weather. It has been quite hot here again or still. LOL. I got this cold about 4pm yesterday afternoon, felt okay then about this time I started sneezing and that was it. My poor eyes looked like they wer crying today. At least mine is only in the head. LOL.

Must be time for bed.
Good night everyone. I keep saying this but it is all different times over the world. But it is my bed time.

Sounds like a lovely time--my Easter was also quiet, I called my brother Bruce, but I didn't bother to call my sister and my dad... they were enroute to another state, to visit my sis's grandkids for the holiday.

Beautiful day here yesterday, in the 60's...

Years ago there was a TV show called "Here Come the Brides"... their theme song started out "the bluest skies you've ever seen are in Seattle, and the hills the greenest green, in Seattle..." it felt like that yesterday--though I'm 30 miles south of it! LOL Of course, Australia and New Zealand can lay claim to the same... *giggle*

I'm glad things are going so well... and hope you get over the cold quickly. Odd, I've got a bit of a sore throat and some coughing today too... maybe it's all the pollen. I AM allergic to lillies... LOL

I hope you have another lovely day...

2nd April 2012

Monday, April 02, 2012

such a lot has happened since last Thursday, it has all been good. I have spent so much time with the grandchildren and have had lots of fun. I have had the energy to bath them and to look after them. Even a few months ago I did not have the energy to do all that I have now with the kids. I know they have appreciated my efforts.

Steps Saturday 11,393
Sunday 9470
Monday 8636 plus 1 hour and 10 minutes at my exercise class.

I am very pleased with what I am achieving now. Food is going really well.

I am hoping to start losing some weight again. Matter as fact I am looking forward to it. LOL.

So very tired and worn out now, I am going to bed and it is a rest day tomorrow. Might be able to cope with some gentle exercises. We will see tomorrow.
Good night everyone. It is night time in Australia.

30th March 2012

Friday, March 30, 2012

I had a really good sleep last night. Went to bed at 9.30pm, very early for me and the alarm woke me at 8am.

I used sticky tape to stick up my pedometer as it keeps falling apart where the batteries are, so far it is working like that.

For the new people following my blogs. A little bit of my background story. I am so happy with what I achieved yesterday because I have chronic kidney disease, stage 5. This is the end stage and the last stage before dialysis. I also have a few other things wrong associated with the kidney disease. I do battle tiredness most of the time. Been anaemic for a number of years but I still battle on. Been having infusion since last year. I also had 2 major operations at the end of 2009 and the beginning of 2010. They were both life threatening.

I proved yesterday to myself that I can do more than i do most days. BUT I also know I cannot do this everyday. I would be very silly to myself. So I am going try once or twice a week but this depends how I pull up today and tomorrow.

Well, I clocked 9236 steps today, this even surprised me. As I am tired today and a little bit sore but it still proves I can do it. So I must be fitter than I thought.

The grandchildren arrived this afternoon and they will be here until Monday afternoon.

Another improvement I noticed tonight , my 8 years old grandson was jumping for me to catch him which I did on numerous occasions. I ended up saying to my son "I never thought I would be able to do that" as for years I had trouble with my back. I had been going to see chiropractors or physios for years but it is now over a year that I have needed to go to one. Good stuff for me. Actually I started seeing a chiropractor before I was pregnant with my son and he is now 33 years old.

So many improvements for me. Way to go.
Just keep them coming LOL.

So sorry to hear about your kidney disease! You seem to be a strong, motivated woman despite what you are going through. I have gone to a chiropractor constantly for 18 years and it has helped. But, since doing all my walking and losing 54 pounds I have not needed to go as much. They make you feel like you have to go ($) or you will seize up and you need maintenance! Well, I beg to differ! I haven't been now in 2 months and I don't feel so bad. Back is getting better day by day!
Good for you on all your improvements and having such a positive attitude! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Just how good are you going, girlfriend. emoticon
Have you ever been to Rewarding Health web site. They sell pedometers and every time you reach 10,000 you get a code that you put into the website at S2H.com. When the point build up to whatever, you can redeem rewards.

I joined in August last year and the pedometer cost me $40 but they have them out for $20 sometimes on special. So far I have redeemed 6 x $10 gift cards from Target and Big W. Great stuff and now the pedometer hasn't cost ne anything at all and I'm still getting rewards.

Just thought I'd share that with you. You may be interested.

glad you found a way to make your pedometer work. And glad that you're recognizing limitations. Not elasy to accept, but we have to listen to our bodies!

Wow Wendy these are really major improvements aren't they!! Pretty inspiring actually. I'm not sure how I'd go catching an 8 year old. You must have developed some good muscle strength in amongst it all.

Boy I'm envious about the sleep...

Have another good one.
