Sorry I have been a bit quiet lately. Just resting and relaxing. Still no word from the doctors, either on the fistula or the new medication I am supposed to go on.

The new medication is for my thyroid problems which is caused by my kidneys, if these do not work to bring my levels down I will need to have a thyroidectomy?.
It just seems to be one thing after the after.

Still not eating very much, I am eating the right foods now, I went down and bought lots of food I can eat.

I am looking forward to weighing tomorrow LOL. I am positive I have lost more weight.

The grandies will be here tomorrow, so I will get some photos this week.

So not much news at the moment.
Have a great weekend

I've got my fingers crossed that you won't need to get that fistula installed! Once we get one of these system wide diseases, they cascade and pretty soon we have them all! I started with thyroid (I've been on meds for 15 years), then high cholesterol, diabetes, then kidney disease, then osteoporosis - it just doesn't stop, does it?

Wishing you luck on your weigh in!

    Dear Wendy,
Sorry to hear about your thyroid problems. I have Hashimoto's nodules (hypo) so I know how this can affect your emotions, metabolism and insulin levels, making you hungry.
Is the fistula getting any better?
Good on you for going to the shops and buying food that you can eat...this is a very important thing for you to do...calorie count and put the meal in a plastic container in the fridge, if you can find time to cook extra meals and put them in the freezer, it will save time and money. It will reduce stress, knowing you have something healthy on hand when in a rush. I have just realised how to do this!...I just didn't want to think about it, my health and stress got in the way...Not any more...new mind set and lots of plastic lunch packs in fridge and freezer Ha Ha this is the way to beat the worry and hunger binges!!!     Sorry dear Wendy that you're not feeling too well, keep in touch and have a good time tomorrow. The thyroid is a worry but very common i have low thyroid and have been on meds for 20 years
We're having a treat tomorrow going to BNE for a special screening of a leonardo da Vinci exhibition in a cinema from London. The Cattery is very quiet good for the body but bad for the bank account.

No blood test today, he has to put my on some new medication on advise from a specialist. The funny thing the specialist did not state what dosage he wants to me start on. So it will be another visit to the doctor later on and I will be asking for blood test then before I start this medication.

I am okay just very tired at the moment and some of it is I am not hungry so not eating much. But I did go shopping today for some very healthy food, mainly salads. So hope this helps.

Thank you everyone for your continued support. It does mean a lot to me.

I find sometimes when I'm not hungry, soup is a pretty good option--and I know you are in the middle of summer still, but try it for breakfast before the day gets really hot--and there are some cold soups you can try... you know, just to get you started.

I wish they'd done those tests, I know too how hard it is to gear up for that, if you are like me, you end up drinking a whole lot of water so they can find a vein when the time comes! LOL

My colonoscopy is tomorrow morning, and I'm having the opposite problem--I WANT to eat, and not allowed! LOL

I'm wishing us BOTH luck...

The best to you Wendy. Throw a little protein in your salad if you can eat it. I do like Tuna in my salads sometimes. I know what you mean about not being hungry, but i never seem to lose any weight.

    Hi Wendy ..
Hope you manage to get some rest today my friend !
Glad your Doctors and Specialist are taking such good care of you ..
Hopefully this new med will help.
Enjoy your new healthy food .
Did you know that eating well and healthy can also help your kidney function?
My Daughter Helen's kidney function is always so much better when she eats right but when she reverts back to her stodgy foods her kidney function goes right back down .
So there is a link between eating healthy and our vital organs.
Hugs and Love Susie

Take Care my Lovely friend .. Always in my thoughts ..

yep I am going to try my best to prove them wrong. I know I cannot not reverse what is going to happen at some time but by changing my eating again I may be able to keep my kidneys functioning longer. I have been fighting this disease for more than 26 years and I don't intend to give up now. I may have lost the battle but as yet I have not lost the war.

I still think what happened a month ago with the sudden death of my ex, has had this effect of my kidneys. So I am hoping with rest, the food and generally looking after myself may keep them going longer.

I had a 3 to 4 hour sleep this afternoon and feel a lot better now.

I have a doctors's appointment tomorrow morning for more blood test so i am hoping. We will be having blood test every month now to see how my kidneys are going. I will hopefully get the results in a few days.

I will not let this get me down, I still have a life to live, it is only a little setback at present. I need to be strong for my grandchildren. They need me and I need them

During times of stress, the adrenals secrete cortisol, which affects EVERYTHING in the body, including the kidneys. So, I think you're right . . . the sudden death probably had an affect. BUT hopefully with things more on tract it will improve a little.

You have a spirit I admire!

I saw my Neprologist today and sadly I was right. I need to have the fistula inserted into my left arm within the next month. He told me I have run out of chances. But even though I have to have this in now. It does not mean I will be on dialysis at present even he said i could prove them wrong again and improve again. So I will be doing everything I can to make this happen.

At present I am on a low protein, low sodium, low potassium, low phosphate, low GI diet. So it is interesting checking to see what I can eat.

Hi thank you everyone for your comments, support and kind words on my last blog.
I feel that in the last few months I have finally grown up LOL. This is mainly due to the support, encouragement and love I get from all on you. You all have given me the inspiration to continue on with my journey.

This has all been so important on my journey through life and the health issues I am facing.

I thank you one and all for the love and support that you have given me.

Now I need to readjust my goals

I still am aiming for 20 to 25kgs weight loss for this year. There is 3 kgs gone already.

But how I do that now need to be changed.

So that plans now is to do more of the chair exercises. These include chair dancing, chair marching, and the videos that are on this site and other chair exercises.

Plus with the walking I do everyday should help me to get there. The difference is I had plans of walking 10000 steps per day, I didn't get there but now I am going to change that to around 5000 to 6000 per day, plus the chair marching.

Plus as stated before I need to change my diet again.

I will still need all the support, encouragement and love that you all give me.

emoticon emoticon You are all the emoticon

Sad to say goodbye to independent kidney function, but life does go on. I don't remember reading who said that about a new chapter, (it could even have been me for all I know!--swiss cheese memory, y'know? LOL) but that is true, and I know some folks who've been on dialysis for thirty-plus years and are still going strong.

I've been tracking my phosphorus and so on for a little while now--the doctors tend to start us out way ahead of the race here. There IS a nutrition tracking for it on SP, but it's in percentages of RDA so it's a bit tricky figuring out where the parameters need to be... I was told 60-80% of "normal" requirements. Your parameters will be set for your circumstances specifically. The biggest problem is, manufacturers are not required to list the amounts on the labels... so even more of the processed foods (any thing with phosphates) stay on the shelf! LOL

You really are doing GREAT, m'dear, under the circumstances, emoticon on your continued weight loss--and I'm so pleased that you're still encouraged to make the nutrition changes work as much as possible for you! I know you'll set us all a good example--I'm so proud of you! And you should be proud of yourself, too, getting this far--and now another "game" begins...

If there is ANYTHING I can help with over the thousands of miles that separate us, just know it will be done, okay?

Kathy emoticon emoticon
