wow where has the time gone. Three more sleeps until Xmas and I am getting excited. The grandies came over yesterday so I have already had a ball playing with them. I know I have so much healthier and fitter than I was, still have a long way to go. The kids have been running and jumping at me and I can manage to catch them now. They tried this once before and I nearly fell over just had no strength.

I have learnt more things lately, like I can not have leg ham any more. Even though I only had a 50 gram pce, it put my sodium level up too high.

Also learnt since I have had my pedometer how little I walk. I am averaging about 5000 to 6000 steps per day. Funny I am more active now yet not active enough still.

first small goal, no ham.

So my goals for the next month is to get the steps up to an average of 7000 steps. This I hope to achieve by the end on January 2012.

Keep playing with the grandies.

Mery Xmas and a very Happy New year. May all your dreams come true in 2012.

love

It really isn't worth the trouble it causes, is it. Maybe you could substitute some lean fresh pork... I can't, if it's not the salty processed stuff it literally makes me ill. It's ham and bacon or nothing at all, so...
emoticon

But there are worse things, and you and I both know we'd rather give up the ham than go through dialysis! LOL

I'm so glad for you, when I think back to where you started when you first joined us... I am amazed, what a wonderful, determined and vital person you are!

Merry Christmas, dear friend!

HI Wendy, how wonderful to hear you have been having such a wonderful time with your grandkids - and great that you are keeping up with them! Woo Hoo! It's incredible the things we keep learning, such as needing to stop eating ham - I hope you can keep your sodium levels under control so your kidneys have less strain. You are doing so well - I can hardly walk at all at the moment, let alone 5000 steps...will post an updated blog in the near future.

Take care of yourself and have a wonderful Christmas and New Year, and a happy and healthy 2012!

Love and blessings, Nattacia

    Merry Christmas Wendy,

I see you are having the same issues as I am. Ctemple is right. Leslie Sansone has great walking dvd's out there. I used the one where you can do 1 or 2 miles. I've done the 1 mile a number of times before and tried the 2 mile yesterday. I got my steps up to 9400 between that and shopping at at warehouse store and other errands with my husband. Keep up the good work. Learning is part of the process and it looks like you've learned alot. Have fun with your Grandies. Maybe they can join you as you walk away the pounds.

Ah yes! Keep walking and increase the steps a few each day. It helps. I love my pedometer. Keeps me moving!

Sounds like a wonderful, beautiful Christmas for you with all the treimmings! Funny you should mention ham. That's what Mom wants for christmas dinner, so I am making it, but going to be making 3 different veggies and a salad, so that will be what I concentrate on as the ham throws my sodium for a loop too!

Have a wonderful holiday! You are amazing. emoticon

Oh Wendy, I can't have ham either because it doesn't agree with me. Still not one of my fav things, now if we're talking christmas mince pies and my home made superb cake, yes I feel deprived but such is life.
Did you ever consider using one of those walking dvds ( walking on the spot), like Lesley Sansone's ones? It would add steps to your day ( the ones for beginners).

You're doing just great and have done so very well this year. emoticon

Me? Well, I've finished with about the same weight that I was this time last year, but I have good plans for 2012 and hope to reach my goal weight by the time I see you next year.

Hi everyone, thank you for your lovely comments on my last blog, they were very much appreciated.

I had a loss for the week 800 grams 1lb 7 oz. First time I have lost anything in a while so I am very pleased. emoticon
It has been hard work.

I have had a lovely day, my grandies are over again, third weekend in the row, so lucky but I don't think they will be over for a fortnight. We had a ball just playing around. I will try to get them before Xmas, well I am hoping to.

Hi everyone, been to the Nephrologist specialist, I think it is positive. I have finally a name for the kidney disease I have, it is Alports which is familial problem, Before it has been anyone of about 4 different CKD. Asked if my sons have been tested and I said yes a while ago and because they are 32 and 26 and show no signs, they have both been cleared because males shows signs when they are teenagers. So great news for them and a relief for me because I have always been worried if I have passed it on to them.

My recent blood tests that I had have all shown a small improvement. Commented on the ones in September and asked what happened then and I told him that we don't know. So he is happy because he now knows what he has to work with.

I do now need to see him every 2 months for the next year instead of every 3 months but that okay because he come here so I do not have to travel.

So all is good and I am happy.

Been very busy today shopping trying to get organised for Xmas.

Hi everyone, I have been keeping myself very busy of late, just doing things. Been to exercises this morning and worked very hard. Received a compliment for the instructor that I am keeping up with them now, she also commented that I have lost weight. I think mainly I am toning up again but that is okay.

I have been going really good in the food department lately, so proud of myself.

Had a very lovely weekend with the grandchildren, they are the joy in my life. They keep me young and active LOL.

Off to see the Nephrologist tomorrow afternoon. Should be interesting in what he has to say. I will let you know tomorrow what the results are.

I am feeling really good, fit and well. I saw an Uncle yesterday and he commented I am looking really well.

Saturday 3rd Dec

Friday, December 02, 2011

I haven't got the results from my last blood test because I forgot to put my local doctors name on it so it went straight through to the Specialist. Silly me.

I have been keeping busy lately as I have a lot more energy now although i still do wear out by the end of the day, but that's okay.

Went to Adelaide Thursday for 2 doctors appointment, been cleared from one, so that is good news but gave me some advise so In need to remember that now.
The other appointment was to do with the kidney cancer I had last year and had a partial nephrectomy then. I am being very positive about that one too as he told me they thought I would have been on dialysis 6 to 12 months ago and I'm not. So he told me I am doing alright. So I was happy with both results. The next important one is for the Nephrologist which is next Friday the 9th. I hope he is happy too. LOL.

I have a had a very good week and my grandchildren are over so it is going to keep being nice. We are having a little belated birthday party for me with the grandchildren. It will be the first one that they have had for me. So going to be very special, one for the memory box. LOL.

I now have new scales as I still could not get the better and dearer scales to work. So ended up buying cheaper scales and they work fine, typical. I had put on a few kg's but at least I now know where I am in the weight department. So now I need to work on it to remove it again.

The only disappointing thing about the doctors's appointment is that they are pushing to have a lap banding and I don't really want to, so now I will have to prove them wrong. LOL.

So the main goal for 2012 is to lose 15 to 20 kgs 0r 33 to 44 lbs. So on toward next year but starting from now.

Have a great weekend.

Glad for the good news. Well, the lap banding is a consideration in the future, but nothing is etched in stone, as I always feel. So, give it your best shot to prove 'em wrong!! THEN if you feel that the right choice is surgery, you'll feel satisfied you did your best. That's all you can do.

HUGS!

thank you there has been some good points here but it will still be over 12 months before they would do it. I put my name down in Feb 2010, seen the dietician and the exercise physio a few times. Only just seen the doctor a couple of months ago and have another appointment in June and then possibly I will be put on the waiting list and that is about another 12 months so anything can happen in that time. I might not need it then hopefully.

    Wendy, great no-cancer news!

Normally, I would never encourage elective surgery. But, your situation is different. If having the surgery extends the life span of your kidneys, then it may be worth the risk. If you choose surgery it will not be a failure - it will be life giving.

Either way, we support you!
