Jealousy injures us with the dagger of self-doubt. ~Terri Guillemets

Nothing good can come from jealousy. So, why is it so hard to resist?
Jealousy destroys things, it doesn't build them up. It ruins relationships and hearts, yet, is almost impossible to resist.
I wish there was a quick fix for the green eyed monster, but alas, there isn't.

Jealousy can be a creep to us but we need to keep praying about it. I'm sure if you really took a look at what you were jealous of the feelings would go away. We need to be secure in ourselves.

Mandylove is right. Take a real deep breath of reality, because 9 times out of 10 there is probably nothing to be jealous about in the first place. It is as the quote said; self-doubt. emoticon

"As you get older it is harder to have heroes, but it is sort of necessary." ~ Ernest Hemingway

We all need someone to look up to, even as we get older. The people we view as heroes shape us, and make us people others can look up to.

My mom is my hero for many reasons. She got her GED when I was 3, she went back to school to get her RN when I was in Jr. High, she opened not one, but TWO businesses that help people in her community. She makes me want to be a better person.
I've been told (by people that know my mom) that I am just like her, in my need to help others, which is the biggest compliment I can receive.

I volunteer with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Colorado, and I hope that I am someone that my little sister can look up to. I hope that when she becomes an adult, she will look back and remember the things we did together, and pay it forward.

(It's crazy how routine gets all messed up when busy at work...eek!)

"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." ~Theodore Roosevelt

Small changes are the foundation for large ones. We don't need millions of dollars or fame to make changes. Help one person, and their change will help someone else, until it snowballs.
In the same thought, we don't need fancy gym equipment to exercise...a walk through the neighborhood, squats during commercials...any small movement can yield big changes.

If we had no faults of our own, we would not take so much pleasure in noticing those of others. ~Francois duc de la Rochefoucauld

I, for one, have a very hard time not looking at a person and finding their faults. I don't WANT to do it, and most of the time it is just a thought that pops in my head. I very rarely put words to these thoughts, but I AM human and it does happen.
I am very self conscious. I see my flaws as if they are magnified 100x, and I will often point them out before someone else can comment.
I know I find the fault in others as a way to try to make myself feel better on the inside. This is an awful, hurtful practice. This is something I have been working on for the better part of my adult life. I have spent many hours working on my faults, and trying to beautify myself so I can better appreciate the beauty in others. I want to live by the words - Imperfection is perfect.

For every negative you find about someone, try to think of a positive. Maybe instead of trying to cut out a habit, it would be easier to start adding IN a healthy habit. Pointing out something positive or good about someone will allow you to do the same for yourself. The good in life lingers more than the bad; you'll get there.

I understand what you are saying. It is definitely a way to make ourselves feel better. Since you are aware of it though, it is something that you can work on. It def takes practice. I do however think that it is something we all struggle with regardless of how "perfect" we are. It is something that only we can do something about. You are awesome for writing this as I see this in myself as well! Thanks!

Put your ear down close to your soul and listen hard. ~Anne Sexton

Have you ever walked in a labyrinth? It is a simple path that zigzags and turns until you get to the center. At first appearance, it is just that, a simple path. But, there is something sacred about the labyrinth. Before you know it, you are contemplating life, and you are faced with all your soul's desires.
If you are feeling a little off, take a few minutes, and walk with your mind wandering. Listen to your soul, it will never steer you wrong. (Heeding it, is a blog for another time.)

Listening to ourselves is good along with listening to God and what He has for us.
