Dealing with the unexpected

Monday, May 18, 2009

I am so glad I am healthier today than I was a month ago. This morning my car wouldn't start and I had to have it towed to two different repair shops because the first shop was not able to repair the problem. I missed an appointment, then had a bunch of emergency work to get done for my job. Talk about stress! A month ago, all of this happening on a Monday morning would have reduced me to tears and a giant hot fudge sundae for lunch.

Today it reduced me to an exasperated phone call with a friend that ended in laughter and a good workout a few hours later than I had intended and then sitting down and plowing through the work that had come up. All with a positive attitude and the confidence that it wasn't anything I couldn't deal with easily. My energy is still high and my mood is still good.

Yay me!

A really good week

Saturday, May 16, 2009

I had a really good week. I had some good workouts, drank lots of water, ate lots of healthy food, and I'm feeling great. The number on the scale hasn't budged in days, but I'm sure that's because I've been doing a lot of strength training and am building muscles!

I can't wait to have a strong and sexy body.

    You sure will have that.
I have two 10# Kettlebells and was looking on YOUTUBE for exercises. Boy, it is amazing some of the healthy bodies people have. It is just all the HARD WORK it takes to get back in shape once you have gotten out of it.

Making time for me

Monday, May 11, 2009

I have no shortage of things to do - I have more to do everyday than I could possibly get done and have developed the habit of just bumping stuff to the next day and the next day and the next until it's finally taken care of.

I work full time, I'm in the middle of starting my own company, my fiance just started a second business of his own in October and is still running the first - we're both just stretched to the limit. It got to be far too easy to skip the workouts and jet through the drive-through for a quick bite to eat instead of making a healthy choice.

I kept telling myself that it was only temporary until things settled down, but before I knew I gained a lot of weight and was feeling pretty tired and run down.

So here I am, determined to set aside a little time each day to take care of me and my body. I find that the workouts really do help with the stress - it's easier to sleep at night and I can handle a lot more when I have energy left at the end of the day. This is a good lesson - no matter what's going on, make time for yourself.

Glad your business is going well. I always thought if I'd had any business I'd have failed. BUT, I'd have been a good doctor. emoticon

Making peace

Sunday, May 10, 2009

Relationships my family have a long and troubled past. I've always had trouble fitting in with my family - if it weren't for the fact that we all looked alike, I'd swear I'd been switched at the hospital with some other family's baby.

It's important to learn to love the people close to us for who they are, not who you want them to be or who you wish they'd become. Everyone has something for us to learn. Be patient, be still, be open.

I know many people who didn't get along with their families and when they were grown they moved away and started their own. Depends on how bad your childhood was, I guess.

Beautiful.
I always imagine I'm adopted too..or from another planet, compared to my family!
I'm learning I don't have to be like them in order to love them deeply.

Fun workouts

Saturday, May 09, 2009

Walking on a treadmill at the gym is a pretty good workout, but it can be pretty boring to do just that all the time, even if you have an entertaining show on the television or great music to listen to.

So I'm looking for some fun workouts to mix in. I tried a fun dance workout this morning and worked up quite a sweat learning a dance routine. I'm pretty uncoordinated, so I'm sure I looked like a doofus doing it, but I had fun.

Do you have a wii? I used to use our wii fit,b ut it's not much of a workout, but it's good for yoga I think is it's best feature. It helps you know that you are doing the pose right or wrong.

But My Fitness coach for the wii, now THAT is a workout.

Also, I bought a pair of roller skates and I skate on a trail near where I live, and at the rink on other days.

I also bought a resistance cord and a dve that goes along with it, I LOVE working with that thing, I am discovering muscles I never knew I had. haha...

Good luck! :D
