Back from the Holidays

Where you challenged by the Holidays? I sure was. Though I do feel confident that I didn't oversplurge. Though I enjoyed some holiday foods, I was healthier than I've ever been keeping up with fruit and veggie intake. That is it wasn't as bad as in the past. Things like date and walnut cakes substituted for candy and the one time we bought cookies, they were the exceptional ones from the Italian bakery. Any "splurge" was strongly of the foodie variety.

Not that I'm jumping on the scale for any official weigh in--that comes Sunday. But my sneak peaks show I haven't gained more than 2 pounds. My resumption of effort should mean I'll be back losing soon.

Discovered I was low on that heart healthy nutrient. Realizing I didn't want to eat 5 bananas a day, I used my nutrition calculator to help. It appears crunchy vegetables like broccoli and carrots in reasonable servings will go a long way in the direction. So now, I'm looking forward to some crunchy snacks--maybe dipped in that tasty Trader Joe's Parmesan Ranch or some Bolthouse Farm Blue Cheese dressing. Both of those are low cal without being sour from too much vinegar.

    Potassium is something most people have the same problem, because I only have 1 kidney I have to take tablets to help mine.

Phase I starts strong

Phase I of my healthy lifestyle change is going deceptively easy. My goals are modest--track my food and get my eating into line, lose 10% of my body weight and regain enough strength so I can do my yoga along with the DVD.

Not bad really. And I'm already 1/4 of the way to this goal. and it is only week three! This is also when I usually start messing up. Hopefully not this time. Plus I'm making better losses on the weight side compared to gains on the strength side. But then, weight loss will be slow from now on, giving me plenty of time to get strong.
