1. I woke up at 5 am.

2. I laid down to go to sleep at 10 pm.

3. I had no special bedtime routine.

4. The last food I consumed before bed was Healthy Moussaka and Apple Crisp for dinner at 5 pm.

5. I walked for 20 minutes this evening at 7 pm.

6. I drank no alcoholic drinks today.

7. I drank 4 cups of coffee at 5 am.

8. I took my medications at 10 am.

9. I took no naps today.

10. I encountered no stressors today and expect none tomorrow.

11. I had normal hunger (2/4).

12. I felt wide awake (4/4).

13. I was calm (1/4).

1. It took me 5 minutes to fall asleep.

2. I woke up once when my alarm went off at 4 am, but went back to sleep until 6 am.

3. I got a total of 8 hours of sleep.


Official Better Sleep Challenge - Day 3

I'm sleeping better: 8 hours Thursday night and 5 hours last night. I'm keeping a private journal per the challenge next to my bedside. I drank too much coffee yesterday. I need to establish a bedtime routine to get myself ready for sleep.

Official Better Sleep Challenge - Day 1

My insomnia is back. emoticon I haven't slept well for a couple of weeks now. When I first joined SP emoticon , I made sleeping 8 hours per night a Fastbreak Goal. I went to bed at the same time and got up at the same time each day, including the weekends. I wanted to workout before it got hot emoticon, so I got up a 4 am emoticon and went to bed at 7:30 pm emoticon to be asleep by 8 pm. This worked very well for me. Then, I got lazy and started sleeping in on the weekends. emoticon This has been my downfall! Now, I'm going to bed too early, waking in the middle of the night, going back to bed, sleeping late and missing my workouts and it has become habit. Today I decided enough was enough. I did something positive about it and joined the Official Better Sleep Challenge. First things first, I'm keeping a sleep journal to see where all I'm going wrong so that I can fix it. I want to start getting up early again to workout. I want to get out of this morning exercise slump. emoticon emoticon

    I need to join the Official Better Sleep Challenge. Where can I go to find out about that? I have had a problem with insomnia for years. I really need to do what you are doing and go to bed and get up at the same time and see if that helps.

I'm in an Exercise Slump

It all started last week when an early morning doctor's appointment got in the way of my "crack-of-dawn" walk. If I don't walk early in the morning, I don't walk because it's still in the high 90's here in deep, south Texas. I tried an evening walk Sunday. It was still very warm out (85) and I didn't enjoy it as much as my morning walks, but it was doable and better than nothing. (I should keep that in mind for tonight!) Once I skipped Thursday's walk, I skipped Thursday's 10 minute strength training. And on it went. It's gone on too far! It's time to dig myself out of this rut! Right now, this moment, I pledge to workout today and not wait another moment! Right now, I'm going to do a bootcamp video emoticon and I pledge to walk again this evening. emoticon I've let my goal of sleeping 8 hours and getting up at 4 am EVERYDAY (including weekends) go by the wayside. I've gotten lazy! No more. I'm joining the Better Sleep Challenge. emoticon I know I can do this! So glad I wrote this blog! I found my motivation. Thank you SP! emoticon Thank You Jesus! emoticon

My Husband is Asking for Green Smoothies

I think I'm sparking my husband. Yesterday he got us some oranges and grapes from the fruit man and asked me to make him a green smoothie! I couldn't believe it! He's a meat and potatoes sort of guy and his desire for fresh fruits and vegetables surprised me. I ran to the market and got some spinach and am planning a green protein smoothie today for lunch. He's also walking with me in the mornings. He used to just come and watch over me. He's following the 5K Your Way training program for walkers. Hopefully in 5 weeks he'll be ready to race. He'll just miss the Trick or Treat Trot which I am doing. But I don't have to do it alone - he'll be there cheering me on as he does every morning. It sure is nice having a buddy to share my journey with.

    It is so much easier when your spouse is going along with your on all your healthy changes. I even have my son's occasionally asking for green smoothies and my middle son (22) started eating more healthy and exercising regularly, too.

    It is always nice to have a buddy to do things with. Especially nice that it is your husband. My husband is on a medically supervised diet and moving now into regular foods. It is nice that we are both dieting together. We are also exercising together and it is fun.
