My Biggest Problem (HELP)

Saturday, June 09, 2012

My biggest problem since joining SparkPeople is I can't seen to eat ENOUGH. I'm consistently under my calorie goals, sometimes by a little and sometimes by a lot. I eat lean protein, lowfat or nonfat dairy, and lots of fruits and veggies, but they just don't have enough calories in them. By the time I eat them, I'm too full for anything else. I'm trying to find denser calorie foods to make up the difference. I eat peanuts, peanut butter, almonds, or protein shakes trying add healthy calories to no avail. Any healthy suggestions? I'd be really grateful for some input. Thanks.

At the bottom of the nutrition tracker it gives ranges for each, protein, fats, carbs, see where you are low and try to add in foods that are in that category. I have the same problem and usually I am low in both fats and carbs since I am diabetic I have to limit those sugars and fats. Usually my calories are around 950 to 1050 which is also below the range of 1200 to 1450 but I just stick to my plan. The other thing I do is eat a dessert like banana half and half cup of yogurt, greek type with a packet of Stevia sweetener when my calories are in the 900 range. That helps. I also will have a bit of low fat ice cream. Dessert on a diet, who knew?

Hope this helps a little bit. emoticon

I Changed My Workout Routine

Friday, June 08, 2012

Today I swapped out my upper body and lower body workout routines to exercises using resistance bands. My core exercises remain the same as they are still challenging to me. I also changed my fitness plan to work out full body MWF. This way I can get in 3 workouts per week instead of the two I had planned last month, in which I alternated between core, upper body and lower body MON - SAT. I love my new resistance bands. They challenge me and there's lots of room for increased strength. I also decided to add a half mile (or 10) minutes to my 2 mile cardio routine so that I can warm up and cool down and walk 40 minutes at my target heart rate. I'm making progress.

I Sparked a Family Member on Facebook

Wednesday, June 06, 2012

I knew I had his attention when he "liked" my daily status on Facebook and liked my links. But I had no idea I was encouraging him. He wrote me to thank me for helping him decide to try and lose weight again. Of course I referred him to Sparkpeople. I was as excited to hear his news as he was to make the decision. In addiiton, my dear husband walked his first lap on his own this morning at the park. He usually just watches me to make sure I'm ok, but this morning he took off on his own. I'm so proud of both of them. It only took each of them a month of my sharing my journey with them. You never know who's watching and listening!

I Lost 2.6 Lbs Last Week

Sunday, June 03, 2012

Despite a foot injury that kept me out of cardio the last 10 days, I lost 2.6 lbs last week. Slow and steady is the name of the game. I can't help but wonder if I would have lost more with cardio. That's water under the proverbial bridge. Can finally begin cardio this week after walking 2 miles shopping on Friday. Didn't feel like 2 miles. I should go shopping more often! I am excited to get back in the game. I miss my morning walks and the sunrises in the park. I've continued getting 8 hours of sleep a night, most nights and kept my 4 AM wakeup time so that I could stay on a schedule. No sleeping in on the weekends or naps for me! I feel good. I love the quiet time in the wee hours of the morning. I'll be ready to meet the sunrise tomorrow morning as I take in the fresh air at the park. Here's to a healthy lifestyle!

Finally Walked

Saturday, June 02, 2012

Finally I can walk. Yesterday I went shopping and parked far from the stores to get some walking in. Besides walking in and out, I walked around the whole stores (Walmart and Academy). Got my 2 miles in. Strength trained before I went. I bought walking shoes, a sports bra, a resistance tubes kit, and a kitchen scale. Now I need to investigate more exercises for resistance bands and add them to my fitness tracker. Had a great time. We also found a steakhouse where I can go for my 50th birthday in July. I can hardly wait.

Mmmmm, steak dinner at a real steakhouse. I want to go too. LOL, you have a good dinner for your birthday. Kitchen scales by weightwatchers is what I have and is very accurate. But it was twenty five dollars. I can't get along without it. I weigh my potatoes and track them by the ounce. I couldn't believe how under counted the calories of a potato are. You look at a potato and you just don't see the ounces of it. And you'll get 8 ounce one and call it a 5 ounce one, that's a sixty calorie difference. I weigh everything when I am being good. That's when I really do well.
Enjoy all your new goodies. emoticon
