Moving on Down!

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

It was a thrill to see a "5" as the middle number on the scales today! Just 3.5 pounds to go to goal weight, but I know it may take 3 or more weeks to get there: the weight comes off much more slowly at this point. However, wearing a size six (six!!: vanity six, but still a six!!) skirt yesterday was also very encouraging -- and it wasn't tight, wasn't uncomfortable. So the inches are coooperating too. It may be that when I get to goal weight I decide that it wouldn't hurt to peel back a few more: lean body mass is best to discourage recurrence.

Treatment schedule continues -- I've now completed 4 out of 16 -- and although a bit fatigued, so far nothing that can't be handled.

All in all: feeling good and enjoying the great people I've met through SparkPeople. Thanks, all.

You are such an inspiration. I know the feeling of getting off those last few pounds. They seem to be super glued on, but they must go. I know we are willing to work through this barrier. emoticon

And YES, 50 somethings CAN still where bikinis. That is my goal!! Hey, maybe we should get our belly buttons peirced too! You go first.

You rock my friend! emoticon

Feeling good and grateful

Thursday, June 11, 2009

This has been a red letter day! Completed month one yesterday: I'm down a further three pounds -- five to go to goal weight. It is doable and -- with a lot of support -- I seem to be doing it. Much more fun rooting in my closet with clothes fitting more comfortably for sure.

Plus -- most appreciative of the kind folks at my hospital who made my day one of radiation absolutely as pleasant an experience as it could possibly be. And increased my optimism that the whole course of treatment lying ahead is also doable.

An attitude of gratitude sounds very cheesy but: that's how I'm feeling today.

I like "an attitude of gratitude"! Not cheesy at all. We should have that more often.

Take care of yourself, my friend. Keeping you in my thoughts.

Getting close to a month

Tuesday, June 09, 2009

I'm almost at the one month point -- and am finding this approach to tracking food and exercise very helpful. More than half way to my goal weight: it's slow but steady -- and feeling confident that I will get there.

I am a slow learner so it took me three months and a half to start tracking the food.
The fitness was easier as soon as I started doing them I began tracking .The food just couldn't find how to do it.

New Profile Image and Spark Page

Sunday, June 07, 2009

It was fun today to work on finding a juicy watermelon profile image and watermelon wallpaper for my spark page, and then adding a few pictures. Many thanks for the encouragement to do this from SP member JOPAGH. And: I finally managed (with much help from my son) to down load the virtual weight loss figure from Prevention.com. This is a terrific motivational tool to remind me where I was in 2001. Every time I open my page I'll see the destination to which I was headed back and reinforce my determination to keep on tracking. In four weeks on SparkPeople I have halted my weight creep and reversed it by nine pounds, so I'm well on the way back to goal weight. I'm not expecting a smooth path (figuring out how much I can eat to maintain is going to be a whole new learning curve) but I will never permit that excess pudge to accumulate again!

My new watermellen pink is so me! emoticon

Love your new page! My youngest daughter got a job at university this summer so didn't come home. I don't think I can figure out the wallpaper on my own. Yours looks great!

Nice to put a face with the name. emoticon

General uptick in mood

Saturday, June 06, 2009

Tracking my nutrition and exercise plus the support from other Spark people is definitely having a positive effect on my mood. I'm a cheerful type anyhow: but this is a good place.

Took some measurements today -- lost inches (neck, hips, waist) indicate incremental improvement.

The tracking is so important and amazingly it is the only thing that works for most of us.

Glad you are in your happy place. I'll get my dog walk in through Temptation Alley this morning, with a bike ride this afternoon.

Agree that tracking + support = progress.

Have a great weekend,
