Smacked in the face with a reality check :O

Monday, January 09, 2012

This morning was the first time I've stepped on a scale since before our first family Christmas (That was December 10th, so about a month ago). While I felt like I've been pretty good over the holiday season, obviously that hasn't been the case. Staring back at me this morning: 165.8! I am UP 15 pounds. Are you kidding me?!?!?

Starting today I'm back on the horse 100%.

1) I WILL track every bite that goes into my mouth
2) I WILL make sure to hit my calorie burn goal of 2500/per week
3) I WILL cut down on the snacking between meals.
4) I WILL weigh myself each week.

To be fair, we had my son's birthday party yesterday at a pizza place, so I know I have a fair amount of sodium in my system, but I also know that that isn't THE ONLY issue.

Looks like you are approaching it the best way possible - you know the cause and you're not boo-hooing in a bowl of ice cream. You've got a plan for success and your body will cooperate - it has a memory, you know!

I gained 30 pounds last year. It was quite a bummer. I'm finally trying to do better now. I've lost 30 pounds. I'm joining you in getting back on plan. We can do this.

I am up about the same amount, and it sure is a kick in the but I think I was in a bit of denial because I saw the number go UP and UP without really doing anything about it (I swear, I am a slave to the scale).

You can do this. I have faith in you!

I can imagine how you felt! Sometimes - especially during the holidays - we tend to forget about the nutrition part of our healthy way of life and focus more on the fitness part. "If I exercise every day, I can have one more snack, it can do no harm", we think. But he who said that losing and maintaining weight is 80% food and 20% exercise probably knew better! But you have the way to make those 15 pounds disappear, Jess. You've done it before, you can do it again. And I'm sure you WILL!!!

What a shock to gain in a short time!
I am sure if you stick with your plan you will see the changes back just as quickly.
I am asking myself what can I do differently, what did I do that worked? For next holiday season.

Shocking isn't it how fast we can pile the weight on and how hard it is to get it off!
GEtting on the scale daily is what works for me. I had a time when I decided not to do that and the same thing happened to me that you experienced! Down right discouraging isn't it? I love you determination and believe that you will once again get that weight down! emoticon

find foods that work with YOUR body chemistry.

i make this mixture for breakfast , lunch and dinner. i have lost 34 pounds .

i cook 4 large portabella mushrooms sliced, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, 4 large onions sliced, 2 large green peppers, 3 cans green beans, 1 can rutabaga and 5 sliced chicken sausages. find foods that work with your chemistry. i created this meal on my own. i can't seem to loose weight if i eat any grain products. so one day i experimented.

it makes enough for at least 4 days, three meals a day. total cost is 12 dollars. i buy the mushrooms and chicken at sams club. sounds crazy but it taste good and most importantly it's working. i'm not hungry . if i feel the urge to cheat i go get a fork full of my mixture. i chew very slowly as to enjoy my meal.

i have added a small banana and grapes for my snacks and to be a fix for my sweet tooth.

you can add other foods into your menu. just know what works with your body chemistry.

I have gone from 198 to 164 pounds. i can now fit into a size 14 comfortably. i feel so much better. think of carrying a 2 year old around your waist every minute of every day. no i am not done. on the obese chart i have gone from being obese to just plain fat. my goal is to drop another 22 pounds. then i will be happy, healthy and never allow myself to get in this condition again.

one might say eating the same food every day would get boring. not true. when you look in the mirror and can see the difference it's worth

i went to the doctor. for the first time in a long time i was not ashamed to get on the scale. i did not have to get beet red because doctor said i was over weight. it felt GREAT.

2012 Goals

Monday, January 02, 2012

As you might already know from my last blog, my New Year's Resolution this year is to run a full marathon. I took that first step by registering from Grandma's Marathon on June 16th in Duluth, MN. I have butterflies just thinking about it!

In addition to the marathon goal, I decided that for 2012 I'm going to attempt to log 1,000 miles this year. It's a lofty goal for me, but I've been reassured by many other runners here on SP. In order to achieve this goal, I need to average 19.2 miles per week. Obviously I'll be ramping this up as the marathon gets closer, but HOPEFULLY I'll knock this one out of the park!

I'm also going to attempt P90X. My husband ordered P90X2 recently, and I'm going to do the "fit test" today to see where I stand. I am a little worried since I can't do a pull up, but I know there are modifications for a lot of the exercises using bands. This brings me to my next 2012 goal--to be able to complete a pull up.

Here's to a successful 2012!

Once again stepping WAY out of my comfort zone.

Friday, December 30, 2011

As I was kicking around ideas for New Year's Resolutions, I kept coming back to the same idea..."What if I attempt a FULL marathon?"

In the past, New Year's Resolutions have been the enemy. I always started out strong but within 6 weeks I was back to old habits and had burned out. That is, until December of 2009 when I learned about spark people. My resolutions for 2010 were to start running again and to cut out soda. I managed both.

December of 2010 brought my next "goal". In 2011 I vowed to run 500 Miles in 2011. I achieved that goal in October. I can't even begin to explain the pride I felt.

As I look to what 2012 has in store, I couldn't get a full marathon out of my head. On Wednesday I took the plunge and put my money where my mouth is--I registered for Grandma's Marathon in Duluth, MN. June 16th I will complete my first marathon!

I'm still kicking around the idea of a mileage goal for 2012. I know that 500 miles is totally attainable again, and I'm toying with 1000 miles for 2012, but that number just seems so high! I've got about 48 hours to decided if I'm going to shoot for it or not. I think 750 is more feasible, but Hey! Go big or go home, right?

Happy New year!

Be sure to get your hotel or whatnot booked quick though if you're not staying at a friend's or relative's place. Those fill up FAST (according to a friend of mine who has been to that marathon many times).

Good luck, and I think if you're training for a full marathon, 1000 miles in 2012 is not too far a stretch! You can make it a range even, having your goal be 750-1000 :o}

funny, i just decided that one of my goals for 2012 is to run a full marathon. i ran my first half this past may and am registered for my second this coming april. we have a local full in september, which gives me plenty of time. so i'll be cheering for you!!

if you're going to train for a full, you probably won't have too much trouble hitting 1000. go for it!

Good luck, all! I have heard great things about that marathon. Maybe I'll do it in 2013. Started to train for a marathon and hit a wall at trying to run 15 miles so I guess I need some more base running. Maybe it's because I started running when I was 61 and that was two years ago. :) Just need to run for one more year, I think, then try it.

I can so relate to this!! I took the plunge months ago signing up for it. EVERYDAY is a fear battle. I have 308 days 14 hours and 18 mins til my marathon. I have a countdown on my desktop!!! I am fearful beyond belief!! It does not help that it is so far away so all I can do right now is sit back and THINK about it which makes it so much worse. 1000 miles is my goal for the year. It is totally doable period let alone with marathon training you would get it in a heart beat!! :) You will totally ROCK this!!!! So excited for you.

10/20/30 GO!

Tuesday, November 22, 2011

My favorite circuit class at the YMCA has gone away because there is no one to teach it anymore...and a new class has popped up in it's place. It's called 10/20/30 GO! I've never been to it before, but it's described as: Warm up, cardio, and a mix of core, pilates, and toning…that’s what you get when you are ready to go! Come to this class if you want to get here and get it all in an hour.

8:30 I'll be there!
