And a bridal show to go to :)

I couple of weeks ago I updated my spark status to say that I was emceeing a bridal show. I thought I'd share a photo. It was a fun day for me since I got to borrow a dress from a bridal shop, and have my hair and makeup done for me. I felt completely pampered, and for the first time in a long time, BEAUTIFUL.

My job was to read a script that described in detail, all of the dresses on the runway. Not too scary for me since I'm a radio DJ. Little did I know that the bridal shop planned for me to walk the runway too. Yes, ME, the girl who just 10 months ago weighed in at 214 pounds.


Thank you SPARK! Without Spark People I would have NEVER been able to do this!

Since I began my FOCUSED weight-loss journey, running has been my outlet. If I'm stressed, I go for a run. This has replaced my old bad habit of shoveling the food in whenever I'm stressed out.

Since yesterday morning when I was told by the doc to stay off my foot until Sunday I have wanted to binge SO SO BAD. But guess what? I HAVEN'T! I picked up a 3-pack of sugar free gum instead! I've been chomping away. Everytime the urge to go to the cupboard strikes, I pop in a piece of gum instead.

It might seem like a small victory, but for me it's HUGE. In the past this would have been an excuse to consume a ridiculous amount of calories.

So far so good!

    Congratulations on such an awesome accomplishment! It's so difficult to NOT do the things we used to do in order to deal with difficult emotions or situations. That's AWESOME! You're focused and determined to continue your new and healthy lifestyle! I'm so proud of you!

P.S....have you tried the new Extra Key Lime Pie flavored sugar free gum? I'm pretty sure it's the most delicious gum I have EVER encountered. No joke...it's LIFE CHANGING!!! HAHA! Seriously go pick yourself up a pack! :)

Being able to shake the urges of that little voice inside your head telling you to shove crud down your throad is a talent! Great job acknowledging it and staring it right in the face and saying "NO WAY, JOSE!!"

I think you're incredible - and keeping off that lil footsie of yours will have you ABLE to do that MONSTER DASH in your costume!! You're gonna have so much fun - and you'll be so proud for listening to the doc and for not consuming junk along the way! Look how far you've come =)

    Yay for gum! Other ideas ... a shower/bath, sit-ups, having your hubby massage your feet, drinking water with Crystal Lite (they have a lot of good flavors), listening to music, contacting a friend, putting on yummy-smelling lotion.

    It doesn't sound small to me - hang in there!! Remember that diet has SO MUCH to do with weight loss, and that not exercising for 4-5 days will NOT stop your progress!! I think you are awesome :)

I am having foot pain. A LOT of foot pain.

Monster Dash is about 1 month away and I am scared. I'll be honest, I'm FREAKING OUT!

It all started on Friday during a run; I felt some discomfort and pushed through it...afterward I paid the price. I spent the next 24 hours icing and keeping it up. Then, like an IDIOT, I went for a run on Sunday. NOT GOOD. I made it through, but it hurt A LOT.

I took yesterday off and kept icing it. Today it feels better, but still not 100%. I have a friend who is a chiropractor so I gave him a call because I was thinking it might be Plantar Fasciitis. After chatting with him about where on the foot the pain is, he told me it sounds more like a STRESS FRACTURE.

Did I mention Monster Dash is coming up?

Now I'm wrestling with going to the doctor...I know I should and that I'd tell my spark friends to go, but part of me is scared of what the doctor will say.

    Go to the doctor. You do not want to end up with a permanent injury and lifelong problems. There will always be other races.

    I had a similar issue this spring about 6 weeks before the Gary Bjorklund half. I went to the doctor and they couldn't see anything on the x-ray. I went to PT, find out I had some weak muscles and they gave me some exercises to try. Eased back in to running right before the half and had a successful race. Since you've done the distance before, I think that helps.

    I think that's only normal to be afraid of what you might hear, but, as your sparkfriend - I'm gonna give you the same advice you'd give me, love! Please, please go - sooner than later - just think - you might be walking around on it causing more damage - and that's the LAST thing we want...The sooner you go, the sooner the recovery.

I'm so sorry and I really do understand how dissapointing an injury is when you've been training up for such a great run. (I'm still marveling over your Go Commando! lol) - I hurt my achilles this year in March and had my first 5k scheduled and all registered for in April which totally sucked...I got the green light to do a 5k this fall (which is NOW eeeek!) - anyhoot - the point is, better to know, than not to know. Better to start the recovery process now than later when it's so much worse.

(((HUGS))) to you and my prayers that it might just be something little.

    Rest, rest, rest!! If the pain continues, definitely go to the doctor.
Don't worry about training for the Monster Dash. You have run that distance many times, so you know you can do it. You just need your foot healed and feeling good by that time.
When I was training for my first marathon, I got Mononucleosis one month before the date. I stopped running and working out COMPLETELY for a whole month so I could get better. I did a couple of short runs the week before the marathon, and then I did the marathon. To date that was my best marathon time yet.
Moral of the story - sometimes rest and healing is actually more important than diligent training. You can do the distance. You're running with friends. There will be an audience and it will be fun. So if you stop running today, the Monster Dash will still be fine. I promise.

    Oh no!! I agree w/the others that you should stay off your foot - let it rest. If it doesn't feel better after a few days - see the doctor but hopefuly, you'll have the similiar experience as RUNTRILAUGH did and be ready for the Monster Dash!!! emoticon

    Even the doctors can be wrong....

Last year (2009) a month before my first half marathon, they thought I had a stress fracture in my right leg. It was all the typical signs, tender in one area, slight indication on the xray, etc.

I stayed off it for over a week, then decided to do some light Zumba. Didn't put weight on that leg, and sat out the songs that were "more legwork."

You know what... by the end of the class, my leg felt great!

Maybe its just the muscles are cramped or something... Go ahead and go to the dr. See what he says, but most of all, stay off it for a little while.

You know what you need to do. Just thought I'd "Share" my story in hopes it might help a little...

I did ALL of the obstacles. It was a ton of fun and we just got word that the organization that put this on had such a good response, that they are contemplating putting on another Adventure 5K in May....SIGN ME UP! :)

GO COMMANDO 5K Adventure Race 09.18.10

Yesterday I ran my first mud run/ adventure race. It. Was. AWESOME! A 3.1 mile, 10 obstacle course that was all military themed. I didn't know what to expect, and it was more challenging than i anticipated. The race was basically set up in a pasture and it felt like we ran hills the WHOLE time. The obstacles included:

Hay Fever Ridge--A bunch of round hay bales that we had to climb up, across, and hop down.

Log Jam--a big pile of logs that we had to get up and over.

The Serpent--a HUGE hill that zig-zagged back and forth for what felt like an eternity. IT WAS STEEP!

Black Holes--climbing under a dark bunker.

Into the Wild--up and down some steep hills between pine trees on a trail covered in pine needles; we did this twice.

Over the Falls--a huge conduit pipe that we slid through onto a plastic tarp and got VERY MUDDY. I didn't stop until well into the mud.

Run the Sahara--a "sand dune" area that was tough to get through.

Mine Field--think football agility drill: stepping in tires (I fell LOL! It was slippery!)

Fire in the Hole--hurdling over some flaming logs

and last but not least:
Swamp Commando-- It's exactly what it sounds like! I did great for about 5 steps...then I got sucked into the mud to mid shin and dropped to my knees! It was AWESOME though!

It took me a little over 33 minutes to complete the race with all the obstacles and I felt so STRONG afterward! There is no way I could have done that even 3 months ago. I can't wait for the next one!

I've heard of that race before - what a test of fitness - and your endurance to koko even when "stuck in the mud" - LITERALLY! How cool is that??!! Now...I have to see pics of you all icky and covered in mud, girl!!! Incredible - congrats for being so fit to be able to do such a fun, yet grueling competition!!
