Not perfect but I'm definitely better

Tuesday, October 04, 2011

I realized yesterday when I came across an old ID picture while I'm not where I want to be wait and fitness wise I have come a long way. I no longer spend full days doing nothing, I run, kayak, bike etc. I no longer eat like every day is a holiday, I actually eat portions and healthy food. I enjoy indulgences so I have found balance too. But today as I was finishing a 22 mile bike ride with the boyfriend I realized how far I have come and while I know I still have plenty of work ahead of me I am getting there one step at a time.

A Really Great Day

Monday, October 03, 2011

Today was, well it was darn near perfect. Got home from work at 6 got to bed by 7 and up at 930 ( before the sleep police comment I'm a night shifter who flip flops on my days off. I woke up early so I could get my new bike a 2011 SpecializedDolceElite. It was worth every penny it goes fast, now I'm for sure ready for next tri season. I got back and met up with the person who is doing Mike's birthday present will talk about that after the 20th. Then it was a 5 mile walk with my dogs and my friend. When I got back Mike and I took the bike for it's inagural ride, 14 miles later I'm sitting here realizing I had a great day!

Bike shopping, p90x, and 70.3 fever

Thursday, September 29, 2011

I am now totally consumed with doing a 70.3 I have been drooling over bikes I can't afford, signing up for triathlon magazines and websites. I even put in for a bike bike fit a 5 hour drive away. I'm restless right now, so I got out of bed did some P90x and jumped on spark. I'm hoping this motivation continues all winter I'm sure it will. I have determined triathlon is if not the most expensive personal sport it's definitely a top contender, but alas it's my new love affair and in a lot of ways it's an investment in my health. Better get off spark for the night and attempt to sleep probably going to dream about 70.3

Of course, once you get a good bike you should be able to maintain it for a while. Shouldn't the cost amortize over time? Am I not helping? :) Excited for your triathlon journey!

The Year of The Pig starts today!

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

Today is the 2 year anniversary of my fitness journey, on Sept 27th 2009 I started a little video series called P90X I completed it in December. Started up round 2 and then decided in February 2010 to start training for the Chicago Marathon. I completed a couple of half marathons and then survived the Chicago marathon on 10/10/10. In July of 2011 I decided to sign up for a sprint triathlon which I completed on September 25, 2011. I want to do a full Ironman before I am 35, but first a half Ironman, the Pigman Long Course. My New Year begins today, my new challenge is in front of me, I'm setting up a training schedule as we speak, working on losing 60-70lbs, while getting fit and lean to kick some triathlon butt. The Tri bug has bitten me, my triathlon over the weekend was super motivating, honestly it was what I was hoping Chicago was going to be for me, but Chicago left me beat up and struggling with motivation. The Pig is mine!!! There will be no loss of motivation this time, there will only be determination and stubborness, cause I am stubborn when it comes to accomplishing a goal.

I'm a triathlete!

Monday, September 26, 2011

Sunday I competed in the Peregrine Charities sprint triathlon Athena division. I didn't get first like I was hoping to, but I did take second. I completed the course in1:54:24, 5 and a half minutes faster than my predicted time of 2 hours and a lot faster than the 2:15 that I was thinking was going to be more realistic. I did the swim in 13:21, the bike in 57:37 and the run very poorly in 40:11. The swim was quite chilly with it taking at least 100m for my body to stop feeling numb, making it worse was the frigid 46 degree air temp. After a decent but less than stellar transition of 2:33 I was off and biking here I felt like I was making decent time, it was a very chilly and my mostly wet body was freezing and my feet were numb but it went a little better than I had anticipated, I tend to struggle in a headwind. I also struggled with back cramps most likely caused by the cold. I made it into transition racked the bike and was off thanks to a lack of shoe changed I was out much quicker at 40:8. Then it was on to the run where my feet felt like they were going to fall off and my back continued to cramp but I kept moving forward wogging my way to the finish. Now I can truly claim I'm a triathlete! And of course I love them and have found a new addiction!
