I'm a triathlete!

Monday, September 26, 2011

Sunday I competed in the Peregrine Charities sprint triathlon Athena division. I didn't get first like I was hoping to, but I did take second. I completed the course in1:54:24, 5 and a half minutes faster than my predicted time of 2 hours and a lot faster than the 2:15 that I was thinking was going to be more realistic. I did the swim in 13:21, the bike in 57:37 and the run very poorly in 40:11. The swim was quite chilly with it taking at least 100m for my body to stop feeling numb, making it worse was the frigid 46 degree air temp. After a decent but less than stellar transition of 2:33 I was off and biking here I felt like I was making decent time, it was a very chilly and my mostly wet body was freezing and my feet were numb but it went a little better than I had anticipated, I tend to struggle in a headwind. I also struggled with back cramps most likely caused by the cold. I made it into transition racked the bike and was off thanks to a lack of shoe changed I was out much quicker at 40:8. Then it was on to the run where my feet felt like they were going to fall off and my back continued to cramp but I kept moving forward wogging my way to the finish. Now I can truly claim I'm a triathlete! And of course I love them and have found a new addiction!

It's time

Saturday, September 24, 2011

I'm ready for the race this weekend, but I am mostly looking past this weekend I am ready for that next challenge and the biggest part of that is I am ready to lose the weight. I'm going to do so by getting myself ready for a half iron in august in order to be successful I can't slack off like I did last winter it is time I stop making excuses for winter laziness and get myself in the best shape ever!

You can totally do this. If you are mentally conditioned to do a tri you can mentally condition yourself to lose the weight. It the same focus just in a different area! You got this.

It's never too early to start training for the next race.

Friday, September 23, 2011

While an Ironman is definitely in the works for me sometime in the future, post triathlon on Sunday, I am going to bask in the glow of checking off a SPRINT triathlon done, next will be an Olympic and Half Iron depending on some life circumstance both should occur in 2012, also a Marathon and some of my usual half marathons will get done in 2012, I'm not gonna lie I missed the he!! that marathon training was.
The most important thing I am going to do following this race and throughout the winter is not lose my training, last winter I got a bit lazy (okay understatement) I worked out but what barely constituted working out and I didn't eat properly like I did when I was training, so I am going to focus on pure fitness all winter (notice I don't say weight loss- too much stress in trying to lose weight). I am also taking up cross country skiing this winter which will hopefully bring my cardio to new levels completely.
First things first complete the tri and then get my butt back to work on Monday, I got a lot of fitness to start improving.

Why yes I am STOKED for my first Triathlon.

Thursday, September 22, 2011

Today I actually got really pumped, I have been excited but I am just really STOKED! as of today. Mike and I got the bikes ready, and he readied his spaceman Spiff helmet (Calvin and Hobbs fans know) and super fast crazy evil badass racing bike, have I mentioned he is a total triathlon stud...I think he has been more excited for me and busier making sure the bike I am riding is in awesome peak performance, okay in addition to being a super triathlon stud he's just a plain super awesome stud emoticon. I'm not excited to be seen in a wetsuit in public but hey it does smooth out some of the ahem wrinkles if you will. Race report soon and at least an update on my survival this weekend. Also from spark doing the same race and he upped himself to Olympic distance one of my fave sparkers Aaron LEFTCIRCLES will be doing this race as well while riding Leftcycles and his awesome daughter is doing the kids tri as well. I think he may have been a positive influence on her emoticon!
