MAJOR MOTIVATION

Friday, July 15, 2011

In my quest to become a triathlete I have been watching videos on swimming, transitions, gear, bikes, and tonight videos on the Ironman. I have wanted to do one since I was in high school and tonight I got the bug again and now I am old enough and wise enough to train smartly for one, so while I'm not doing one this year, I WILL be doing one in 5 years minimum, that's my goal now by the time I am 35 I wanna be doing an Ironman!!!

AWESOME - and I totally know you can and will do it. I'm not quite ready to commit to an Ironman distance just yet - but 2 weeks from tomorrow is my first official outdoor Triathlon - Sprint distance, but I'm THRILLED and so excited.

I'll be watching and can't wait to hear more about your training!

Quick update

Wednesday, July 13, 2011

Monday I did a run after I went kayaking, kayaking upstream mind you emoticon. Tuesday was gardening in the morning and Hiking at WildCat Den by Muscatine Iowa, a very cool place to visit. Today was a swimming workout the last time I swam I did 700m, today was pretty good workout overall I did 1200yds. I did 300 warm up (with breaks and focusing on form) followed by 800 continuous followed by a 100 cool down. I was really pleased with doing 800 continuous especially since the swim leg of the tri is 500m. Now I just gotta be able to translate it to open water and hopefully speed up in the process, I'm still not very fast but its getting smoother. One point of form for me to work on is keeping my head down I noticed my neck getting stiff cause I keep my head up slightly.

I remember hearing about that ride 3 years ago when I was in no kind of shape. I thought those people were crazy. Now, I'm thinking, "Yes, I have to do it one day!" Things change, eh? You'll make it through Day 7! I'm rooting for you!

FIRST BRICK COMPLETE!!!

Sunday, July 10, 2011

After work this morning I hopped on the bicycle and rode 11 miles at a decent speed, need to work on the bike to reach top speed, (I have a whole other set of gears I could be going through but need to fix the shifter). Then I immediately got on the bike and ran (questionable) 2 miles. I put questionable because I found out the reason they call them bricks, my legs felt heavy and almost like they were not part of my body, so I proceeded to run a very slow 2 miles, about the pace I could do when I first started running. The super positive is I completed it and I will get better with each successive brick. Definitely a key part of training for a triathlon!

wow awesome job. I was planning on doing my first brick, but my PT said to lay off the running. Oh well, if not this triathlon the next one! Keep up the great work. You are really motivating and so glad to watch someone go through what I want to do!

WAY TO GO! It definitely is a funny feeling to run after biking. I just completed my first training brick a few weeks ago. Awkward feeling in the legs!
I am sure it will get better.

Today's swim

Saturday, July 09, 2011

Not as good as the other day I had moments of brilliance followed by moments of floundering, mostly the floundering was when I was getting tired. I managed 7 100 meter well sprints for the sake of my swimming at this point, but rather slow. I am quite optimistic though since this is only my 3rd swim outing and I felt it went fairly well, can't wait for my Swedish goggles to get here I am working with a broken found pair right now, they do the trick, sort of...I definitely need to get a swim cap though or I will have green hair by the end of this!

What matters the most is that you are out there and each day you are progressing! Keep it up! Before you know it you will swimming like a fish. Maybe a green-haired fish, but a fish nonetheless.
