Swimming breakthrough and first real brick coming up.

Saturday, July 09, 2011

On Wednesday I had a swimming breakthrough, finally my technique seems to be clicking, I have only had 3 swimming sessions so perhaps I shouldn't make it sound like whew finally. I was just happy to finally figure out what I am doing and being able to feel myself gliding through the water and breathing much easier, made me feel a lot less stressed about my upcoming triathlon. Sunday I do my first real brick, I did some mini bricks on Tuesday which involved riding a mile or so and then getting off and running, and one that included swimming then getting on the bike to run. For those following this that are wondering about a brick, a brick is when you block together a couple of your events in order to practice transition from one to another. Those that have rode their bike for a long time and then get off to walk and find their legs seem caddywhumpous (not sure on the spelling of that) will understand. This will mentally and physically prepare me for that transition. On sunday I am doing 11 miles on the bike and then running 2 I have a feeling I will sleep quite well after work and my workout on sunday morning.

Good question Roxy. I am contemplating a tri myself. I was going to do my frist brick this morning. A 5-6 mile bike ride and then a 2 mile run, but physical therapist told me esterdya I can't run for a few weeks. CRAP. So I will def. be interested to see how your first brick goes.! Keep up the great focus and work

I wanted to know I am doing my first tri also in September are you going to wear a tri suit for all 3 legs of the race? I am trying to figure that out now.. for timing reason I thought it might be easier but I will be soaking wet doing another event...

Loving training for a Triathlon

Monday, July 04, 2011

I absolutely love it because its always changing. I still wanna do another marathon but it is so nice to have the variety and not have to stress about 20 milers etc, think I may have found my true athletic calling and Mike says my swimming isn't as horrible as I think LOL! Gonna rock a swim/bike brick tomorrow morning.

hmmm, im going to be watching this closely. I might be following in your footsteps.... im horribly ignorant as to the terminology of the sport but i have the heart. im a strong cyclist, a so-so runner , but the jury is out on the swimming. I havent swam in 20 years and need to find a place to train. like you i really feel a pull in this direction.

I decided....

Thursday, June 30, 2011

to do a triathlon instead of a marathon. Its a sprint tri 500m swim, 15.8 mi bike and 5k run. The swim is a bit intimidating at this point but I know I can get it done! I now begin training and having a set race/goal is going to help me with my weight loss goals.

That's awesome! I just talking to one of the physicians telling her I want to do a triathlon and she suggest that I start off doing a sprint. I'm going have to look into it. Good luck on a strong finish. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Triathlon training is fabulous for the body because the variety reduces the risk of injury (in my personal experience, at least).

    Good luck!
I was a swimmer for 15 years, it's not easy but so long as your comfortable in the water 500m is not bad at all - I PROMISE!!

Good choice! A marathon really beats you up. So many people I know get injured training for their marathons. (I'm a running but would do triathlons myself if only I could do a decent stroke!)

My dilemma

Saturday, June 25, 2011

To run a marathon or not run a marathon, I can't stop kicking the idea around, I had decided that I wasn't going to now I am back to I am going to, oh what to do what to do. I just can't decide if I can commit to it this year, I want to but there are oh so many things going on. But I want to run one, no I don't, yes I do...I just don't know....I guess I just start out training for it and then decide if I am committed enough to go the distance this year.

You can do it but be sure to leave enough time to train!

I agree with SHEILAB64. You could train for it and see how it works out. I had a similar situation, but it wasn't if I was going to run one, but when. So many of my runner friends were asking me how come I hadn't done one? Oh, you can do it! I have no doubt about being able to do it, but I wanted to be ready and do other things first. I wanted a solid base before I took on the challenge. I will do my first official marathon in November and I will have 17 months of base building. Make sure YOU want to do it and if so.......DO IT!!!

Sounds like a plan - the training certainly won't hurt you and you can always postpone until next one.

Back from vacation 8lbs lighter!

Friday, June 24, 2011

That is definitely motivating and I now plan to continue losing using the motivation and the tools/tricks from vacation that helped me lose.
1. I was busy a lot and constantly moving.
2. I ate healthy and didn't mindlessly snack(see number 1!)
I am back down to the weight I ran the marathon at, not my lightest but this definitely has helped jumpstart my motivation again. I will be doing a vacation recap when I get pictures loaded into my computer. I will say this it was awesome with lots of hiking and great views, be jealous, very jealous lol!
