Walking pace

Tonight while doing my walking I stopped at 45 minutes to see if I made my goal of 5300 steps approximately2.5 miles. I was about 200 steps short of my goal. At first I was disappointed but then I realized that when I started this adventure and started using a pedometer I was only able to do about 3000 steps in the same time frame. After realizing this I felt a lot better and I know that the next time I will get my goal and honestly I will beat it, mostly because I am competitive even with myself but also because my fitness is improving a lot and my work pants are fitting better making it easier to take all those steps...

    Isn't it amazing how we get so used to having achieved a goal that we forget and then feel disappointed when we fall short???? You've improved your physical wellbeing so much that you've almost taken it for granted - You did good emoticon

20 pounds finally

After a poor last two weeks of February my weight loss stalled and in fact I briefly gained a couple pounds back. Today on my weigh in day I lost 2 more pounds and finally made it to the magical 20 lost. I would like to get down to 30 lost by the end of the month and with the weather turning nicer I think it is very possible. My fitness level has improved a lot and I am able to work out with higher intensity for longer so that should definetly help. Nutrition is still challenging me but I am making better choices and planning ahead although sometimes my best intentions fail. Hips and waist have each gone down in inches almost 4 on the hips and 3 on the waist. A long way to go still but I am on the right track.

Burning Calories

So on Thursday I didn't officially workout but wow raking leaves burns hella calories. I have a decent sized yard with lots of trees I am only half done with the backyard but out of the 4hours i raked I counted 2 (because of breaks) and 2 hours raking is 1128 calories guess i need to rake more often. No wonder back in the pioneer days there weren't a lot of "fatties" I guess there is something to be said for not only hard work but yardwork. I suppose back then they didn't eat a bunch of processed crap either. I think that I will try to adapt this mentality and mow my lawn a little more often, although I must remember to replace the lawn mower (stupid flood).

Speaking of the flood the house is almost done I have to work on painting it this weekend and next weekend I'm betting that burns a few calories. So I guess there is some benefit to fixing the house ourselves, although it takes more time I get the calorie burn and the satisfaction of knowing things are done right and some jackhole contractor didn't rip me off and believe me I have had issues with the ones that I have used except for my electrician he's been good to me.

    That is my secret to exercise. I spread mulch, mow the lawn, dig in the garden, trim the bushes, hand wash the car, clean out the inside of the car, scrub my floors, vacuum and move the furniture, scrub the tub, dust everything in site and wipe down walls. This is how I get 50% of my exercise for the week. I usually spend 2 hours at a time doing these things, with no break and I burn 1,200 calories. I hate to exercise. I love to walk and do lots of it, but sometimes it is too cold to get outside. Household chores have never been so fun and rewarding.

    Fantastic!!! You are accomplishing so much, you body and your house/yard are benefiting from all that hard work. We still have snow banks in our yard up here in northern Iowa. Lucky you!

More isn't always better

So after a rough final two weeks of February I am finally getting back on track. Work stress is lowered, the house is coming along great, getting along with the boyfriend, and my body doesn't feel so wasted everytime I workout (I learned a day of rest is a good thing). Tims comment about that feeling you have when you decide to say screw it really hit it on the head. When I wasn't eating right and I wasn't exercising consistently I was feeling like total dog poo laying in bed at night. I had indigestion from eating greasy bad foods, I was stressed and struggled with sleeping from my workouts being less than I had been doing. I felt plain Yucky. Now that I am back to where I was I am feeling better, sleeping better, and I don't have indigestion to the point of wanting to throw up. So now I know I want to stick to the good habits I just have to remember more isn't always better.

I really do but sometimes I sabotage myself so much I have got to get rid of this all or nothing philosophy. It seems like when I have something bad I have a tendency to say screw it and I waste the whole day. That said as of today I am on the road to recovery, although the day started bad. It started with my alarm not going off for my workout because I set it for pm instead of am. I did salvage the day by walking for 45 minutes at work and boy was that a struggle tonight but i pushed through it. I suffer from low back pain and it was nagging at me tonight. I did get it stretched out fairly well so hopefully I will have no more of that this week. My back has been hurting less since my weight loss journey began so that is good. It seems like workouts are getting back on the right track now I just have to get the nutrition to match it.

    You're getting there. Actually, you are doing great. And don't I know about saying "screw it" when there's a slip up. I couldn't help but laugh when I read that. But it's o.k. You are going to slip up from time to time. And when you do, and you say "screw it", like we all do, you know that feeling you have later that evening while laying in bed thinking, "I wished I hadn't done that". That isn't a good feeling is it? Just remember that feeling everytime you are about to give in and do something you may regret later.
I believe firmly, and I'll always back it, to have at least one cheat meal a week. It does help keep you on track the rest of the week, and it gives you something to look forward to.
