Heart of a Lion, pace of a Turtle. By the way fellow Turtles I did have a turtle charm attached to my shirt that I used to keep me motivated to keep moving.
Race start was quite hectic I was trying to find a friend that was finally got in with the pace group I figured to try to keep up with. 5:45, only problem was my nagging hamstring had different plans at mile 3.5. Yeah basically 23 miles to go and my body didn't want to play so I nursed a run walk, all the while my feet were not loving my favorite running shoes for some reason. Thankfully I had an awesome pit crew. Part of the route went by my friend's apartment where I was staying, around mile 8, I requested they get my other shoes when they met me at their next spot (shortly before the half marathon mark) I suffered through the next 4.5 miles there were a million places I wanted to give up but then I would think of all the things I was running for and keep going. There were a few tears of frustration this was definitely not how I saw things going. The shoe change at the 12.5 miles did breathe some life into me I nursed a jog walk until the next mile marker 19 miles once again a million points where I looked at the aid station and runner drop out areas, it was getting hot my muscles were not wanting to work. At 19 miles my running muscles quit so I did a speed walk for the next 6 miles with my friend beside me the one I had started a journey of walking with 2 years ago, when it was well let's just do a few laps around the mall. A little before the 25 mile mark I shooed everyone away this last mile was mine, I trotted and walked and then I turned toward the finish, WTF who puts a hill at the end of the race, I sped walked up the hill where some lady who was cheering made a very sincere plea to everyone walking by to finish strong 300m to go I could jog that to the finish and I did. Finishing in 7:09:18 not a record time but a finish my body had just gone 26.2 miles and today I sit here writing a blog a very stiff and sore girl but happy.
