Chicago Marathon wrap up!

Monday, October 11, 2010

Heart of a Lion, pace of a Turtle. By the way fellow Turtles I did have a turtle charm attached to my shirt that I used to keep me motivated to keep moving.
Race start was quite hectic I was trying to find a friend that was finally got in with the pace group I figured to try to keep up with. 5:45, only problem was my nagging hamstring had different plans at mile 3.5. Yeah basically 23 miles to go and my body didn't want to play so I nursed a run walk, all the while my feet were not loving my favorite running shoes for some reason. Thankfully I had an awesome pit crew. Part of the route went by my friend's apartment where I was staying, around mile 8, I requested they get my other shoes when they met me at their next spot (shortly before the half marathon mark) I suffered through the next 4.5 miles there were a million places I wanted to give up but then I would think of all the things I was running for and keep going. There were a few tears of frustration this was definitely not how I saw things going. The shoe change at the 12.5 miles did breathe some life into me I nursed a jog walk until the next mile marker 19 miles once again a million points where I looked at the aid station and runner drop out areas, it was getting hot my muscles were not wanting to work. At 19 miles my running muscles quit so I did a speed walk for the next 6 miles with my friend beside me the one I had started a journey of walking with 2 years ago, when it was well let's just do a few laps around the mall. A little before the 25 mile mark I shooed everyone away this last mile was mine, I trotted and walked and then I turned toward the finish, WTF who puts a hill at the end of the race, I sped walked up the hill where some lady who was cheering made a very sincere plea to everyone walking by to finish strong 300m to go I could jog that to the finish and I did. Finishing in 7:09:18 not a record time but a finish my body had just gone 26.2 miles and today I sit here writing a blog a very stiff and sore girl but happy.

I sped walked the Disney marathon and did it in 7 hours. It's a long time to be out there, so I feel your pain. But it's done and one for your record books.

Lessons learned from marathon training.

Lessons Learned Marathon Training
1. Body Glide is not used for what you might think
2. Spandex while not flattering is a must.
3. Corn on the cob is delicious but not a good idea the night before a long run
4. Tissue should always be taken on a long run (see above)
5. You will pay $10 for socks, a pair not a package
6. Similarly $20 black underwear that you will not get laid in
7. You will do things like LSD, get a high and hit the wall (sounds like one helluva Friday night)
8. No matter how well you plan Mother nature is out to screw with you
9. However slow you might finish a distance over 5 miles people will respect you, anything over 10 they know you’re crazy and offer to buy you a car
10. You have to finish the marathon or else you just paid $135 on a t-shirt to go with your $20 underwear and your $10 socks!!!

That is so funny and I am sure so true, even though I have never trained for a marathon.

60lbs yes really

Thursday, September 30, 2010

I have lost 60, I have 60 to go and yes that is a fact. I don't know why people act like I am anorexic when I tell them that is what I have left to go. I am 5'8" currently about 245 so yes 60lbs, this is not anorexic especially considering that I am supposed to weigh 154. After the marathon on the 10th I will be focusing on this goal. I am also going to take the test to get my personal training certification. I was hoping to be at my goal weight by my birthday which is in 8 days but that isn't gonna happen hopefully early 2011 I will reach this goal. I am ready to run this marathon I am ready to get it over with it has been kinda stressing me out, I am so afraid of not finishing I know that elite people drop out but that is not the point! I will not give up though I have a lot to run for. Weather is nice the yard needs some work I'm done playing on the computer.

Congratulations on losing 60 lbs! Like Joy said, that really is no easy feat! I'm around the same weight as you (only a couple pounds difference) and 2" shorter, so I'm guessing we have about the same goals. It's nice to see that you've gotten halfway already. I just started and I have 86 lbs to lose. I hope I'm as successful about it as you are!

Way to go with the 60 pounds lost! - Good luck on your run. If you were strong enough to get the weight off you can run the marathon! Good luck

People don't pay your bill or live your life. Just remind yourself that you're doing this for YOU and no one else should have a say.

AND---Congrats on the 60lbs, that is no easy feat!

Turtle Nation--Never ever give up

Thursday, September 23, 2010

Surrender is not an option, I am nervous as hell for my upcoming marathon I have a permanent lump in my throat right now. 26.2 miles how the hell am I gonna run that?! My job has made my training a pain, my life has gotten in the way I have an 18+2 miler under my belt and nothing more but I do have a stubborn will, I have a mentality to keep going, I am running for my turtles, I am running for my friend who is fighting a pain in the butt disease, I am running for every fat kid who looks in the mirror and wonders what the other side of things is like, I am running for those whose marathon is a mile or 2 miles. I will run for battle buddies who can no longer run, I will run for me because I want to wear that brand 26.2!!!
