My job is burning me out!

Thursday, August 12, 2010

This week has been a week out of the ordinary at work. We are having NRC evaluated force on force at work and my crew is the on duty crew not the drill crew. So we got stuck working4 12 hour nights in a row. Last night one of the drills was taking longer than normal so they had a continuation today now I am working Friday too! It has kind of sucked the life out of me 5-12 hour days is not what I was looking forward to. We get 12 hours extra vacation time but not until next year. My workouts have been paying the price for these extra days work. Long runs obviously are a bit of a time committment and combo the long work week with the heat and humidity and Kara is not getting the workouts done that I would like to. The good news is Saturday is supposed to cool off and Sunday too. So that 20 miler is gonna get done come hell or high water (and Cedar Rapids people know that we don't need a repeat of high water so bring on hell- crap been there too, well Iraq that is!) Guess I have had both so what is a 20 miler!

I hate it when work interferes with training. Put that pent up frustration to work and run one he** of a 20 miler.

    I know your pain.
I work at Hanford on rotating 12 hour shifts.
Tonight is my last night and back on days Monday.
We also have drills but right now.
The 12s alone wear you out!!

A little something everyday

Wednesday, August 11, 2010

Today was one of those days I got off work knew I had to get right to sleep because I had to wait for the cable guy to come fix my internet. I planned no workout for the day, but since the cable guy showed up early and was out of my hair quickly I made use of the time I had. I got on the stationary bike and did 30 minutes of biking and did arm strength training while biking in order to increase the burn factor and get some strength training of course. Then I finished it up with some ab exercises and then off to work for me. Night 3 of 4...I am so ready for my weekend off (fri, sat, and sun). These long stretches of work make me have to shuffle my workout plan more than I care too. I normally work a 3-2-2-3 so it can be a pain to schedule workouts as is but even more to have to adjust them. I have managed to fit something in everyday so far but not as much as I would like, can't wait to get my treadmill it will make some of the morning or evening workout decisions easier because now I can workout anytime!

Getting a dreadmill

Tuesday, August 10, 2010

Buying a really nice one this weekend a friend of my got one that she never uses, guess who is gonna own it!! After this afternoon's 2 mile run where I was stroking out I am happy to say I will no longer have to cut runs short due to this pain in the butt weather pattern of thunderstorms in the am and the killer heat and humidity immediately following. It has been killing my training and my motivation. There are 2 months exactly until Chicago marathon, I can't afford to skimp on the training because of the weather but I definitely cannot have heat stroke either! Happy sparking all!

I love my treadmill - I wouldn't be where I am without having that option available 24/7 (I hear you on the humidity, it's brutal here in Jacksonville!). One of the very, very best purchases I've ever made. I hope you get a lot of yours! :D

I'm back

Tuesday, August 10, 2010

I know it was a short break, but I couldn't truly stay away, I got the breather that I needed though. Tweaked my back a couple days ago better now but I have been off from running for a week, so I hope I can get back into it full force! I need to get back to a strength training program I have been lacking in that lately. I am ready to put the energy back into spark and my training and push on through to October!

Of course, this am, I'm sitting here like a slug - I know I should get up and go out, but I'm tired and feeling my age :) but you may have given me the umph I needed to get off my ...couch :-)

Some days a small break is all we really need, but giving ourselves permission to take a break sometimes makes all the difference in the world to keeping going! There is the Especially for You Breast Cancer 5K in October. I usually walk it... was hoping to walk/jog it this year (Since I am not the rock star runner you are) but my MIL who normally does it w/me may still have a cast on her foot then... will have to see.

Have a great Tuesday and rest of the week!

Lost Steam

Wednesday, August 04, 2010

This pertains solely to sparkpeople right now. I just don't have a lot of energy for doing things on spark right now think I need a bit of a break, not stopping altogether but just gonna do the basic log in and punch in fitness minutes. I just feel like I haven't been putting the motivation in lately, I feel dry and lifeless right now. I am going to step back for awhile and come back with a fresh outlook, so while I may not be as active for a bit I will still be checking in but there will be less posts and few blogs for a bit.

Of course selfishly, I am sad - I so love the back & forth comments and I love your blogs... but I understand and truly want you to do what is best for you!

In the meantime, thank you so much for all you have given, especially to me! You have been such an incredible inspiration to me and such an encourager - You know I will be waiting and ready for the return of my superhero!

It is understandable, I have a busy life sometimes making it here to do everything becomes stressful for me and that just isn't what sparkpeople is about. If I can do what I need to do without visiting the website then that is just how it needs to be. I know I have been doing the right things for me and that is what is important. Do what you need to do, we understand!

Maybe you need to go deeper than what the "Spark" provides.
Its understandable. It is far from fulfilling. Go forth but do it with intensity.

Part of learning how to live a new lifestyle is recognizing when it's time for a break, no matter what the activity is. We'll still be here ... perhaps on a mini-break ourselves ... and still supporting you in spirit. I have a little secret goal to 'catch-up' to you and come run a race in CF sometime in the next couple of years ... take care!

I feel the same way and have been for a while now. I think I need to recharge too, but if I stop altogether I'm afraid I'll never come back, so I've been trying to respond to blogs, log my fitness and food (most of the time).

Re-energize!
