Gotta get moving

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

This week is hectic getting the finishing touches done for the party got the supplies lawn is finally mowed since it has stopped raining for a change, haven't gotten a workout in since Monday though and it is making me a little crazy. I need to workout it keeps me sane. Gonna hit a long run first thing in the morning when I am done with work, no excuses, all other party things can wait until Friday, my cousin will be coming over to help me that day so I should get everything pulled together in time. Got a 5k race on Saturday morning before the party some family and friends are running it with me. The 27th is the Sturgis Falls Half Marathon. Helped my Dad with his roof yesterday and I am so sore today used some muscles that I had forgot about.

Working out tends to keep me "normal," too, however I think my normal is most people's insane.

Have fun at the 5K!

Busy weekend, finally catching up!

Monday, June 14, 2010

Weekend at work kept me from doing much of anything else. Got a 2 mile run in on Saturday and 4 miles in on Sunday had to postpone my long run because I just didn't have the energy to commit to it and didn't want it to be a negative effort! Got to get ready for my house warming block party (return from the flood) the house needs loads of cleaning and gotta get the menu all together and make sure the grill has enough fuel! Busy week ahead!

Quick update

Saturday, June 12, 2010

Blogs will be short this weekend, I have to do them at home instead of at work. I was really cooped up last night at work stuck in a room the size of a hamster cage for 12 hours, so I really need to get a good workout in today. My allergies have been through the roof the past couple days. Yesterday I had a shin that was bothering me so instead of my run I cross trained on the bike, don't want to let a little ache turn into a real pain, although it is hard I wanna run through it but Chicago is the main goal and I have the other half so I hope I can nurse it through until then may just have been one of those for no reason aches too who knows. For now that is all hopefully I will get a chance to log in on Sunday and put a good weekend report out!

Good job to do cross-training! It sure does help especially when you have an ache or pain. Let's nurse that and keep our sights set on Chicago! Have a great weekend!

The strangest thing happened while running today...

Wednesday, June 09, 2010

well yesterday by the time I am getting around to writing this geez who thinks that you have to come to work and work, don't they know it's my sparkpeople time. Anyway goofiness aside, today I went for one of my normal easy training runs one that is just a time duration not a distance goal. I was running pretty well and thinking about all the reasons why I run: stress relief, health benefits, for those that can't run (ie my mom's transplant donor, fellow soldiers either injured or killed) and a host of other minor reasons. I turned down the street to run by what is now my aunt and uncle's former home (flood--long story short look up Cedar Rapids floods of 08 if interested) and I see my cousin and my aunt so at this point I am at 3.5 miles and I figure I will say hi so stop the Garmin (Garmin Forerunner305 love it). Turns out they are waiting for the local news crew to film their story of how their house was torn down and they didn't get notification, thankfully I didn't get interviewed (I was a super sweaty beast at this point), but it was strange how I actually held off on my run until later than planned and then unexpectedly turned down that street at the same time they were there. After being moral support while my aunt was interviewed I finished off my run for a total of 4.22miles and it was time for work. Enjoying some Thai shrimp pizza this evening yum. I know kind of an anti climatic ending but they can't all be exciting!

I like to calls those things 'God incidences' vs. coincidences...

I am so sorry for your aunt and her family - what a shame...

...but I love that you run for your fellow soldiers that can't - ripped my heart out and make me love you even more! To me, you just epitomize what a soldier is and does... In awe, young lady, in awe!....again :)

Great timing! I remember the floods in Iowa. I had a number of friends there during that summer.

I have been hearing good things about those Garmin Forerunners. I am thinking about the FR60 myself. What do you like the most about the FR305?

My grandparents lost the house the my grandpa built when he came back from WWII...that whole situation is such a heart break. Minus the chemical burns and bumps I got on my arms from the clean up effort, there was one great thing that came out of it for me. My grandparents had always wanted me to have their old radio. It's a Zenith that my great grandmother bought when my grandpa was about 3 years old....The radio was hiding up in the attic, during the flood and was completely unharmed. The very first time we plugged it in, after warming up, it lit right up and played a really old scary version of Ava' maria....

Where am I going with this....no clue...stupid flood water.

Weekend Recap

Monday, June 07, 2010

Saturday I had yet another 5k, the initial plan was to run the 5k and then do an 8 mile cool down (ie my long run for the week was 11 miles). The scale and the tape measure had other ideas for me, as they sent me into a total meltdown for about 7 hours. Stepped on the scale and my weight was up, so I thought oh well I will take my measurements and maybe those will be okay, not so much gains there too!!! I went to my 5k and ran well, ran the whole thing non stop improved my time by 10 seconds, happy about that but still down about the whole progress of the weight loss, especially since I had planned a grilling weekend with my friend, I no longer wanted to enjoy this grill out we had planned and apparently the weather didn't overly care either. We did go to the farmers market here in town, I was rather disappointed with the veggie selection I guess early season, but otherwise it was pretty much a mini carnival with no rides, fattening food stands and trinket stands so gonna check out the Iowa City one.

After stewing on my issue of the morning for about 7 hours I finally decided I know what I need to do to fix the issue so there was no sense moping if the scale and tape measure did not want to be good friends they weren't going to be friends. Meltdown over and I did enjoy some grilling, healthy stuff of course.

Sunday, OMG I forgot to log in to spark but I was doing all healthy things that prevented my log in. Woke up to a response to one of my friends facebook posts about going for an 11 mile run, I was going to do both (5k and long run) after Saturday's weigh in and measurement. Next thing I knew I was driving an hour to Davenport (to Army drill where I said I didn't want to be ever again got my official honorable papers on Friday Lol) to run 11 miles with SFC Iverson, who has been one of my best buddies in the military and who I talked into running the Sturgis Falls half marathon with me. We finally got set out on our run at about 11 am, Ivy kept me at a little higher pace than I normally run (very good for me though because I wanna be faster) we struggled through hot both of us tired from running the previous day (she had attempted her long run the day before but was too humid), we hit 10 miles and the heat and our runs from the previous day caught up with us we called it good at 10 miles. Turtle success!

When I got back home I mowed the lawn still wanted to grill my thai chicken pizza but my body was ready to call it quits after mowing too much for the day! but overall very satisfying weekend and after my meltdown I am back stronger, the last time I had this kind of meltdown I worked my butt off and lost 20lbs in a month!

YOu are doing it girl despite that silly scale! No worries. I actually want to go to the Farmer's Market in town the next time or 2 its here. I have a reception the next one, but I hope to hit the market in the AM before I go. I like the trinket stuff :-) Just an excuse for me to shop and get some walking in :-) Sorry you didnt find as much as you wanted. Marion has one, but it is small and mostly food for sale.. home grown. I dont know when they are scheduled though, just happen to see them as I drive by sometimes. I guess Des Moines and Kansas City have big big farmers markets that are similar to carnivals... so it seems to be a trend I think! Have a great rest of the week!

See this is the crazy thing...you were disappointed in yourself and I am so impressed with yourself !!!! :) I couldn't wait to log on and tell you I (very slowly) jogged for 2 minutes...and I am dead serious... I was so stinkin' excited... well, I still am actually... then I read that you ran over 20 miles in 2 days...are you kidding me???? :-)

Seriously, you absolutely amaze me... and I'm really proud of your scale come-back...I think the scale needs a name though, don't you?? and maybe the tape measure too... I think there's a SP comic book about to be born????

and as PrincessNurse said, YOU ROCK!!!

You did a good job this weekend. Skip that scale! You know you are working hard! Congrats n improving your time. I am a beginner when it comes to running, so at this point I am trying to finish the runs outlined in my program.

What part of Iowa are you from? I was in Ames 3 years ago for the entire summer. I enjoyed my time there.

Way to come back from a disapointment! Don't let the scale get you down--you are doing awesome. Plus the dirty little secret of long distance running is that it often causes you to retain water--totally unfair, I know. WTG for turning it around and having a successful weekend--YOU ROCK!
