7 miles mental preparation

Saturday, April 03, 2010

I have a 7 mile run tomorrow in preparation I am drinking plenty of water throughout the night(I'm working lucky me). I am eating a balanced meal and keeping myself fueled for the night and mentally going through the run and prepping myself to succeed on the run. I am visualizing myself running strong and confident. I am visualizing the sights I will see on my route and how I will deal with any obstacles. I got this idea from Zen and the Art of running, I will see how this method helps me through my training run!

New plan--Incorporate it all P90x, Insanity, and Running and not burn out!

Friday, April 02, 2010

A couple weeks ago I took a break from my hectic workout schedule, I had been attempting to do P90X, Insanity, and train for the marathon all at the same time. It had left me feeling completely burned out. I still want to Incorporate all 3 but I have a lot better plan for doing so.

M,W, and F: I will do one video each day from Insanity and do the strength workouts from P90X (These are my cross training days in marathon training.) This will give me a good balance of pure strength and cardio on cross training days. I have a 4 week rotation with the phase 1 and 2 workouts for P90X followed by a week of core work from p90x (yoga, core). With Insanity I am going to go through the 60 days just with a day in between every workout, for example Monday will be fit test, Wednesday will be the plyo cc and I will continue to follow the workout calendar like that. I realized the other day that I liked the additional cardio that Insanity was giving me, this winter after running season slows down I will actually go through the program in 60 days.

T, TH, Sun: Running days these are when I will do my training runs and focus on nothing but running.

Sat: This will be a make up day or purely a rest day. I like to have it as a make up day option (although not for a missed run over 2 miles since Sunday is my long run day) because of well life we all have things that force us to miss workouts.

That being stated I am getting off the computer in order to organize my new workout schedule calendar!

That's very challenging, good luck with it. I tried doing Jillian Michaels and Jari love weights and Insanity and couldn't keep up, so I just stick with insanity and getting good results, I have one more week of Insanity. Love to see how you progress. I am thinking of doing some strength training after Insanity might get P90x

It's not doing the full program of p90x just incorporating the strength portion, I have notice a decrease in my strength since stopping the p90x and the Insanity on my cross training days is just to give me additional cardio, I just noticed that I liked the cardio I was getting with Insanity and would like to keep it in my program on some capacity I actually made the calendar out and the way I have done it, it is not overwhelming at all and then closer to the marathon I then actually focus on just the running

I'm curious - why do you need to do all three at once? I imagine that any benefit you'd get building muscle is going to be killed by the overdose of cardio. Not to mention the havoc it might cause in your running.

I'm training for a half marathon and doing P90x (slightly modified, I run on Yoga day). I only run 2X a week and do P90x 5 days a week, with one full rest day. Just doing that I'm seeing great results and not killing myself. I'm so so so scared of injuring myself before the Half Mary in May that I'm really making myself ease back - I have an overzealous personality when it comes to exercise and have been known to overdo it (including to the point of losing my period for a couple months there... eek).

I guess I'm just wondering why do all three at once?
Do you have some huge goal that you must hit really soon or there are dire consequences? --- honest question, not snark.

2 miles closer to it

Thursday, April 01, 2010

I do a jog/walk program but one of my goals is to do a continuous 2 mile jog, very much a beginner here. I can get through 6 miles doing a jog/walk I have 7 miles this weekend but I want to just be able to go for that nice 2 mile nonstop jog I came very close today and I took only a 1 minute walk break so I am right there, I am not worried about the speed of it right now just being able to do it is the goal. I think next week I will get it for sure I didn't need that walk break today mentally I just have been worrying about my foot and not hurting it but it was fine today in fact it felt really good today so I will get this I am almost at my goal. Think I would have done it today if it wasn't for the week I took off to recuperate my foot.

Better safe than sorry

Monday, March 29, 2010

Had my first real run back since my foot issue (I prefer not to call it an injury) did 4 miles nice and easy was going to do 6 but backed off because I started to feel a little tweak in my foot figured it was better not to overdo it now since the marathon is plenty far away. Part of it was the cold part of it may have been the fact that I did the stationary bike for an hour before I went out for a jog but my body had one of those days where it didn't seem to know how to jog! The first run back from an injury is always bad but good. You don't run your best maybe, you don't feel quite sure how to go, your nervous you are going to hurt yourself, so it is a huge victory just getting out the door. Overall the foot did feel good and I may have backed off prematurely but I figure better safe than sorry.

I was a total slacker yesterday

Friday, March 26, 2010

just about exercising. I got off work and I slept the sleep of ages and when my alarm went off I told it to leave me alone I want to enjoy sleeping today. I never did get to my run yesterday I guess it gives my foot one more day of rest but I would have liked to get that run in, I feel like I am letting myself down even though I apparently needed the sleep. At least the days are gone when I don't exercise and don't feel guilty about it at least I feel guilty about missing a workout. Maybe not so much guilty as disappointed that I didn't keep my schedule. Hope it doesn't affect my long run missing this run, like I said at least it gives my foot one more day...

Thank you so much. It is so hard. You put so much time and effort into working out and watching your diet that it gets frustrating. I ran across this page of yours on 1 of my favorite blogs that I follow of P90X...Erin's.

I did additional cardio with the p90x, I notice the biggest difference in the measurements and with seeing everything tighten up don't get frustrated by the lack of the scale moving. One possiblilty is to reevaluate your diet a lot of people under eat on p90x. I have seen great results with both Insanity gets you in better cardio shape!

I have a couple of questions for you...I am doing round 1 of P90X and am on day 36, I am seeing no results on the scales, none, nada, I am seeing none in my clothing either, yet I am seeing it in the mirror. I know muscle weighs more and so forth. What did you see the most results out of P90X or insanity? I am mainly just considering adding a walking/jogging of the evening possibly. What was your starting point on your journey?
