Today is Vacation Day

Still have to work but I am so using this day like I planned to. Working nights I usually waste my first day off so I took today going into my long weekend off, so that I could waste today and get stuff done on Friday instead when normally I would waste Friday. I did get a few things done but I am just enjoying relaxing, playing on the computer, eventually getting to my working out. Its the best vacation day a day just for me!

Half marathon training and P90X

The combo of the 2 is great, I have a lot of stamina from doing the p90x workouts and a solid strength base I have found that I am able to jog quite a bit already without running a bunch prior. Today I tested my cardio base I biked for an hour and jogged for 55 minutes as soon as I got off the bike (today would have been Xstretch day) I couldn't believe how comfortable I was doing it. I am well on my way to the half marathon and I know that continuing the p90x will only further my progress. I am going to have to find the right balance of nutrition once again though because I will be training that much harder. I am excited I start mini vacation tomorrow which means I'm doing a lot of stuff that needs to get done around the house before it is spring and too nice for me to care about doing it.

HELP ME! I'm addicted to exercise...

I was very tired today, its the end of my long weekend at work where I put 36 hours in in 3 days I got up with the intention of working out and then decided to take a rest day, but it has actually been a battle royale to get myself to actually take the rest day. I was lying on the couch after I had made the decision and then I was like oh I should just do a little something, but was like no I need a true rest day. Long story short it went on like this until I did finally convince myself a day off would not hurt me but would help me. Well I guess if I have to have an addiction at least its a good one.

Did some research today into my old training notebooks and files found some old measurements that should help me put my goals into perspective. Also looking for some inspiration for the running training so I'm looking through the notebook for that.

    Sometimes we all need to rest, so dont feel bad if you do take a rest day, you more than make up for it. Have a great Monday.

    I know what that feels like but rest up! u don't want to burn yourself out and get bored quickly! also your body needs to rest and regroup from the rigorous activity! keep up the good work though! x

    Good work! I'm not a big fan of rest days, either. But we do need them. Gotta repair that damage so we can come back harder, faster and stronger! WOOHOO!!

    That definitely is a good problem to have! I had the stomach bug all week and have been itching to get to the gym! Today was the 1st day I felt well enough to go (wanted to be sure I could eat since I was exercising too) I actually ran farther and faster than I normally do! But I am you realized you needed to rest too.

Spreading the spark and fitness

So I have recruited others into my insanity of doing a half marathon. I am excited plus I'll have some training partners. I really enjoy helping motivate others to get fit too, perhaps I should consider a side career? Jogged for 45 minutes yesterday, right now I am working on getting my body comfortable with the motion before I worry about distances and paces, but all of that stuff is in the back of my mind. Really wish some nicer weather would get here it would be nice not to have to worry about breaking my butt running on ice. Having a taco feed tonight at work. I brought a healthy option to share which I kept some in my lunch box, I got a couple things from the feed did have some chips with a really awesome homemade salsa. Mainly I put the things I was going to eat (stuff I brought) in my lunchbox and took the little bit of chips so I could avoid grazing and it has worked I haven't over eaten and I still have a way healthy salad for 2 am which is like 2pm for most of the world. Eating then holds me over so I don't eat when I get home right before bed. A little night shift schedule info if anyone who reads this is a night shifter I work 6p-6a I go to bed right when I get home which roughly puts me to sleep by 7a, I get up about 1 or 2 depending on the days agenda, workout, eat a little something, then off to work, once I'm here I may have a light snack early if I'm needing it, otherwise I wait until about 10 if I have had the snack usually 12. Then I eat at least one more time about 2 or 3 and I may have a snack somewher before them it depends on what the calories are that I've had for the day. This keeps the metabolism going and allows me to get to sleep! Enough rambling all the water has kicked in lol.

    "Food days" at work can be VERY dangerous, at least for me. Good job in bringing alternatives, and not grazing! That's often the worst part - all that food just sitting there, waiting to be eaten. Good for you for having the control not to nibble all night.

Destination half marathon

So I am looking at my first race being Jun 28th in my hometown of Cedar Falls, and I am hoping my sister and I will be doing one in Indianapolis on Nov. 6th So I have approximately 152-154 training days until the first one, more than ample time.

    Awesome goal! What is the 1/2 marathon for? Is it an annual race? You can do it! You are from Cedar Falls? My husband is originally from Waterloo/CF area. His mom now lives in Waverly, but works in Waterloo. I would like to at least walk 7 miles for the C/R Relay for Life this year...6/4

    I have been putting in the research time so that I don't get hurt and with 5 months to prepare I feel it is very adequate and allows for sensible training. Using a Jeff Galloway training plan I think he seems to have really practical plans. Now it is just map it out time and hope for some better Iowa weather!

    I can tell you that there is nothing like crossing the finish line of your first race. Have fun and take it easy, you don't want to hurt yourself.
