I wanna lose weight but I don't wanna change a thing!!

Tuesday, December 11, 2012

Sorry this is a vent blog. I haven't decided if I am going to deal with this or if I am just going to blow this off. A friend that I have been friends with for a long time recently was on My Fitness Pal saying I decided to track my sugar since it is a weakness. Okay cool. The next day I hate the way it decides how much sugar you can have in a day, a nutrigrain bar, a glass of OJ and a coffee with sugar and I'm over. I said okay cut the OJ in half or out. Well I need Vitamin C. My response a list of foods with more Vitamin C than OJ and I emailed her a Spark article kicking the sugar habit, today I get the response from her
"Thanks for re-sending. I've read this article and as I have said I think that while that may be what the AHA recommends, it is completely unrealistic in today's society and what goes into food in general. Unless a person such as myself is willing to make a complete diet overhaul to an extreme level, it just isn't going to happen. Not with my budget, not with the time I would have to sacrifice prepping food etc- I have very little of it as it is. I have worked hard to find and maintain a calorie intake, work/life/exercise/sleep balance that for right now is working. Compared to the junk I was eating, I have already made significant cut backs and am not feeling the cravings I was having. As I said, I tried to make a drastic cut to the sugar intake- some of which was by following the advice in the article- and I fell off the wagon. Hard. I am not willing to set myself up to fail by attempting to change a diet that is working.

While I appreciate the advice, the positive motivation and such I have enough my life that I am trying to come to terms with and overcome right now that I am willing to allow myself one vice that I at least have under control. "

This really bothered me and I'm letting it go after I blog my peace. Fine have a vice there is nothing wrong with that but don't continue to complain about the lack of time to prep food when you have the same time as everyone else. Cut veggies in front of the television. Have your vice, but don't complain about not losing weight and you don't know why. I haven't added it all up but when your daily sugar is close to a week of sugar (I would gather from the food journal). Granted not my problem eat all the sugar you want, but don't complain when you don't change anything about it!
Vent complete I feel better I'm on to worrying about my weight loss!

Lots of people want to lose weight without actually doing anything. The math is actually quite simple - calories in has to be less than calories out. Figuring out the calories is the tough part, and then, of course, managing them.

Your friend is right - it's not cheap or easy to make healthy meals from scratch. But for anybody that is truly dedicated to improving their health, it's a must-do.

You're shown your support . . . there's not much else you can do at this point.

Some people really do not want to know. They just want you to listen. We all have friends like that. I have to figure out if I can be like that...then either be their friend or have less time for them...feel ya

I have nothing against sugar and I do think you should enjoy cake at times my frustration is wanting to keep your sugar in check because it's a weakness but then eating cookies and similar foods 4 times a not gonna with

That sounds really strict. Tracking your sugar from the labels isn't as accurate as one might think. It's sugar in total...not added sugar. Like you said with the OJ...totally different sugar then what is going into your coffee. Even milk has natural sugar in it.
It would be better to track your overall carbs than your sugar.

I have found it easier to be "smart" about my carbs instead of doing no-carbs or low-carb. (Besides I love my carbohydrates.) :) So I get wheat bread, add zucchini ribbons to my spaghetti, and instead of cereal/oatmeal for breakfast everyday I rotate with eggs and wheat toast. I have half of a sandwich at lunch (one piece of bread instead of two) with extra toppings, skip the chips and get fruit, do one serving of carbs at dinner and do two servings of fruit/veggies instead. Then if I have the calories for a treat at the end of the day I will take one. Jello, fudge bar, popcorn, chocolate... Because this is a life change, not a diet. I want to be able to have a piece of cake on my birthday and not have a website make me feel bad about it.
Good for you for standing up for what you want and what is working for you. Keep it up! emoticon

yep yep yep....been there done that with some family and friends...very frustrating but honestly, frustrating for who....not us lol....it's only when the complaints start...gotta love the saying " Don't complain about the results you Don't get for the work you Didn't do!" I'm completely over it with certain people in my life...I love them to pieces BUT you are right..same 24 hours in a day...it's all about choices. If things are working for them...go for it...I'm just real quick to respond with a "Ohhh, wow" or "Mmmmm, yeah"...when the moaning and groaning starts...!!! cuz honestly, I don't wanna hear it anymore !! LOL good post, venting is theraputic!! :)

It sounds like she's not ready to make a lifestyle change. I think you did a great thing by emailing her an article about something she's having trouble with. She's just not ready to face the truth or she needs baby tiny steps to get to her goal.

Spark,MFP, Fitbit=Motivation

Tuesday, December 11, 2012

I have been noticing since I buckled down and made the changes that my success increases with my activity on these sites and the use of these tools. During the summer while I stay active and usually lose some weight I'm not active on these things mostly because I would rather be outside than inside logging stuff. My success is good but moderate during the summer. I probably eat more but I burn off everything and then some. In the Fall there is the lag I haven't gotten back to tracking, my activity stays elevated but as the days get shorter I'm not outside as much and my weight will begin to creep up. It is then that I take notice get back to tracking and being active on the websites and this saves me through the winter months. Spring is probably a bit like Fall I will keep an eye on that, but I know next year to stave off any gain at all I will have to get right back to logging after the last triathlon of the season.

This week's weigh in

Monday, December 10, 2012

This week I will be posting my numbers on Wednesday, I find it important to weigh at the same time daily and since I work during those hours this week it will have to wait. I did get a new scale. My challenge is going well I am keeping myself much more accountable and I am back on my eating less moving more. I have been doing a lot of walking, running, doing my challenge exercises, and playing raquetball. It seems to be paying off, no matter what the scale says I feel much better than when I was down a couple weeks ago. Nutrition has been a bit of a struggle still but I am doing so much better than I was a couple weeks ago. Changing even if it is not much different than what I was doing before has really been wonderful!

    Well done, keep it up.

Remember to have to have time for you as that help keeping on track

Just one point, weighing every day you will see your weight go up one day and down the next and so on.

I had this problem last weekend when I weighed Saturday and then again on Sunday, I normally only weight once a week, just a thought

Broken scale

Wednesday, December 05, 2012

Weigh in day was Monday the only problem apparently my scale decided to die, I have tried changing the battery. I looked up a couple other things to try so hopefully I don't have to buy a new one. Measurements stayed the same so that is a good sign, but I do like to have the more immediate gratification that comes from that number on the scale. While measurements are great sometimes the time it takes to see results either direction can be too long.

It won't hurt to go without weighing for a week in fact it will level out over two weeks or so.

The tape may tell that you have lost but not always. My tape has not moved since July but I have lost 30lbs.

The trouble with scales are that they are a mind game that always puts you on on the defensive.

Good luck with out your scales.

Same thing happened to me yesterday - though I haven't tried changing the batteries yet. It wasn't weigh-in day for me (Friday), so I guess that's what I get for trying to get a sneak peek. Don't let the scale get you down though! Keep working towards your goal.

Tomorrow is weigh in day

Sunday, December 02, 2012

I haven't been great haven't been bad in my first week of change.Monday my fitbride challenge starts on Facebook, I got together some people that want accountability like I do, I put together some mini challenges for the team. If you are on Facebook and want to join send me a private message the more spark positivity on there the better. I have been eating a lot of soup the past couple days so I am not sure what the scale will show, trying to counteract sodium with water right now. ( I make my soups lower sodium but today I had some pre made stuff). Either way tomorrow I will post my weigh in check in. Overall a decent week, I think I can do better but this was a good start.
