c25k - w5d1 - FOX alert ahh!

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

Today I had another meeting with my trainer at the gym. I got there and he had me walk a mile on the treadmill as a warm-up. Then we did an upper body workout so lots of arms, chest, shoulders, and had to do planks for the abs (ouch!) Then for a cool down he had me do 20 minutes on the elliptical. So that was a pretty good work out! I had been planning on starting my week 5 of c25k at the gym, but I was pretty tired after that and felt I had done a good workout already.

Well I got home and made dinner and Thomas (my husband) gets home and says he is going for a run. So then I start to feel guilty and decide I should do my w5d1. So I take off running as well, outside, in the 95 degree weather. Ugh. But it was going pretty good, I was just nearing the end of my first 5 minute session, when on the trail walks this HUGE red fox. I just kind of froze. I didn't know what to do. Then I stamped my foot thinking it would run away but it started walking closer! Really creeped me out, so I backed away and started running a different way. It really kind of shook me up! I mean aren't they supposed to be afraid of us? And it was enormous! So I tried to finish my run, but had to walk for about a minute during each of the last two running sessions. I just couldn't seem to get back into my groove. Needless to say, I think I will stick to running at the gym for now on. I'm sure it was probably harmless, but I didn't like it one bit!

I honestly don't know how you run outside ESPECIALLY in 95 degree southern weather!!! You are such an inspiration emoticon

Don't worry about the scale. I'm telling you, take some measurements of your thighs, stomach arms...etc. You can track them monthly under the weigh in tab. If you're doing all of this strength training and running, you're probably losing inches first. My best friend is going through the same thing. She's been working out like crazy for MONTHS and has only lost 7 pounds but has lost inches everywhere else.

It gets frustrating when the scale doesn't move but if you have an alternative way of tracking your successes, you won't get so discouraged!!
Have you talked to your trainer about it?

I have a rule of thumb with wild critters. It is: they are more afraid of you than you are of them. This has helped me deal with snakes, mice, and more!

Maybe you startled him? You are right, they usually run away from you rather quickly. I live deep in the woods and have coyotes, owls, bats, snakes, deer, etc... But that does not deter me from getting outside!

Keep up the good work and hope this helps!
Peace

C25k - W4D3

Friday, July 09, 2010

Well I finished up week 4 today. I missed a couple days running last week, so I kept into week 4 this week which is why I am a little behind. It went really good. Sometimes I wonder if I am running "fast" enough during the run times. But then I decided it doesn't really matter. At least I am running. Usually when I finish a podcast I have gone about 2.4 miles. So I guess I will try to pick up speed once I get to where I can just be running the whole time in general. Small and easy steps.

In other news, I have felt a little frustrated. I have been meeting with my trainer, doing fitness classes, and running and I GAINED weight this week. My starting weight was 163, then I went down to 161 and today when I weighed I was 165! What in the world. It has gotten me completely frustrated. But I am really trying not to let it discourage me so that I don't quit. I keep telling myself, I am getting healthier and to ignore the scale...but it is hard to do!

You are right - don't worry about the time at this point. Just worry about building your endurance! Your time actually looks fast to me. I'm a slow poke!

Keep it up!

Ouch....so sore!

Wednesday, July 07, 2010

So I had my first workout with my trainer yesterday and I am dead today! Yikes! He had me do different sets of push-ups, lunges with weights, chair dips, wall sits, bicep curls, and barbell squats. All I can say is ouch ouch ouch! I am going to a fitness class tonight so I am hoping it helps workout some of the soreness because I meet with him again tomorrow. Oh my! Hopefully this all pays off in the end!

Still a little frustrated with the scale...haven't seen a change on there. But I do feel like I am toning and my body is looking a little better. Just need to keep telling myself that so I don't get discouraged!

That's one of the reasons I'm afraid to work with a trainer. Yes, sometimes I let myself off too easy but holy smoke! I need to be able to move the next day.

Sounds like you are working really hard. Ignore that stupid scale. It's an evil tool. Never moves like it should for me either. I'm proud of you for taking care of yourself!

Keep up the great job. I have had a trainer and yes, the workouts are tough. I recall people saying..."Man, I feel sorry for you" The weight did not come off as quick, but I had seen results with the tape measure and body fat. I wish I could have a trainer again, but not today. Good luck! emoticon

Great job on the physical activity. I am so motivated by your determination!! As for the scale... you might be toning more and muscles are developing larger while fat is being burned off... and sometimes the scale doesn't change, but the measurements change. Are you also measuring and tracking on your weights and other measurements page? Either way! Keep up the great work!!

c25k - Week 4

Friday, July 02, 2010

I am finishing up week 4 of c25k today. I think I am going to go around 5:30ish when it has cooled down some outside. So far this week has gone really well. The 5 minutes are definitely a big change from the 3 minutes! But I have been getting through them okay which made me feel good. I think I am finally mastering the breathing which has been the hardest thing for me. Looking forward to finishing the week strong! I will write more after I am done!

Joining a Gym

Friday, July 02, 2010

I joined a gym last week! Yay! It makes the running so much easier doing it inside in air conditioning! I think today I might run outside just because the weather is so nice, only low 80s today, so its a gorgeous one and I want to take advantage of it!

I have been going to the gym and doing some fitness classes and doing some weights. I start working with a trainer next week, so I am really excited about that. I met with the trainer for the first time on Wednesday. I will say I was depressed because the scale at the gym definitely said I weigh more than what mine does at home. But I am going to try not to let that get me down. I sat with him for a while and told him my goals and he is going to help me get a workout plan to meet my goals. I am excited and motivated about it now! I think it will be nice to have someone who knows what they are talking about helping me through this!

I'm SO glad you joined a gym! It was so hard for me to think of you running "down south" in that heat!! haha
I did try to run outside last week and it was a big FAIL. It's sooooooooo much harder outside!!
Good luck with the trainer. What gym did you join?
