Winter has arrived!

Saturday, December 05, 2009

Okay, I was feeling so delighted yesterday morning when I got up and didn't have to shovel snow before heading out the door for work. By the time I got to work though, it had started snowing. I phoned my hubby at noon to see if there was a chance that he would have time to slip home and do some shoveling as it was really coming down. Thankfully he was able to go home and do a round of shoveling. By the time Shy and I got home from work, it needed doing again. By this time too the wind had really picked up, so for every shovel full you tossed, you got about half back in your face! So delightful! Thank goodness Shy was home to help out with the shoveling. We burned our calories. This morning, the wind has drifted in lots more snow, Garry has just gone out to shovel. I offered to help, but he said no, he'll do it. It's the wind that makes it so difficult. According to the weather, it will taper off today and the rest of the week will be sunny but very cold with the Arctic front that is coming. I'd rather the cold than more snow, so I'm okay with that.

Pro-D Day yesterday was good. A long 10 hour day for me, but lots of useful information was shared. We are now gearing up for our move in October 2010 to our lovely twice the size new building. This will be a very busy and exhausting next year. We have double the budget to get spent in half the usual time, a major move of our library to new facilities, and adjusting to "where is everything located now". An exciting time though to boot.

My positives:

I don't have to go anywhere today in all this snow.
Opportunity to burn some calories as the day wears on and the snow shoveling beckons.
Time today to haul the Christmas decorations out from the crawl space and make a start on decorating the inside of the house.
I'm healthy.
Phone call from Geff's wife, Sandy last night bringing me up to date on how Geff is doing.
He's been moved to a general ward now, he's bored! and he's hoping that his surgery will take place very soon. Gave Sandy news of what is happening at work, so she could keep Geff in the loop so to speak.
It's Silly Saturday, so letting my inner child out for some fun today.

Have a wonderful day, enjoy the opportunity to be your authentic self.

Hugs,
Wanda

Ah, you got the snow finally... think of it just as you are: a chance to burn calories. That's what I have to do as well. It's the only positive I can find in it! You always do a great job of finding the positives in every situation. You are an inspiration! Thank you for that.

My Favorite day of the week.

Friday, December 04, 2009

Yay, it's Friday! My favorite day of the week.

Today our library is closed to the public as we take in our annual Professional Dev. Day. Not sure what is on the agenda, as they always keep it very hush hush. Sometimes I think if they told people what all would be involved, some just might be "sick" on this day. It's always hard to find things of interest for everybody, but they do try. I get to go in about half an hour later than usual, but my day will be long as I'll end up being at work about two hours longer than usual. Not complaining though...I get paid for the time.

I woke up this morning expecting to have to shovel snow before getting out of the driveway. The weather last night said that we would be getting up to 20 cm of snow overnight. Looked out the window to see how much we did get last night....wow! NONE! We still aren't off the hook though as it was expected to be all day today also. I'm just grateful that I don't have to shovel snow this morning.

My positives:
No shovelling of snow before heading for work.
Later start time than usual.
Nice long chat with Kaeli last night on the phone.
A great Thursday being mindful and thoughtful.
Something different planned for my work day today. Shake things up a bit just for variety.
It's Fabulous Friday! oh how I love my beginning to a weekend.
Geff is out of the cardiac unit and on a general ward floor now, so we can go and visit him.
My hubby, who so thoughtfully picked up some things at the store on his way home last evening so that I didn't have to go out again.
Life.

Thanks for stopping by, hope you are having a Fabulous Friday! If you aren't, then you need to change your choices and reactions.

Hugs,
Wanda

Almost Friday!

Thursday, December 03, 2009

Yay, tomorrow is Fabulous Friday once again! Today is the day that I also feel the effects of both of my flu shots! My right arm that I had the H1N1 shot in is rather stiff and sore to move around this morning. I will have be a bit gentler with my exercises for today.

We dropped to a balmy -19 last night, brrrrrr, it's chilly outside! Will have to definitely warm the vehicle up this morning before heading to work.
No snow to shovel though, so that is good.
Counting down the days now until Kaeli comes home. Garry and Quin are hoping to head out on the 11th to go and help her move. YAY!

My positives:
I have a warm home to live in.
Comfy warm fleece sheets to crawl into at night.
A warm vehicle that carries me to and fro for work.
Christmas parcels for out of town family have been sent.
Busy day at work again today...I love being busy as opposed to trying to find something to do.
Life in general...how blessed I am each morning as I awake.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit. Keep on moving towards your goals and you will get there.

Hugs,
Wanda

    Good morning, Wanda!

24 degrees F here in Oregon this morning, with a slim chance of snow for the weekend. I love the snow and with the holidays coming up I've got my fingers crossed for a bit of the white stuff!

Have a blessed day, positive lady! Thank you for sharing with us! emoticon

Day two of the last month of the year and I'm still on track! lol

Yesterday was a great day, I got to come home early from work so that I could stop at the health unit and get my H1N1 vaccine as well as the seasonal flu vaccine. They have opened up the vaccines now to the general public. Feeling good this monring, a bit of stiffness in the arm that got the H1N1, but other than that doing great. Even though we have passed the mid point of this wave of H1N1, I decided to get it anyway as there is a third wave expected in the next couple of months as well as the seasonal flu is now beginning to make it's appearance. Rather be safe than sorry.

I came across a very interesting website yesterday. I shared the link in the daily posts but it made such an impression on me, I thought I'd share it here too.
makesmethink.com/

Very interesting reading through all the posts. They do give you food for thought.

My positives:
I now have my vaccines.
Cooler temperatures for the next few days...but no snow forecast until later in the week.
Professional Development Day at work on Friday. We close the library for the day and have a staff day only. There are usually some great bits of information that we learn. It's also the time that we recognize co-workers for their service awardsetc. It will be a long day for me as I still need to go in early and won't get out of there until much later than usual. But hey, I get paid so why not!
I have been faithfull in doing my exercises every morning before work now for the past couple of months. It's working out much better for me to get up a bit earlier and get them done. YAY!
My life.

Thanks for stopping by, have a wonderful day. Keep positive.

Hugs,
Wanda

Dec 01 and the countdown begins!

Tuesday, December 01, 2009

Countdown to Christmas begins! Wow! I usually have my house decorated inside and the tree up by the first of December...this year is huge exception. It is on my list of "to do's" for this weekend. Normally it is not an issue, but this year due to our flooded basement in the spring, all the Christmas stuff got pushed into the crawl space under the house and now has to be hauled back out. It's a job in it's self! lol One of those jobs that no one has wanted to tackle...but now we have no choice if we want the Christmas decorations.

Update on my co-worker Geff. Geff's wife Sandy dropped in to see us yesterday and give us an update. Geff is in the hospital still and will remain there for awhile longer. He must under go triple by-pass heart surgery. Two of his vessels are about 90% blocked and one about 75% blocked. The man is very lucky that his heart attack was "mild". He is in good spirits though. The surgery was going to be today, but Geff has developed a fever and an infection which needs to be cleared up first, so surgery will hopefully take place next week. He has also developed a reaction to the nitro meds, which initiated moving him directly across from the nursing station and necessitating him remaining in the hospital until he is transferred to another hospital where the heart surgery will be performed.
Geff called us a little while after Sandy had been in...I think the guy actually misses us! lol
Anyway just to make him feel at home, we all sang for him, which gave him a chuckle and produced the following statement: "I think I'll go and hide my head now under a pillow".
Anyway, prayers would be appreciated for Geff and his family.

My Positives:
Update on Geff and talking to him on the phone. He's tired sounding, but in good spirits.
New month and soon a new Year!
Only a few more days and Kaeli will be home.
My kitchen backsplash which I'm so pleased with, and here's a couple pictures:

This is stove area

This is the finished edging.

My decorative inset tile that created a good giggle when the guys forgot to watch for the fact that "the fruit hangs downward".

I am so blessed.

Thanks for stopping by for a wee visit.
Have a wonderful day,
Hugs,
Wanda

Very nice. Thanks for the pictures. Looks like a nice spot for a little Christmas tree behind that sink there.
I'll say some prayers for Geff and his family. Rough time of year for that kind of stress.
Thank you for the wee visit.

Nancy

Wanda the backsplash looks fabulous, it all looks so very nice. Will add Geff and family to prayers, thank the Lord his body gave him a warning something wasn't right. I agree with Tina you could have been a trendsetter with up hanging fruit, lol. That was nice your group sang to Geff and lifted his spirits.

Hugs,
Shirl

    Wanda,

The backsplash looks fantastic!! You must be so pleased. Gee, the fruit must hang down?!?! You didn't want to be a trendsetter and have it going up instead? lol.

We'll continue to pray for Geff. It is a blessing when our bodies give us some warning that they need help, as in the case of his "mild" heart attack. Prayers for you also as you continue to carry extra responsibilities in his absence at work.
