Yay!, my backsplash is done! It looks fabulous. I will take some pictures and post them either later today or for sure tomorrow morning. I'm so thrilled to finally have that piece done. Just one more piece to be completed and that is the decision on the pedastal type columun for under the island table part. Right now it is only a temporary piece of wood holding things up. Josh is emailing me some choices and once that is done and installed we are complete. I had forgotten about that part of the reno until this weekend when Josh reminded me. We've gotten so used to this temporary fix!

Garry and Q are planning on heading up Dec 11 to help Kaeli make the move back to here. Her girlfriend is going up this coming weekend to help her pack things up. We'll store all her things in the garage for a bit as Kaeli and Shy are also making the big move to a place of their own in the new year. Clients of Garry were looking for some good renters and happened to talk to Garry about it. So the girls are getting a lovely two bedroom condo with garage and parking for another vehicle as well as all appliances including washer and dryer for extremely inexpensive rent. Although they hadn't planned on moving out so soon, they know that such a deal won't happen again! Kaeli is stepping out in faith and praying for work right away so that she can make this move.
Although I won't have my girls living at home much longer, they will still be together and living about five minutes away!

My positives:
My backsplash is done and looks even better than I had imagined.
Kaeli is coming home.
A fantastic deal on a Kaeli and Shy's "first" place together.
We will be "empty nesters" for the first time...I'm trying to make this a positive! lol
Managed to purchase Q and Shy's birthday presents on the weekend. Yay, for the sales.
A short work week. Even though we still go in to work this Friday, we are closed to the publice for Professional Development Day.
Garry's Mom's birthday today...the last of the birthdays for this month! lol
My life.

Thank you for stopping by, drop by again tomorrow if you want to see pictures of the finished backsplash!

Have a wonderfully blessed Monday,
Hugs,
Wanda

Yeah for the backsplash. Will be waiting anxiously for the pics!

Sounds like the new living arrangements for the girls are just perfect! They'll be close by, but on their own - together. Awesome! God works things out and He will provide a job for Kaeli.

Have a great day!

Yay for the backsplash looking forward to seeing the pictures. That's right you have some Dec. birthdays to celebrate. Oh, that's so nice your girls will have a place together and not far from home. It takes some adjustment when they all leave the nest, but it's just another phase of life. Happy birthday to Gary's mom and Ellen who posted here. May you all have a good day.

Shirl

I'm excited!

Saturday, November 28, 2009

Yay, today is the day that my kitchen backsplash is going in. I'm so excited. My kitchen will be finished outside of a little bit of paint touch up. I'll take some pictures of the finished product and post for you all to see.

We broke a very old weather record on Thursday. We had a down pouring of rain and that hasn't happened on Nov 26 since 1946! Thankfully the roads were not too bad going in to work yesterday morning. Warm weather yesterday also helped to keep things from freezing. It supposed to be above zero today and even up to plus 7 on Sunday! Unheard of for this time of year. Dips down to below zero for Monday and then back up again above zero for the next couple of days.
I could really get used to this weather. I'd rather see rain than snow anyday!

My positives:
My work week is done.
Shy and I had a great giggle going through some old family pictures last evening.
One load of laundry is done, which means today I'll get it finished off quickly.
Backsplash is going in today.
Kaeli has been getting lots of hours these past few days. They were supposed to be home on Friday, but her time has been extended thru to Monday as of now.
God, who continues to bless this family.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit. It's Silly Saturday, enjoy the day, let your spirit play.

Have a wonderful day,
Hugs,
Wanda

Woo hoo for the backsplash, know you have been looking forward to getting that done, one more thing off your list. Thanks for keeping it so positive, you do a great job. Our temps are in the higher 40's today, it's been a beautiful day and we'll take all we can get. I got my cards made for the exchange, now need to work on ones for family and friends. You and Kaeli even found some laughter together, how neat. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Hugs,
Shirl

great on the renovations and getting alot done. Yup, it's getting colder, but not bad for this time of year in Alberta.

I like how each day you find postive things to say. It is threw the heart of gratitude after all that all our desires are answered.

keep up the good work!

Countdown to Christmas

Friday, November 27, 2009

Well that last of the major holidays has come and gone and now the countdown is on to Christmas.
28 days to Christmas....wow! this year has really flown by.

We are in major budget crunch right now at work. The chances of anything that I order right now arriving this year is getting slimmer by the day. Our major vendors are working with us and trying to get as much of our on order items shipped as possible so they arrive before December 31.
I was initially supposed to be on holidays from December 23 to Jan 11, but with Geff away, my holiday time is now up in the air. It is a waiting game at the moment. I may have to resort to going in every morning and getting things going and then taking the afternoons off, but we will see how everything plays out.

One of my Christmas gifts that I ordered arrived yesterday, so now it really is beginning to feel like Christmas. Every year I go through the same thing...I figure out what to get everyone for Christmas and then I remember that I have two birthdays also to figure into the mix. LOL Q's birthday is the 11th and Shy's is the 18th. Now I'm back to square one trying to figure out what to get them for their birthdays....you would think after all these years I would get this! lol

It's Fabulous Friday today...so enjoy the day. I understand there is something called "Black Friday" happening in the states. Not sure what it is, but hope that it is a good thing!

My positives:
It Fabulous Friday...my favorite day.
My backsplash is being installed this weekend...yay a finished kitchen is on the horizon.
Geff is doing better, although we don't know when he'll be coming back to work.
My Christmas list is being ticked off. Love all those lines drawn thru completed tasks!
Did I mention it's Fabulous Friday! lol

Have a wonderfully blessed day,

Hugs,
Wanda

Thank you for the explanation about Black Friday. It sounds very similiar to our Boxing Day sales. Boxing Day is Dec 26 and people line up for hours to be the first in the store for those drastic sales price cuts!

I totally love "Black Friday" and it seems that people either love it or hate it. I enjoy shopping and get a thrill out of getting a good deal, but that also requires knowing what a good price is and not buying stuff just because it's on sale. You'll see far more women out shopping than men. The men are usually sitting in the soft-seating areas in the mall and/or near TV's if they have been dragged to the mall by the wives. For me, it's an annual event that I look forward to. Today was fun!

Black Friday can be a good thing or a bad thing. Last year at a Walmart in New York City, I think, a security guard was trampled to death when customers stormed the store as the doors were unlocked. Black Friday is the start of the Christmas shopping and the stores made drastric cuts in the prices on some items...hoping to get people in th stores to purchase more items not on sale. It started out as the day the stores actually started making a profit for the year...hence the name..Black Friday.

From wikipedia.org: Black Friday is the Friday following Thanksgiving Day in the United States, which is the beginning of the traditional Christmas shopping season. The term dates back to at least 1966, although its usage was primarily on the East coast. The term has become more common in other parts of the country since 2000. Because Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday in November in the United States, Black Friday occurs between the 23rd and the 29th of November.

Black Friday is not an official holiday, but many employees have the day off (with the exceptions of those employed in retailing, health care, and banking), which increases the number of potential shoppers. Retailers often decorate for the Christmas and holiday season weeks beforehand. Many retailers open extremely early, with most of the retailers typically opening at 5AM or even earlier. Some of the larger retailers (depending on the location) such as Sears, Best Buy, Macy's, Toys "R" Us, and Walmart have been reported to open as early as midnight on the start of Black Friday in localized areas and remain open for 24 hours throughout the day until midnight the following Saturday. Upon opening, retailers offer doorbuster deals and loss leaders to draw people to their stores. Although Black Friday, as the first shopping day after Thanksgiving, has served as the unofficial beginning of the Christmas season at least since the start of the modern Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1924, the term "Black Friday" has been traced back only to the 1960s.

The term "Black Friday" originated in Philadelphia in reference to the heavy traffic on that day (see Origin of the name "Black Friday" below). More recently, merchants and the media have used it instead to refer to the beginning of the period in which retailers go from being in the red (i.e., posting a loss on the books) to being in the black (i.e., turning a profit).

I learned something more about it too today. Mine knowledge basically consisted of the first paragraph. Just never to old to learn...
Blessings and hugs,
Helen

BTW: I am staying home from the crowds together although my younger daughter left home at 2 am to hit the Pittsburgh, PA stores...Best Buy to save $1200+ on a refrigerator she has been wanting for over a year. She called me....she was able to get it and will pick it up next week. So now I am the proud nanna to a new stainless steel refrigerator. WOOHOO!!! lol

Back to earlier mornings for work

Thursday, November 26, 2009

I'm back to earlier mornings for work for awhile. It's not really that bad, only means going in about 30 minutes earlier than usual.

Yesterday morning when I got to work, I noticed that my co-worker (Geff) wasn't there. I was sure he had said "see you all tomorrow" when he had left work on Monday, so was a little surprised. Anyway, I rushed around getting everything up and running and ready for the day.
Got a message a bit later from Geff's wife to say that Geff had had a mild heart attack was in the hospital. Boy, talk about a shocker. Geff is a pretty healthy guy.
Talked to Sandy again last night just to see how things were going. Geff is resting comfortably now, but will be in hospital for about 4 days depending on what they find is some type of a test they are doing today. Not sure when he will be back to work at this point. Prayers for Geff's speedy recovery would be great.
Yesterday was also the anniversary of my Mom's passing, so that on top of everything else made for a struggle of a day. Today is a much better day.

My positives:
I am not a smoker, so have never had to battle that addiction.
I have the opportunity to create a healthy life for myself and thus my family.
I'm an early morning riser, so getting up abit earlier is not a problem for me.
Going in earlier means I get off work earlier too! Woo Hoo...I can come home for a nap! (Yeah, like I actually do! lol)
Wake-up calls that make all of us think about our own health.

Thank you for sharing a part of your day with me. I'll check in after work to see what you have all been up to.

Have an awesome day,
Hugs,
Wanda

We'll be praying for Geff's complete recovery. And it's good that you're feeling more comfortable with getting the computer system up every morning in his absence.

May you be comforted with special memories of your Mom. She will live forever in your heart.

Wanda - So nice reading your blog this morning.

Prayers going out for Geoff... I remember a picture of him at Halloween. How old is he?

I was reminiscing about my Mom in my Thanksgiving Blog this morning. It's hard when they are no longer here on Earth with us but they'll always be in our hearts.... until we meet again.

I hope your workday goes well. As you know, today is our day of Thanksgiving.

Love you, Marla

Hump Day!

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

Yep, it's Hump Day, otherwise known as Wednesday in the working world. Mid way point of the work week. Now we are on the downside of the working week and heading for Fabulous Friday!
Funny how we use mental strategies to get us through. I love my job and I enjoy going to work every day, but I still find myself falling into the same mind thought as my co-workers.

Nothing much to report from yesterday, it was an average wonderful day. Great weather, busy day at work, things accomplished and an all round healthy day.

My positives:
Shy got her niece's Christmas gift purchased...now she just needs to get it wrapped and then I can seal up the parcel and get it sent.
Pay day today....Yay...grocery shopping after work.
Got my walking in during breaks yesterday at work.
Accomplished everything on my list from the Tuesday's challenge except for phoning my Aunt. Will do that today.
I've been blessed with another day to be all that I know I can be.

Thanks for stopping by, have a wonderful day. Keep looking for your positives and challenging yourself to be the best you can be today.

Hugs,
Wanda
