Severe thunder storm warning!

Sunday, August 02, 2009

Last night we got hit hard by another severe thunder storm warning. This one has done even more damage than the one 2 weekends ago.
This time there have been fatalitiies. The Big Valley Jamboree that is held annual in Camrose (100 Km south of us) had about a 3 minutes warning, the huge stage was blown over, killing 1 person, critically injuring 2 and as many as 75 others injured. In Calgary, a piece of building blew off a high rise under construction and killed a 3 year old walking with her family on the sidewalk below. Spruce Grove just west of us had severe home damage and uprooted trees also. This storm had winds of 120km an hour. Thankfully we didn't sustain any damage this round, but we are under warnings again tonight. Just letting you all know, just in case we lose power and I can't get on the internet. Not to worry, as that will be the most likely scenrio...loss of power.
British Columbia ...seems like most of the province is so tinder dry that fires are the problem there. Friends have once again been evacuated from their homes, thankfully no lose of human life. Alberta seems to be having severe weather storms and Ontario seems to be having the wettest month ever and they are all experiencing flooding. Such strange weather!

My Positives:
We have finished painting the kitchen.
Garry and I had time to go scouting out light fixtures for the kitchen. Haven't purchased anything as yet...the stuff we both like is too much money...so we will keep on looking.
No damage sustained at our house by last night's storm.
Spoke with our eldest tonight...she is under severe thunderstorm warnings where she is living, so by tomorrow she may have blown to where we are! lol
Garry is already for his fishing trip up north. He leaves on Tuesday.
Long weekend...so tomorrow is a holiday! YIPPEE!
God who keeps us all in His care.

Wanda, be safe! I saw the Jamboree incident on CNN early this a.m. and wondered how close to you it was. Prayers for your safety flying your way!

August 1 A new month!

Saturday, August 01, 2009

Okay, another new month, another opportunity to move forward. The next two months are going to be very busy months for me. August will see us doing lots of painting inside the house, we still have 2 levels to go! This morning we are going to finish all the painting required in the kitchen. I have a couple of workshops to attend this month too which will be exciting but time consuming. September will see Shy and I leaving for 5 days over the long weekend and heading to BC to see Kaeli and enjoying our "girls weekend". I love the fact that my girls are just as in to dedicating time each year that the three of us get together and just spend time with each other. Then once we get home, it will be demolishe time for my old kitchen, new electrically going in, new flooring and then all new cupboards. I'm so excited!
Plus still working full-time and heading into a very busy "get those budgets spent" time at work. I have one workshop in Sept also to attend. Should be an interesting time!

Well, it's Silly Saturday...so let's share some giggles and let our inner child out to play. Life is too short to always be serious and working hard! Head on over to the daily challenges and see if you can give or get a giggle.

Have a wonderfully fabulous day, I know I'm going to....I'm choosing to make this day a wonderful one...stuff happens...and that is okay...I'm choosing to see the positives in what ever the Lord brings my way today.

PS Garry is heading out on Tuesday to go up north and do some more fishing with Q. Hope they have a wonderful Father/Son time.

July 30

Thursday, July 30, 2009

Thursday's challenge was such a good one. Our challenge today was: Today listen for sounds...and words...you normally miss or take for granted. What sounds did you discover today?

I made it a point to really listen to what others were saying at work today. Interestingly enough I found myself not focusing so much on what was being said, but the underlying sound of how it was said. There was a wonderful sound of "humor and enjoyment" in those words. Then listening to the sound of the rain this afternoon after getting home from work. Such a peaceful sound.
For me this was a wonderful challenge, thank you Mauri for issuing it.

My Positives:

Being blessed with the gift of hearing.
Soothing rain.
Opportunity to have a nap after work.
Wonderful co-workers.
Random acts of kindness to others that warmed my heart.
Mauri, Shirl and Deby for their willingness to take on some of the daily challenge tasks. It has allowed me some much needed breathing room. From the bottom of my heart...thank you.
Marla, who delights me each morning as I log on before heading out the door to work...thank you for your faithfulness.
To all the other members of this wonderful team...thank you also for participating and making this team such a warm and wonderful place to be.

Mid point thru the week

Wednesday, July 29, 2009

It's Wednesday already and hard to believe that there are only 2 days left in the month as well as the week. Where is the time flying to?

Is it just me or does time seem to be going by faster than it has before? Is it age? Is it just that we seem to live busier lives? I start my day out early, I'm up and on the go at 5 am each morning, my day at work at times seems to whiz by quickly and at other times it feels like the work day is never going to end, yet at the end of each month, I'm left trying to figure out where did it go.

I am consciously trying to slow my life down, not to get so caught up in business, to enjoy and live in moment. Some days I feel like I have succeeded, but I must admit, most of the time, I'm still shaking my head trying to figure out what day is it now!

My Positives:
Chatting with my eldest on the phone last night.
God blessing us with the funds for Garry to leave next Wednesday and go up north to spend some fishing time with Q.
Friends and family who care and support me.

Thanks for stopping by. If you haven't checked out Mauri's Wednesday Challenge yet, give it a go...she has a great challenge for us.

Choices: This week's challenge and today's Motivation challenge are as much for me as for everyone else. I needed that accountability fact, to know that I've issued a challenge and I need to participate and accomplish the goals of those challenges.

Today my biggest challenge has been to ensure that I was eating healthy. The weather is so hot that cooking a meal just felt to much. So a stop at the grocery store was a must after work. Then the choices....do I pick up something quick already cooked, do I pick up something frozen that I could just pop into the microwave, do I pick up potato salad and other possible higher calorie items or do I attempt to find something that would be healthy, cool and easy to prepare. Salad fixings it is! But instead of the usual greens and such, I opted to make a large fruit salad. Nothing like a nice cold fruit salad filled with all kinds of fruits. Not only do I get my fruits in for the day, the option for my family to add whipping cream or ice cream to theirs was available. I did buy some wonderfully fresh grown baby carrots at the farmers market, so I will have some carrots to munch on later this evening as well as for a snack tomorrow at work.
Motivation Monday's challenge saw me making the choice to get my exercise in, despite the hot weather. I've been neglecting my break time walks of late, so with the challenge in mind, I got my walking in during those two breaks in my work day. Okay, so I didn't do the dancing bit, by the time I got home from work, I was tired and hot. Not beating myself up though as I did accomplish my walking and stretching.

My positives:
Healthy fruit salad for supper.
I believe that I achieved the challenges set out for today...maybe not the dancing, but who knows the night is young and that just might happen yet before bed when it cools off somewhat!
Teammates who inspire and encourage me to be the best that I can be each and every day.
God in my life.

Thanks for stopping by, tomorrow is talking Tuesday...stop by and check out tomorrow's challenge.

Have a wonderful evening,
